The last minute MMP

I wish it were…but I have to observe for at least an hour, and it has to be more than one teen…I am dying of curiosity over here-what could she have done? I don’t know her, and I thought I knew (at least by sight) all the teens who live in the near neighborhood, so maybe she was a burglar. Who knows?

I heard something disturbing about me and mine from a neighbor today. He wasn’t the one who was spreading this, but he was asked by someone else something about me and mine. Nosy as hell. He told this person (who I have not talked to since I was in my 20s) that he didn’t know anything about what she was asking.

This person (female) goes to his church, and they were talking. She asked him just where in our town did he live. He told her. She asked if he knew me. He said, yes, that we were next-door neighbors. And the next thing out of her mouth was, “oh is she X? I heard she was X?” How she would have heard anything is beyond me, since X has never been a topic of conversation for me. (no, I’m not saying what is. None of anyone’s business, unless I make it their business). I think she was trolling for dirt. Nosey bitch.
I am sitting here kind of fuming that she was even fishing. People can be nasty, no?

I have just looked at my schedule for the past-few adn next-few days:
Sunday - Skate with the Snakes
Monday - Cottonmouths Blood Drive ( we collected 35 pints!)
Tuesday - Tip-a-Snake
Wednesday - Connors bag to office; ended up having a discussion about the BC helping to sponsor Fan Fest.
Thursday - Booster Club General Membership meeting.
Friday - lunch with the lady I catsit for.
Saturday - leave at 11am for bus trip for hockey game in Jacksonville.
Sunday - BC Executive Board members drop the puck to start the game at 4.

One day of 8 I don’t have something hockey related; and that day I will spend getting ready for the bus trip. I think I may be spending too much time on hockey…Naaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Happy Birthday to Mr. Lissar. Sorry I forgot earlier, but I’ve been scatterbrained lately.

DB - please e-mail me your address again, I lost it. I have a game-used Cottonmouths puck for you - and I can testify it is game used because it went up over the glass and landed on my foot.

I am getting back on Depo on the 20th if I have to threaten a few doctors…

Oh dear, this is what happens when you don’t check the MMP till wednesday night! I have been most neglectful :frowning:
I will admit that I haven’t read most of the thread (on my list for tomorrow :P), but I did notice some early comments on my underwear and I wanted to defend myself (now that I have an account and can do so in person). My underwear situation was never as drastic as LiLi makes it out to be, and does it really matter what state your underwear is in? - no one sees it! It did what it was designed to do - cover my ass!

Also I need to say HAPPY Mr Lissar’s BIRTHDAY everyone!

Toodles, I hope everyone had fun and interesting valentines adventures I can read about tomorrow! (My adventure was climbing through knee high drifts of snow and jumping out of the path of cars on my way to work). Oh and I made cookies - yum

Happy Mr. Lissar’s Birthday~!

I was over at a friend’s place for tea, and he asked me in very serious tones if I was dating Scottish Darling (who is my very bestest friend here, and a girl as well). I guess we do hang out a lot, but I was very amused that anyone would think we were lesbians. The thing is that he is the second person to have asked me this! I swear, they just want us to be lesbians so they can watch us make out or something.

Rigs, that sucks. Some people just take delight in minding other people’s business in a malicious way. They are sad people.

Haze --is Scottish Darling truly Scottish AND truly a Darling? Methinks you calling her Darling might have something to do with it all…just sayin’.
off to bed. I have written up part one of my Observation Exercise (and can I tell you, I observed some pretty staid and mundane teens tonight! I had to go to the local coffee shop-not a Starbucks–because the Youth Group was cancelled due to weather[what weather? it’s a clear night!])
night, all!

Driving by to say, it is amazing how much of my life depends upon the delivery of electricity to my house! We got somewhere between 1/4-1/2 inch of ice Tuesday night, every tree and bush and even blade of grass coated – I took a couple photos which I will upload later – and because of all the trees going down, our power went out Wednesday morning about 7:30.

