The Latest in the Tiger Woods Saga: Another Car Crash

Anyhow - given Woods’ track record in recent years he really needs to stop driving, either until he gets his problems straightened out or just stop driving a car.

Indeed. Given that the car crash he was in, in 2021, in which he was driving recklessly, nearly cost him his leg, one would think that a smart person would have learned from that.

It’s possible he’s given up alcohol … but that doesn’t rule out some other substance and/or just being reckless.

Oh, man, she’s as orange as her ex-FIL.

Overtaking another vehicle on a two-lane road and touching it, leading to a crash, is reckless driving, impaired or not.

It all depends on the jurisdiction. In the province of Quebec, which is incredibly restrictive about name changes, a married woman cannot change her name to her husband’s surname. In their view, this is not only consistent with their restrictive stance on name changes, it’s also forward-thinking anti-misogyny.

Again, dependent on jurisdiction. Sometimes it’s just a matter of an application – certainly, an application that has to be notarized, witnessed, and all that other good stuff, but not necessarily an appearance in front of a judge.

Trump did express concern for Tiger on TS but it’s not true he called for the governor to pardon him.

Heck, with the law Trump is trying to get passed it might be smart to always keep your maiden name.

Yeah, that part turned out to be fake.

Trump genuinely posts such crazy shit, that the pardon thing looked on-brand.

Since I’m already certain there will be no serious repercussions (I was faced with a traffic misdemeanor once, I didn’t get hit… TOO hard, and he has ten thousand times as much money and clout as I’ll ever have), I’d like to ask a simple question: What exactly is there that he can compete in? I don’t mean fun unofficial stuff like The Golf League (which is his own creation, so obviously he can compete there as much as wants), I mean the actual Tours.

The PGA is a high-stakes cutthroat league which ruthlessly excises anyone who doesn’t meet its standards. Has-beens get no slack. Basically, if he goes five years without winning something big or one year without winning something else, he has to get results every year or he’s back to square one. (There are backdoor ways in like sponsor’s exemptions, but if he’s not making the cut, they won’t last long.) I don’t know how it works on the Champions Tour, but I’m fairly certain taking very long breaks isn’t an option.

He’ll be allowed to be a continuous presence in events like The Open Championship and The Masters (short of an outright felony conviction, I don’t see Augusta National ever shutting him out). But that raises another question: Will he be content to be a four-tournaments-a-year guy, especially if he’s never in contention in any of them? I’d think that after a couple years or so it’d be just too damn depressing.

The Masters gives past winners a lifetime exemption, but you’re right that it’s only 5 years for the other Majors.

To your larger point, yeah, he’s done with competition. Every attempt he’s made in the past few years has been thwarted by injuries. He’s not going to miraculously heal.

Perhaps. Even if he’s not playing well anymore, he is still a huge draw. And if that sponsor’s exemption also means that Woods spends a few hours in the evening doing a meet-and-greet at the sponsor’s tent, he may well get those exemptions for as long as he can pull himself through the Thursday and Friday rounds.

So many obvious golf jokes here…
