The Mandalorian series on Disney+ (spoilers as it airs)

So one more episode left for season 1?
Wonder if season 2 will be ready by next fall?

I hope so. I think a quick turn around would be beneficial. What upcoming Disney+ originals do we even have coming?

The key to this joke is how they wrote him a typical Werner Herzog nihilistic(?) monologue leading it.

Something like, “When I look around…and I see what has arisen after the fall of the Empire…all I see is death and chaos.”

:beat:

“I want to see the baby.”
Herzog had to love this joke and we all get a great moment.

And for those who remember the toys, this is the live action debut of the Imperial Troop Transport. Could the Mini Rigs be far behind?

It’s not Dark Side, it’s a baby. It thought Mando was in danger and tried to protect him, not realizing it could’ve killed Cara in doing so. That’s how I read the scene, anyway.

I don’t get it.

Werner Herzog plays the guy who hired Mandalorian. He is actually a director, only acting once in a blue moon. He is known for narrating his documentaries and sometimes going on long(ish) monologues about the hopelessness and chaos of the world and universe. The coldness of nature and so forth. He has a very distinct style.

Listen to a famous one from Grizzly Man. Really watch the whole clip and you will kind of get his vibe.

The show made a joke by kind of leading him down that kind of path and then having him say, “I want to see the baby,” which is kind of a funny thing to hear Herzog say.

I vote for the Cap-2. It was one of my favorite toys.

Here’s the announced 2020 series (in addition to the on-going High School Musical series):
Diary of a Future President (1/17/20)
Love, Simon (2020)
Monsters at Work (2020)
Big Red (2020)
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Late 2020)

After that we get:
Loki (Early 2021)
WandaVision (Early 2021)
What If…? (Mid 2021)
Hawkeye (Late 2021)
Untitled Cassian Andor series (2021)
Moon Knight (2021)
Ms. Marvel (2021)
She-Hulk (2021)

Vader stopped Han’s blaster shots in Empire.

Does Baby Yoda have to start making space meth?

When I watched that scene, I thought "Is Baby Yoda gonna have to choke a bitch?"

I think we still have a case of Chekhov’s Droid here.

Where’s IG-11? Wasn’t it standing guard at the Razor Crest? Unless its programming was ridiculously incomplete or it’s been shut down, it should have responded to Kuiil being attacked mere meters from the ship. Maybe not guns blazing, but if Kuiil’s assertions about the reprogramming are true, it would at least try to retrieve its master.

Could have been left out for the sake of time, and maybe it’ll figure into Episode 8 (or not, again because of time or dramatic focus). But you don’t bring an elaborately rebuilt and reprogrammed droid along unless it has a use in the story.

The Redemption

A bit of a disappointing of a season finale. I was expected more given it was Waititi directed.

The first time they joked about stormtroopers not being able to hit anything in the heist ep was cute. Beating us over the head with the same joke just isn’t as funny.

A wee bit funny that Moff Gideon was too busy killing his own people to be able to get the report that they had The Kid.

I was a bit perplexed when they didn’t try to shoot at the E-web as it was being set up, even more when it was revealed how it simply blew up with one shot from Moff Gideon. Who amazingly can just walk around in a firefight without concern over being hit.

IG-11’s arc came and went too fast.

Not even an attempt by The Kid to heal our hero’s head injury? Fine if they conveniently had him too tired by having Forced back the flamethrowing, but a common superpower story problem, once you have a power established that is a get out of jail card you have to contrive why it cannot be used.

Nice to have my understanding that the Mandalorians are not a race but “a creed” made up of different races confirmed. Again, I like that compared to bloodline powers of the Skywalkers and congenital polymidchloria.

Did like the “no living thing” line.

Ah well. Still a wonderful season with a great penultimate ep. Not an awful ep, just not as good as what led up to it.

So, Moff Gideon is a Force user, or he just has a lightsaber? (By the way, it’s good to see my favorite color of lightsaber, black, make a canon appearance onscreen in Star Wars. I loved using it in The Force Unleashed).

Apparently I don’t know shit: This is the first live-action appearance, but it’s all over the animated canon.

Yes, that is a very specific black lightsaber. It is like guy pulled out Excalibur in the last scene.
A few points:

Loved the Randal and Dante Biker Scouts.

Loved the astromech droid with the limb mods.

“Come on baby, do the magic hand thing must become a meme.”
What is it with Star Wars and lava?

Have to still agree with the South Park character: The Mandalorian makes the new movies look like dog shit.

Also, it is still a problem that almost nobody seems to have heard of Jedi when they were still around and famous within the lifetimes of many characters on the show.

As has been pointed out in this thread - big dang universe. Famous in the parts that were parts of the storylines we’ve heard doesn’t mean famous everywhere else.

So they the rigors of training rule out The Kid becoming a Yoda species Mandalorian. Shame. But will The Kid’s peeps to be found and united with be the secret Planet of Yodas or a secret group of Jedi Knights? I’m betting on the latter. To be retconned into future sequels.

But they were the diplomats negotiating peace treaties! They would have been all over Space News all the time, before the Empire took over. Look at the start of The Phantom Menace–they didn’t sent guys (or giant slug monsters) with suits and briefcases to negotiate the trade dispute–they sent Jedi, and everybody they met knew who Jedi were. They weren’t reclusive monks, they were prominently involved in galactic politics.
