The meandering musing MMP

I grew up in Maryland, and I NEVER considered myself a southerner. But I also don’t keep fighting the Civil War, as my family didn’t even arrive in the states till the early 1900s. It wasn’t my war. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just realized - last July would have been my maternal grandmother’s 100th birthday. She was of the first generation on that side of the family born in the US. My dad and his sibs (except Aunt Stella) were the first on his side of the family - mostly born in the 20s (Dad was born in 1930.) It occurs to me that I could be one of this immigrants the right wing whines about.

Of course not.
When R.E. Lee’s army came through Maryland, he made his guys pay for everything-with Confederate money.

What was The Band’s fascination with the Southern US? They were all Canadian, save for Levon Helm.

I survived a trip to  Wally*World! I went all by myself. A certain somebody said he’d believe he’d pass on goin’, but be waitin’ with the nerve tonic when I got back. Apparently I have taken up with a clown.

Anywho, I am now in possession of a sto’ boughten (oh like y’all thought I’d resist that!) cheese ball. I got a few other things as well (they had some nice parsnips). Plus, the all important beer for tonight. I decided on some Yuengling so’s we can share with YP. He likes Yuengling and so do we. I was goin’ to get an eight ounce thingy of extra sharp cheddar cheese and make cheese thangs but the cheese ball was actually cheaper than the cheddar cheese. So I decided it was fate. Plus, I already have good crackers here at da cave. Now I have pasta cookin’ in chikin broth (I boiled some boneless chikin boobs earlier this mornin’) and shall at some point put together a chikin pasta sallit for tomorrow.

Go Me!

So what about your previous declaration about the Mason-Dixon line??? Get your story straight, man!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a craving for some collard greens so it’s off to the store for that and the makings for chicken and dumplings. It is raining here so it’s a good day to cook.

Hard to believe how cold it is in some places.

Thanks for the tutorial on flour GT. I never knew flour was so complicated. And temperamental.

Have a great day all.

Maryland was “somewhat disposed to the Southern states” according to that inarguable source, Wikipedia.
Northern Arkansas was pro Union, but we don’t wave that fact about.

I have never Yuengled in my life.
I’m pretty sure that one can be arrested for it over here.

The only place I’ve come across ‘boughten’ before is in the Little House on the Prairie books.

I think you’re only allowed to use the word if you made your house and over 80% of the stuff in it yourself.

All y’all are smart people.

No comments from the Peanut Gallery!:stuck_out_tongue:

And I think I can guess which finger you’re using.

Must figure out how to convince husband and cat that 7am does not qualify as “sleeping in”. (grumble)

Boughten can be used when it’s used as ‘store boughten’ because then it’s not a word, it’s part of a phrase
or something like that anyway.

My ex hubbie was from Pa and his family wanted to know why I didn’t have a southern accent what with me being from the south and all. It was also one of the reasons they didn’t like me, the other two being that I was raised Catholic and I owned a horse.

Anyway, I had one parent from above the MasonDixon line and one parent from below it, they met in the middle and here I am. Although I’ve never understood why WV is considered to be a southern state.

Spidey which finger?

Back from my first errand - to the post office! Laundry is all done, folded, and put away. I’m having a sammich before going out again on the rest of my errands. I had to get to the PO because it closes at noon, but I wasn’t ready to do the other things.

Temp is all the way up to 28° here - a veritable heat wave! Next frosty snap is Monday night, when it drops into single digits again. I am not amused. C’mon spring!!!

Projected highs all week in the 60s here in Sacramento (although we do have a couple of nights scheduled to get below freezing.

it’s 34 here. : runs around in flip flops and shorts :

**doggio **- it doesn’t count when you do that indoors! :stuck_out_tongue:

On Monday the forecast calls for rain/icy rain/wind with a high of 38 and a low of 15 overnight. This is not acceptable. ICK!

Pasta sallit has been made. We sampled some for N.O.L. I done good!

Personally I love to Yuengling, especially at night.

Errands have been run. I guess I can’t put it off any longer. Gotta go do the water change. Dammit.

I thought FCD was the fish fan in the family. Why isn’t he doing that?

Rosie FCD is off tendin’ to the parental units. MOOOOOOM has been duly instructed on how to do a water change. He thoughtfully made sure she has enough to keep her busy and off the streets while he is away.

I can see the next volume in the *Rosie, the Cute Snow Bunny * series featuring the Evile dogbutler rather than Farmer Rabinowitz. :dubious:

I would guess people see them as being culturally Southern.
