The Joys of Having Grass in the MMP

My other fave from him is the lullaby! I think it’s all the more hilarious because he looks so wholesome!

It makes some of us eat the wrong crap in the wrong quantities…

Speaking of dishwashers (again…) this house didn’t have one when we moved in, but we’d fully intended to redo the kitchen, so we made provisions for one. HOWEVER, while we were overhauling the kitchen (sink was under the windows)

I had to wash dishes in the bathtub. That was a fun month… Now we have a bigger window and a dishwasher!!! And yes, we moved the doorway.

And time for a secret Mumper message:
The Eagle has landed. It must wait till the murderer is caught…

I had a stoopit awful night. I kept waking up after snippets of stoopit dreams, starting with one about a couple of guys trying to shoot a bear. Every time I woke, I’d look at the clock and get angry, especially the last time when it was just after 5. Dammit. Gonna be a long day.

Plus I have to pick up Roxy this afternoon, so FCD is going with me, and when Daughter gets home, we’re going to order pizza. I’ve got a freebie coming to me from Domino - partially free supper is good!

And so beginneth my day. Happy Thursday!

Happy St. Patrick’s day

ní féidir leat canadh le gloine folamh!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 76 and N.O.S. for the day. I have nuttin’ on the agenda for today except for general sloth and uselessness. I could do some stuff, but I don’t want to do some stuff. Sup shall be chikin nachos just cause.

wordy I am sure overlyboy will come through his surgery just fine.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Good morning everyone.

It’s about 38 degrees and we’re expecting rain showers today. The rain never really arrived yesterday, which was fine, because the husband went out and mowed the lawn. It didn’t look pristine because it was still damp, but, it doesn’t look so shaggy anymore. Also, I need a new blade for the mower. The current blade has seen better days and has never been replaced.

I’m sending very best wishes for overlyboys’s surgery today. I know things will go well.

nellie, I’m sorry to hear about the kids’ house buying woes. That is really crazy. When my husband and I bought our first home, the appraisal came in lower than the selling price. Of course, the lender wasn’t going to finance the selling price, so the owners asked for another appraisal (at their cost), and the second appraisal came in two grand higher. It was all silly, they had to agree to that, the loan had to be redone, and they were pissed. They ripped all the curtain rods out of the walls, punched a hole in a bedroom door, and left the oven coated with years of grime. It was ridiculous. I really hope things work out for the kids.

Today is my Friday and I’m happy about that. It was another long day yesterday, but I got through it.

happy st Patrick’s day ./… the day to eat chewy overly salted beef and get drunk …

Morning all. Will head off to the gym early, soccer on TV starts about 1pm, so want to get the routine in by then. Heading for 70F today, but rain returns tomorrow.

Question: do you leave your fan on your HVAC system or set it to auto? The guy who did the work on my filter said to leave the fan on all the time, it wouldn’t run that much in electricity and would spread the heat/cooling out more evenly. Looked online and it appears that there are pros and cons to either way, so my dear MMP’ers, what do you think/do?

Unknown, I think I have one of those ECON buttons. May have to push it and see if it helps.

swampy, just can’t take you out in public, can we?

OK, need to break fast and head over to the gym. All y’all take care.

Man, I really don’t need to hear about all these house selling/buying woes. I’m not sleeping all that well as it is without adding more worries about selling this place. On top of which, the cat is off her food for some reason, which is very worrisome.

The corned beef is in the slow-cooker. (If you want to make that sound like a code phrase for the French Resistance, say it once, say, ‘I repeat,’ and say it again.)

At least I slept well, for once. The secret? It was “warm” enough (above freezing, somewhere in the 40s) so I opened a buncha windows and slept in chilly, under-a-pile-of-blankets coziness.

Monkey sat sentry at the open kitchen window most of the night, and Nikki abandoned her usual spot in front of the heater vent to come and curl up with me.

… speaking of, she’s limping. I clipped her claws and checked her paws for signs of thorns, stuck rocks, what have you. Nada. She keeps this up, and I’ll have a vet visit instead of paying off utility bills. Yay.

Ours has a “Circulate” option - every 20 minutes or so, it comes on and runs for a while. I prefer that to running constantly. Had a heck of a time finding a thermostat with that option, tho.