It was at that point around freezing, and it warmed up a couple of degrees, just enough to turn a lot of the ice to slush, thank heaven, so we could clean the cars off fairly easily and they were able to get the roads clear as well. But then it got much colder and windy and everything is frozen solid again.

And we thought our house would be, too – our power didn’t come on till about 11:30 this evening, and the house had gotten down to 51° (that’s 10C) by that time! And since we have well water, we also lost water pressure so had no water, either.

It was just a lovely day, wearing as many layers of clothes as we could put on and wrapping up in blankets to stay warm. At least I got a lot of knitting done…it kept my hands warm, so I knitted furiously all day and evening!

I am very glad to have power again. And water. And WARMTH. And a working telephone – we have digital FIOS phone service with a lengthy UPS backup, but we were out long enough that the UPS died, too. Although not until beeping every 30 seconds or so for 15 minutes. Which, since it is located in Palebunny’s closet, was about to drive her mad since she was just getting ready to go to bed at that point. (The UPS kept the phone working for 12 hours, though, which is pretty good since they’d told us it was only good for 5-6 hours!)

Anyway, I am now trying to get some work done that is due tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. that I couldn’t start until nearly midnight, obviously. Wish me luck. I will come back and read the thread tomorrow, so in the meantime, hugs/ sympathy/congrats/happy birthday-anniversary-whatever to all, as appropriate.

Man, it’s nice to have a warm house again!

Rigs - she is Scottish, and we call each other pet names in faux English accents just to be silly: darling, dove, sweetpea, luv, etc. It really is all in jest, though. I tend to be very “clingy” with my friends: linking arms, hugging, resting my head on their shoulder if they’re sitting next to me. But only if they’re comfortable with it - in Korea girls do it all the time, but I’ve noticed here in the US girls seem less inclined to be like that. Scottish Darling is a lot like me, though, so I suppose it’s reasonable that some might mistake us to be dating.

To be fair to the friend that asked me if we were dating, he did see me go to Scottish Darling’s house at 2 in the morning, after getting drunk at a party. All we did was have tea, though. I was in a sorry state that weekend - it was right after my night of indiscretion - so Scottish Darling fed me tea and listened to my woes for most of that weekend, bless her.

It’s just kind of a culture shock for me. In Korea, no one would even think of the possibility that we were lesbians, because it’s so culturally taboo. (Not that I have a problem with it, but I suppose I’ve grown used to living in a culture that does.)

But Scottish Darling and I are wickedly amused by the confusion, and plan to make sure it continues.

Hazel eyes are counted as brown, in Spanish. And as we told my friend with the brown-and-green eyes “so you’re a true traitor?”

I’ve wondered for a while whether that song comes from someone who’d had bad luck with light-eyed people or from someone who was having a songfight with one.

Haze, in Spain it used to be like in Korea, pretty much. People had some notion about the existence of women who were “a bit too good friends” but it sounded totally alien. I hate how in the last 20 years we’ve gone from having “sleep with” mean zzzZZZzzz to meaning sex (Christ, if I want to say fuck I do! Even Abuelita, who was a lady, was known to use the words “breasts” “bosom” “penis” and “sex”) and how now I get dirty looks if I tap my redhead cousin on the arm to show her something. Yes, we’re different colors (she’s your typical glass-of-milk grey-eyed redhead… reds in comics always have green eyes, but I see a lot more grey ones) and we’re both moderately attractive and we just OHMYGOD touched!

Victori told us how, when she used to be in charge of international sales for a local company (late 80s), a japanese customer asked her “why are there so many lesbians in Spain?” Turns out he saw women walking arm-in-arm and thought they walked “on the other side of the street”. What left her completely amazed, though, is that she later got the same from other guys from other countries.

Affection shouldn’t be anywhere near as complicated as we make it.

Poor little Shadow had to go to the vet last night to have his second round of vaccinations and to have his stitches out. One of the vets was out on an emergency call and that meant only one vet working at the surgery so we had to wait over an hour until he got seen. Poor mite was very unhappy having to sit in his box for such a long time but he was well rewarded when he got home.

