The Mandalorian Season 3 [Open Spoilers]

from wookieepedia:

A Mandalorian covert was hidden in the sewers of Nevarro by the time of the New Republic. The covert was operated by the Tribe. It was a place where Mandalorians could remain in secret, and preserve their creed and way of life.[2] According to Paz Vizsla, the Tribe were only allowed out of the enclave one at a time.[3]

We loved the first episode! It was a good mix of action and comedy. The three-way conversation was hilarious, maybe because I’ve been in each position myself. And the “let’s fuck around with the assassin bot and find things out!” was a good mix of pathos and comedy. I hope this season keeps this tone.

My only complaint, which is minor, is that they packed too much into the episode. I’d rather have had a “new covert” episode where it makes clear how shunned he is. And then another episode where he helps his old associate with pirates. And one for Bo Kotan.

Good to know, thank you.

The original Falcon toy was 17 inches long. More recently they made one that was closer to the right scale that was 32 inches long.

Beskar Mitzvah.

More accurate than you may think.

I found the mythology of the “Mandalore,” to be parallel to Judaism, if not identical in structure to the historical origins of Judaism. For those who haven’t yet watched this show, there are spoilers below, so proceed at your own caution.

That’s a really thorough review. Thanks for sharing!

Same here.

But in thinking about it, this whole segment kind of shows how Mando is actually doing much better than the rest of the Mandalorians who are part of his sect.

I mean, they had a couple of dozen of them, with a large variety of weapons, trying to kill the Space Alligator and having essentially no effect at all, until Mando show up in his new ship and blows the SA away. He had the tools to do the job specifically because he hasn’t spent years hiding away in a sewer in order to avoid being seen by non-Mandalorians. It kind of highlights why the extremist sect is ultimately going to fail. Sure, you can talk tough about shit, but if you never leave the “covert” and get your hands dirty, it’s all just talk.

It will be interesting to see if Mando realizes that.

Plus, you know, having to settle for a world infested with giant space alligators in the first place. That doesn’t exactly make for prime beachfront real estate.

I mean, his entire tribe save for two other people got slaughtered to the last man by stormtroopers. Not special forces or killer droids or anything - the regular guys in white armor who can’t hit the broad side of a Corellian spice freighter.

I think that was intentional. That kid even looked like a young Pedro Pascal

Well, it really wasn’t much of an arc, more like a short hop and skip. Sort of felt like a different creative team had taken over, quickly closed out the opened plot threads in favor of starting over… Or did I miss something? The whole IG-11 thing was completely handwaved away, then the weirdly paced bit where Grogu flew to get Bo Katan that was basically a montage sequence, which just felt shoehorned in to get her where the plot needed her, when she could’ve just gone along in the first place…

Or are we just going to keep that pace? Will next episode see the killing/taming of the mythosaur after Bo shows Din how to properly use the darksaber, with the two of them then going on to reunite the clans of Mandalore (episode 4)?

I don’t think the arc is about getting absolved at all, but in realizing that the sect is bullshit and its perfectly ok to take your hat off. I imagine getting constantly saved by Starbuck might help.

That was… not good. The dialog felt almost like it was intentionally stilted - not only do people not speak that way, people in Star Wars don’t speak that way, either. It was very strange, as was the pacing and direction. It felt weirdly padded. Why did they have three separate scenes of people entering the same cave? First Mando and the droid, then Mando and Grogu, then Grogu and Bo-Katan. You don’t do that.

I watched the new episode of Bad Batch right afterwards, and I was struck by how much better the so-called kids’ cartoon was, in terms of writing, direction and characterization. It really was no comparison.

Just watched that Bad Batch ep and well that episode is a pretty high bar.

But yeah to the comments about this season of Mando and this ep in particular. No cohesiveness and worst of all, no fun.

Even though I knew there would be jump scares, I still jumped. I thought it was a good episode. Grogu is starting to feel more secure and growing up nicely.

That was…awful. No other way to put it. It’s like someone deep inside Disney made a bet “You think Mando is going to save the SW Universe? Hold my fucking beer.” and then got tapped to write and direct this episode. Favreau better have a few aces up his sleeves.

Especially after Andor, this just really came across as trite and formulaic.

I liked everything else, but I agree that this part was weird. I am not sure why they thought that was a good way to do it.

Mando stepping into the water and sinking like a stone was pretty funny though.

I also watched The Bad Batch before this and that was indeed a good episode.

So that’s why I was so confused during the first episode!

I’ve only watched The Mandalorian, none of the other TV shows, and I thought I remembered the very end of last season being Grogu taken away. I didn’t know how all of a sudden he was back on the show with no explanation!