Toby’s been a bit of a crab today - I’m trying to get him to sleep a bit longer. His morning nap was less than an hour. There’s no way to reason with a 4-month-old - they just don’t listen!!!

I have no memory of helping with the dishes as a kid, so we must have had a dishwasher by the time I was old enough. Every place I lived in as an adult had a dishwasher until I moved to Arlington (Virginia) in 2013, and the kitchen hadn’t been touched since the house was built in 1953. But I was single and lived alone, and I’ve never been a cook, so I didn’t mind hand-washing my plates and stuff. That said, I was happy a year later when the next rental – which is where I’m still living now – had a dishwasher! Sometimes I rinse/reuse my dishes, but I wind up running the dishwasher once every month or two. Usually whenever I run out of clean utensils.

I went to the office yesterday, and at the end of the day I took my small appliances to Goodwill! I got an Amazon box on Monday that wound up being exactly the right size for everything: I put the full box in the trunk of my car yesterday morning, and I went to Goodwill after work! I know y’all are probably thinking “yay…?” but it’s almost unheard of for me to do something like this so quickly: usually, I’m all about gradual stages. Normally the empty box would have hung around in another room for a couple/few weeks, then the full box would have stayed in the kitchen for a while, then everything would have sat in the trunk for a while longer. I was all proud of myself.

On the way home, I went to the grocery store. I needed more Perdue chicken nuggets, and some other stuff. I remembered almost everything (of course I didn’t make a list, so of course I forgot to buy tissues *sigh*). And I got some new Triscuits to try: I tolerate the regular/original ones very well, so I thought I’d try the thin crisps. My store only had the “parmesan garlic” and “zesty jalapeno” flavors…I got 'em both. Just 10 more calories and 1 more gram of fat than the regular Triscuits. I plan to try them both at lunch (soon).

I’ve been drinking an Ensure Max “cafe mocha” protein shake every morning since I was allowed to start having caffeine again, but sometimes I think my system might not be handling the caffeine as well as I’d like (mild tummyaches in the mornings, and worse tummyaches if I have a second one in the afternoon). I really love having a coffee-flavored protein shake for breakfast – it’s been my habit for many years, and the other flavors are too sweet for me in the mornings – but I haven’t found one that doesn’t have caffeine, so I thought maybe I’d just try a different brand. The store had Premiere Protein “cafe latte” shakes, and I drank one this morning. Bleh. :frowning: It seems to have sat a little better than the Ensure Max, but I’ll see what the next three mornings bring. I’m not sure if the taste tradeoff will be worth it. I’ll also try Fairlife “coffee” shakes: I had to order them, and they should arrive this weekend. I can live with the Ensure Max if nothing else tastes as good and sits better.

(Yes, sure, technically I could make my own caffeine-free coffee-flavored protein shakes…don’t underestimate my laziness! )

One of my friends lives on the Chesapeake, and saw the ship from his back yard! He posted this photo on Monday:

Auto. I know there’s a “fan” option, but I’ve never used it or had anyone suggest that I use it.

About 20 minutes ago, I discovered the slow-cooker was set to Warm instead of High. No wonder it’s not smelling up the house yet.

I understand now. I thought the appraisal came in higher, not lower. I think the odds are good that the lender will restructure. I’ve had it happen to me at least once. Buying a house is both tedious and tremendously stressful!

talky best wishes to overly boy today!!

swampy you little scamp, you.

Yoshi - treat falls on his feet and he can’t find it. Happy Birthday Alex Catt! :mouse2: :birthday:

Sláinte chuig na fir agus go maire na mná go deo!

(I need to go change my shirt. I forgot the day. My grandmother was Irish. Eeek.)

Taters My husband would just get the lawnmower blade sharpened. I think once a year he would run the whole machine over to the lawnmower/tractor place and get the mower it’s annual tune up and blade sharpening. At least once, he just took the blade by itself. Something to think about.

We leave it running if we’re using the system. Currently we are not. Winters here are not cold. Come Summer, we’ll be using it regularly and then the fan is on even when the A/C isn’t running. We asked our tenant to do the same, but she doesn’t like the noise, so no go. Note: it’s not loud, she’s just very particular.

cookie I think you’re selling at just the right time. You’ll be fine.

oopsie good job on the Goodwill run!

