Haze, I’m concerned. You seem to be living fast, and possibly dying young.
Are you playing hooky, again? Or are you demonstrating the thematic aspects of eBay to your lit students?
but she’ll leave a good looking corpse
Heh. I don’t have class til 12:30. College #2 is on spring break this week.
rosie, if I can leave behind a good-looking corpse, I shall not have lived in vain.
Bobbio that presentation sounds awesome. And I love your bathroom theme. When I was in Asheville at New Year’s my friend and I went to an antique barn looking for some doors. There was a complete outhouse for sale, seats included. Oh the fun I could have with a real outhouse…
LiLi, when my Older Sister had her first daughter, the doctors told her they don’t accept returns. Also, cute things are supposed to be mailed to Abu Dhabi.
worships you
I don’t watch American Idol either. I’d rather be stabbed in the eye with a salty, syphilitic straight pin for an hour than watch/listen to screechy people be screechy. Clay Aiken and Fantazia are already on The List for appearing on far too many billboards along the interstate.
WINS THE THREAD
I love hearts! I’m always a sucker for trying to shoot the moon. I always fail.
Ya know (ignores Rosie’s game as have never heard of it and it sounds like a math related MENSA thing and I’m blonde), I think I may be thinking of the wrong game. <goes and checks on a Microsoft computer because God forbid Mac have good games on it>
Yup, it’s hearts. I just played a round. I have no memory of HOW to play. Something about the Queen of Spades…gah-I am so ready for the nursing home. <sigh>
I haven’t played hearts in ages. And I haven’t played canasta or gin rummy in ages either(the version I know is apparently a variation on Shanghai rummy, which is the closest description online I have been able to find of the rules I learned).
One thing I miss about not living with Grandma is playing cards. When Velociraptor gets older I’ll pull out a couple of decks and teach him. So far we sometimes play Go Fish.
(emphasis mine) y’know - I know a lot of blonde Mensans…
When I have more time, I explain the subtle differences in the two games
RigsI’m all for playing a game! Euchre anyone?
Butterfly I love canasta! It is definately hard to find people with whom to play.
Haze maybe you should take a break from shopping…Just a thought, but what do I know, I hate shopping. I’m picky, and it’s hard to find things that fit well, so when I find something I like, I buy more than one in different colors. I have four of the same blouse-- red, dark teal, light pink and bright pink.
You don’t remember how to play, c’mon we’ll play a hand. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll remember how to play… How about a small bet to make it interesting? hehehe
Must grade lab reports…
Still sick with the added fun of pressure in my face and dripping. Whomever was driving that car that hit me can go to hell.
I too do not watch AI. I saw two episodes and had to stop. It makes me uncomfortable to listen to people sing without the studio sound. And I’m a great lover of music, so go figure.
I do love to play cards though. Hearts, spades, gin rummy, eucher, Skip-Bo, and Uno. And Phase Ten, forgot about that one.
I think it would be a blast to play Apples to Apples with the lot of you. When I played with my dad, (Who is much like this crowd) there was much laughing.
I watched TVland’s High School Reunion last night. They’ve been heavily advertising it, and was curious. This will be my short lived guilty pleasure. I don’t do much reality TV, having burnt out on it a long time ago with Real World 10 or something like that.
My Amusement part seems to be a horror themed park. I’ll have to speak to management about that.

Excellent game! We play this with the kids and it is hysterical!
It’s been long enough that I forget how to play, but once I started again I’d pick it up. All the people I played cards with are older, and some are gone now (Grandpa it’ll be seven years this Saturday) but I loved it. Basically we’d play Hearts with one couple, when my Grandma’s cousin came over we’d play rummy and after a bit I was taught canasta.
Crib is also a good game, that was the ultimate camping game. When night came we’d sit around the picnic table after the dishes were done with a lamp and the fire crackling nearby and play crib while drinking tea (or perked coffee) until we were tired enough to crawl into our tents and sleep.
I’m not a card player, but Papa Tigs was the stand-in for the local old ladies’ pinochle game at the tender age of 5. They’d give him nickels because they thought he was so cute. And my grandmother used to love a game called Spite and Malice, which I gather is a precursor to Uno but with a much better name.
Poor Papa Tigs, he’s been having so much trouble sleeping again that when I crawled into bed far too late last night after the latest round of congressional [del]drivel[/del] work, he was still awake. So I insisted he call in sick, and he was able to go back to sleep for several hours. Of course, I woke up to let the dogs out at a decent hour, but he was sleeping so peacefully I didn’t dare move, so someone had an accident in the house. Not their fault, poor dogs. We all miss the dog door we had in New Orleans.
Is it Firday yet?
I just sneezed at my monitor. My other monitor, the one where I’ve been reading up on SAP documentation… do you guys think I may be becoming allergic to horribly formatted Power Points?
Went to the doc, almost got sideswiped, locked my keys in the car, took Nelly to the vet for another ear infection. I’m poor and pooped now.
Yay for unblocked Rosie!
Soapy, I taught Maggie Wonderbeagle how to play poker. She won most of the time.

Canasta was always the family game to play. I remember learning when I was 8…I could never remember the point values, so they had to be written out for me for a long time. I have a pretty large and close extended family, so there were almost always people to play.
[nogastalia] We always played cards when we went camping too. I have a lot of memories of playing with the fire in the backgroun and the lantern or the lights my grandparents would sting along their camper’s awning…taking my turn and running over to the fire to toast a marshmellow and running back for my turn again. [/nogastalia]
My grandparents are still alive, though they can’t hold the cards to play anymore.
time for my lunch walk…I wonder if it’s still raining. bah.
I would take a break, but I haven’t bought anything yet. The last dress I bid on I lost, unfortunately.
Do you think this is an okay resume pic? For some reason Korean ESL schools always asks for pics along with resumes. Be honest and tell me if I look too goofy or if the light is unflattering or something.
I love the pic (damnit Haze, you’d need to get dunked in tar to look bad), but isn’t an “ID type pic” more common for resumes?