I got a surprise too when 'im indoors turned up on the doorstep with two bouquets of flowers for me! He wasn’t supposed to be home until tomorrow but he’d decided to come back last night and surprise me. And surprised I was. Am still all chuffed today.

sending good vibes to olives, who has a Stats test today (one of my best grades in college, I got an A even though I took the test with a 38C fever and my thesis was on stats)

Uhm… sending good vibes to all those schoolpeople we have

Taters that’s awful. Both what the job’s doin’ to ya and how you found out. Here’s hopin’ everything works out ok for ya. I just don’t know what else to say.

Rigs some people’s lives are so uninteresting they have to make up stuff about other people. Just ignore her. She ain’t worth it. Besides you’re a cool kid. She’s just jealous of that. So, There nosy woman! :stuck_out_tongue:

Tigs yikes about the power. Glad it’s back on. Hope you didn’t stay up too late working.

I have a job interview at nine this morning so I am caffienating up and goin’ a little nuts. That’s ok. It’s usual for me to do stuff like that. I’ll be all calm and collected by interview time. I do all my nuttin’ up prior to so it’ll be all out of my system.

Everybody else, hi, bye, hope everything’s ok.

Just remember that you’re omnivorous but not supposed to eat the interviewer. At least not until the interview is over, ok?

Unless he finds the interviewer cute?

Mornin’, y’all. Not much today… I was late for work because of a wreck within the last 5 miles to the office, and there’s not many ways off the interstate in that area.

I buried a road-kill cat yesterday, and it wasn’t one of mine. At first glance it resembled Booger, so I made sure he was safe inside.

Tonight is another EMT class, and I have a test. Yes, I studied…

MT stayed up WAAAAAAAAAAY too late working. 4:30 late. So it’s me and the pups right now. I was going to come in here and complain about having no power yesterday but I see I was beat to it. Yes, I haven’t posted, but I have lurked.

I forget how I rely on electricity until it’s gone. And the house getting cold wasn’t the most annoyinging part, it was that almost everything I could think of to do involved power! Though a house should simply not get that chilly. Ever.

Oh, I took that possibility into consideration. Still would be unprofessional to do it during the interview, though.

Being without power for a day or so is annoying to say the least. But I remember the Great Ice Storm of ‘73. Everything was encased in thick ice - including the power lines, many of which had fallen to the ground from the weight. We had a gas stove so Mom took everything out of the freezer and fridge and made a huge vat of soup which we ate for lunch and dinner. We used Hanukkah candles for light when we ran out of the regular kind. We all, including the cat, slept, fully clothed, in my parents’ bed. We lived like this for a week until the power came back on. Since it happened about a week before Christmas break, school stayed closed. I wish I’d had a decent camera back then. There were some beautiful scenes. Treacherous, but beautiful.

Thanks, guys. I spent some time this morning thinking about what I would say to this woman, but the weird thing is–I never see her (she’s the mother of someone I graduated HS with). I am NOT friends with her or her daughter; this woman knew my parents back when the daughter and I were in…Girl Scouts, 35 years ago. Old people.

Off to be shelf serf, after I flat-iron my hair. I woke up looking like Buckwheat or Don King. Horrors!

Daughter and #1 son have late start this morning…they don’t go in until 10. #1 son read the news last night on the air at the HS radio station, but I tuned in too late. :frowning:

Bobbio, you have a cat named Booger?

I guess I’m not easy to surprise, if that’s the most surprising thing I could find to comment on.

Why, yes I do. He earned it.

I’m really glad you’ve got power again, MamaTigs. Yikes.

How are you feeling, rosie?

Taters, that bites. Ugh. Who the hell would think that was in any way good?

QD, are you here on Saturday? When’s the BNL concert?
Today is my last full day with Neurotic Co-Worker, and I’m working 12-8 so the second half with be with Driving Husband and a very nice New Guy. I’m going to declare rebellion as soon as Neurotic Co-Worker goes home, and sulk until it’s time for me to leave.