Things I need to do today: set up doctors appointments, clean litter boxes, see if I can fix Bender (our Roomba). Bender really, really wanted to go under our couch. Usually he accepts defeat and heads off to the rest of the house, but not this time. Now the motor makes noises. I think it’s damaged, but I’ll see what I can do. I’m hoping for a slipped belt.

In a bit, I’ll start a lamb stew. We’ll see how this attempt goes. I’m not very experienced with them, but I love a good Irish stew. Fingers crossed.

Now I’ll go back to my exciting life of sitting on hold.

Happy Friday Eve everyone!

OK people - what is going on? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

As I stood on the steel platform that was festooned with high voltage electric motors that is my work station, I pondered the thunderstorm outside, Gauss’ Law, and my own mortality…
But there was extra hours today, because we had to rebox our shift’s wet boxes. And midnight’s stuff. And deal with the stuff that we fixed yesterday that was still lying around. Buncha slackers around here.

They made one with a shiny metal a$$?

@overlyverbose I’m still pulling for overlyboy. I’m sure everything will go just fine and he’ll be pain free in no time at all!!!

Get a treat and an opaque plastic cup. Show Gordie the treat. Break off some of the treat and give it to him so he understands that yes, it is actually a treat. While you have his attention, put the rest of the treat on the floor and cover it with the cup. Watch the results and laugh or cry depending on your mood.

No doubt! Your kitchen is lovely and the dishwasher looks to be in the perfect place. The door of ours clears the kitchen island by 4 inches which is a bit of a pain. Still better than no dishwasher, though.

You also have to drive the speed limit which kinda sucks. Hubs is going over the mountain today and is going to try it as well. He’s better at driving the speed limit than I am so it should be easier for him.

Ouch! But, she’s an older kitty and as an older person I can tell you that some days you just wake up achy. Hopefully she was just having a bad day.

Good job! I’ll bet you have a real feeling of accomplishment, or at least you should!

Happy Birthday AlexCatt!

I’m exactly half Irish, on my father’s side, and several years ago I bought a light gray t-shirt with our last name in green over a big green shamrock. I barely remembered to put it on today. But I’m glad I did, because the other people in my 9:30am Zoom meeting got a kick out of it.

The other half is Italian.

Thank you both!

Thank you so much! We’re still waiting to hear, but last I was told they had already finished the corrective part of the surgery and were planning to stitch him up. The husband and I are both completely incapable of concentrating on anything whatsoever.

Nice ship. I like big boats and I cannot lie!

I drink regular Ensure. I like strawberry flavour. I’ve tried the high-protein strawberry stuff, but it tastes like grape-gum-flavoured plastic cigarette ashes.

Hi, everyone.

Drat, overlyverbose, I kept forgetting to send my good wishes for overlyboy!! :crossed_fingers: I’m glad the main part of the surgery has been completed with no problems!

I’m back to my normal “mostly positive” mood this week, but at the moment I am completely unmotivated. (As you may guess, since this is post #3 during the workday!) It doesn’t help that today is grey and damp and slightly chilly. My exam prep class starts in a couple of hours, and all I want to do between now and then is go take a nap with my doggy…

In case anyone is keeping track, the new thin Triscuits were both very tasty. The “zesty jalapeno” had more of a kick than I expected, which is a good thing. Both flavors go well with some tuna + light mayo. And I tolerated both of them well, so…yay! I hadn’t really had anything spicy yet, and some folks have trouble with it post-surgery. I figured a jalapeno Triscuit was probably the safest thing to try in that regard.

The regular Ensure doesn’t have enough protein for my needs (post-weight-loss-surgery). I used to have an Atkins mocha shake every morning, but those don’t have enough protein, either. These days I need at least 30g per shake, and I have to drink at least two of them each day. I have Ensure Max strawberry shakes in my fridge right now: they aren’t very strawberry-y, but they’re palatable and not too sweet. A lot of the protein shakes out there are just waaaay too sweet for my taste.

(Your description is…very descriptive. :joy: )
