Dayum, it’s storming outside! Wind is blowing and snow is drifting and the temp is down, down, down… (blue from cold, not surprise).
Watched the new House–it was good. Made brownies for interview tomorrow (I have to interview a director of a library for school and I promised him lunch, but lunch doesn’t work for him, so it’s brownies).
Squeak is back in the bed–I discovered upon replacing the dust ruffle and making the bed (with clean sheets and all).
not much to add here. I suppose the OP can go ahead and put me in Homewood. Put me near Idlewild Country Club, if possible (great views).
Stay warm, all.
pie, it’s Easter time again, time to stock up with about the six bags I go through a year. And prayers for your mother. Haze and rigs, it is nasty on this side of the lake too. I posted, took a sidelong look outside, and did a double take. When fetching the mail earlier, it was almost balmy for this time of year! Bah! We only had one crack of thunder, but it was enough for me to think the grainery out back was falling down. Nothing else but a lot of rain. Now it seems to be a very wet white sleet. Yuck. I hope the kids have school tomorrow, we have to go see about insurance in Three Oaks for the new house.
And my bed has had a creak in it for the last three years. Nothing like an Afternoon Delight wondering if the kids hear that and know whats going on. I know when Jim is tossing and turning during the day I hear it. I’ll have to look into fixing that now. Your fixation has become mine.
If the OP would like, since all the cool kids are doing it, I’m on the west side of town, and a little more to the south. I’m rural y’all.
-20 windchills expected in the morning. I rode my bike to the library today! And now my car is encased in ice…
I have nothing to read. This is very bad. I am rereading Pride and Prejudice for “filler”.
I want to read Devil in the White City. I will be at a library tomorrow. Hmm…I wonder if there is anything I could do to solve my non-reading material? Perhaps the librarian would have an idea…
I’m just posting here because it sounds like you guys need the reading material in Chicago.
Hmm, okay, so I got a white elephant yesterday, it’s from another forum I frequent. No not that one with all the name calling and bad behavior, it’s rather a nice one. I got a couple interesting new things, among other a secret identity.
I’ve printed out this thread so I can begin seeing who I’ve missed on the MMP People Finder, and make corrections to those who have asked. Maybe I’ll pick a name at random and put them in Lake Titicaca since no one has taken the bait on that idea. I am cruel like that sometimes.
I think I’m jumping into a fight in the Pit, looks it may be a good one. The OP is a bit of a silly feller, if not outright obnoxious, and teasing QED can be a bit fun as well.
HazelNutCoffee, I was born in Chicago and lived there all my life. I remember blizzards with over two feet of snow, one winter when the El stopped running between Wilson and Howard and I had to walk several miles to get home. I was out in -76 windchill once. After 54 years I decided I’d had enough. Now I sit back and laugh while the local news talk about hazardous road conditions whenever there’s going to be an inch of snow.
Morning all. I am at work and suffering from a bad case of the Don Wannas!
The weather here is improving - not so cold any more, especially now that the winds have eased. It’s about 64°F/18°C now, with an expected maximum of 69°F/21°C, so I am much happier than a couple of weeks ago when the minimum was 46°F/8°C and the maximum was only 58°F/14°C (keeping in mind that we have no insulation in the house and no central heating, just high ceilings, tiled floors and a couple of extremely ineffective electric radiators)! I do NOT handle cold weather well, particularly when I don’t have the clothes or other necessary accoutrements to cope with it! Okay, enough whining!
beebs, I am perfectly happy with my placement on the map - it would be difficult to be more exact, given the lack of street mapping for my little island!
Cutie, prayers and good thoughts headed out for your Mom’s surgery!
Sigh … off to do more pretendy-worky stuff. Gotta continue to earn a living, I s’pose!
So, yesterday was pretty much a waste of time. No, wait, we found out that the new-fangled Computerized Management System we’re supposed to use for … something military related, sorry… sucks donkeys’ balls (and chokes on them) Gah.
Much too much to catch up on… but good wishes to your mother, Cutie; and good luck everybody in the Chicago area with the weather today – sounds like you’re in for a doozy!
We’re having what we consider “real” winter here today – raining most of the time, with quite a bit of wind and the high just below 50F (9C, according to the news). Jerusalem got down to -2C (~28F) overnight, 3C (37F) projected high for today, and are getting snow overnight and today! ::jealous::
I can’t tell how close your marker is, **beebs **-- Israel doesn’t play nice with Google Maps for some obscure (no doubt “security” related) reason. But, yes, Cutie, I live within 10 minutes walk of the beach
Appropriate or inappropriate hugs and gropes to all of you (you each know what you’re getting :D)
beebs, you can throw me in the lake. I’m not much for putting up my actual location anyway. But I’m interested to see that no one is in the middle of the US. How come? Why aren’t there any middle US people?
How rude! You didn’t link it so I had to go look that one up. I didn’t want to miss a good Pit thread. But that guy’s MO is getting a little old already.
You mean I have to choose? There’s no choice D: all of the above?
I just check on my placement on the map - it has me in Magruder Park, which is just down the street from me, so pretty neat! Yes, I’m up in the middle of the night … again. LOL I wasn’t feeling 100% yesterday, though, so went to sleep very early (8:30). I’m headed back to bed in a few.
Thank you, you’re just in time to. I did a little quick research and came up with this list of people who have posted to this thread without giving a location: Ellen Cherry, Octalcode, and Emilio Lizardo. C’mon guys, you still have your “joke” location in the bank.
As for why there’s no one in the middle of the US… most everything north of Texas is known as “The Great Plains”. Populated, but really spread out, and west of that before you get to California is The Rocky mountains, some of which are rather inhospitable, much like Chicago right now.
