The Last of Us - tv show discussion

It definitely took too long between when they showed the zombie waking up and anything happened, and actually not long enough after the action.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the zombie wake up, I told my wife: They’re gonna kiss, Ellie’s gonna get bit and then the friend is gonna die/get bit too. Then it was just a matter of waiting a little too long for all that to unfold.

I need to go back and watch episode 2 again, just as a sanity check. I watched the first two episodes before my wife decided she wanted to see the show and I started over.

In episode 2, as Joel, Tess and Ellie were walking down the road with all the abandoned cars (IIRC) Tess asks Ellie how she got bit, and she says that she and her friend Riley had gone to the abandoned mall. But I swear when I saw it the second time, Ellie said she was alone. I even remember thinking “that’s weird, that’s not what she said the first time.” I’m sure I misheard something the second time but now it’s really bugging me.

I don’t remember her mentioning Riley at all.

This is just perfectly accurate.

…nah.

No, she said she was alone. Tess seemed impressed she would go alone. You misheard the first time.

Mandela effect, you think?

Episode 8 is a good course correction for those who found the previous episode a little slow and boring. Creepy, suspenseful, and absolutely brutal. Ellie almost had me fooled too. “Come on, no way would she be this gullible.”

Excellent episode. Only one to go.

I don’t want to add spoilers for a show that dropped tonight so I’ll leave it at that.

I like the way she had to fend for herself rather than be rescued by the big strong man. It’s great when characters have agency, particularly female characters. This episode was awesome.

Really good episode. I am sure everyone knew what was on the menu from the first scene but it didn’t matter. The cult leader was very well played. He hid his awful just enough in the beginning.

“On the menu.” Nice! They talk about the cult leader quite a bit in the HBO follow up podcast. It’s hosted by Troy Baker—the original Joel (who was also on tonight’s episode).

Entertaining show, I watch every week, but it still is not breaking new ground. Shades of the Termites last night!

Slate has an analysis of last night’s episode as the culmination of the theme that love is scary, in opposition to David’s statement to Ellie that there’s no fear in love.” The divide on the show isn’t between good and evil, but between people who can still love, and those who can’t.

Man, Ellie is such a badass. She’s absolutely brutal. And Bella Thorne is just perfect.

One thing that bugged me about this episode was how gross the meat looked - like it was still raw. It should have looked like any other cooked meat.

*Bella Ramsey, not Thorne.

I’m pretty sure it was raw. What you should be complaining about was them just dumping raw meat into an already-cooking soup/stew. No wonder these people are starving; they don’t know even the most basic things about food!

Plus, we should also complain about the obvious, “It’s…>dramatic pause< venison.” Note for future Armageddons: If anyone pauses like that before telling you it’s a perfectly normal type of meat (and not a cat, or something), you’re eating people.

They showed it raw, but then later it looked pretty much the same when it was dished out.
