Agreed. It’s my understanding that some episodes are a fair amount longer than an hour too. And the story beats seem to really fit with one season and not two.
I’m not familiar with the second game so no comment there.

Ideally they have the arc planned out without any thought to dragging it out or extending past the established story.
Another good episode. Sort of filler, but the performances are good, the set design is good, I felt appropriate dread and disgust.
Saw lots of my hometown Edmonton in tonight’s episode! Way cool! Good tension buildup and we finally got to see the mushroom-people up close. Pretty creepy.
Love the actors. Anna Torv delivered.
Not as good as episode 1 but still very good. There needs to be some world building and this did that. Makes it a bit less engaging but they still did it.
So far a great show IMO.
I’m not sure I’d call it filler when we got our first real introduction to the monsters, we got a couple action set pieces and one of the main characters dies. Another great episode imo, and I hope we get more flashbacks.
Yeah, the Lege played a big part.
I’m really waiting for my office to show up- 104th Street NW at 102 Ave. They were setting up there for about two weeks, and our IT guys set up webcams so we could watch them. It might be hard to spot, though, since they are putting in a lot of CG changes on the background shots.
By filler I mean the thrust hasn’t changed. End of ep1 is taking Ellie west. End of ep2 is taking Ellie west. That the filler was cool doesn’t change that, imo.
I haven’t played the games, but it seems to me that the entire season will be about taking Ellie west. Does that mean the it’ll all be filler?
… that would be spoilery for them what ain’t played.
My point is that the quest/road trip is a perfect legitimate story structure.
I mean, it wasn’t 100% filler. Tess dying wasn’t filler.
Did I say it’s not legitimate?
I mean, calling something filler is somewhat derogatory, as if you’re saying that it’s less important than the “real” story. Is the Odyssey mostly filler? Is the Lord of the Rings? IMHO, in the quest/road trip genre, what happens to the characters along the way is the story, while the main “thrust” is just the framework.
I’d be surprised if they get where they are supposed to go before the last episode.
Makes sense since I didn’t see a lot of Boston in last night’s episode (other than something that was supposed to represent Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Old State House, and the gold-domed State House). Tt was hard to really get a sense of geography since Boston isn’t that large of a city and has a lot of rivers and inlets around it. Like if all those landmarks are outside the Quarantine Zone, where is the QZ supposed to be? The North End maybe?
I believe it is supposed to be the North End.
Life is filler. If you think about it.
I never really appreciated how important backgrounds are before this.
Pretty cool! Fingers crossed.
I walked by there just last Saturday night. I was in town for a conference, and found a few minutes to just go for a walk, like I might at home. I must say, 104th Street looked great with all the trees lit up, and the Neon Museum up near Rogers Place.
Anyway, all the Edmontonians at the conference were talking about the show, the locations, and what they recognized. This show sounds like something I might like, even if it is only to recognize some familiar places in Edmonton. (Note that I did live there for a few years while attending the University of Alberta, so the city is not totally unfamiliar to me.)
