Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienatin’ and not hungover. Rah! 'Tis 73 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 92 for the day. There may be pool time this afternoon.
Today is also Pentecost thus one is supposed to wear red to church. We have red shirts. Or should I say RED because they are bright red. Also, we down at good ol’ St. Pat’s celebrate “The Feast of Saint Seersucker” this mornin’ as it is Memorial Day weekend and the official unofficial start of Summer. Thus folks are encouraged to “Summer it up” with regard to attire. Seersucker, shorts, loud Summer shirts, sandals, flip flops, straw hats etc are all proper wear for “The Feast of Saint Seersucker.” See, we Whiskypalians can be whimsical when we want. We have straw hats and sunglasses for the occasion.
Always happy to provide inspiration!
I hear stirrin’ from our overnight guests. Probably JDD as he, like me, is an early riser. Yep. He’s headed to the kitchen in search of caffiene.
Speakin’ of caffiene I need more and shall discuss brekkie with JDD. I suppose I should feed folks up in da cave.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
dafuq am doing I up at 6:43am on a Sunday?
**Red **shirts, straw hats, and sunglasses - are you *sure *you’re gay?? :dubious:
Good morning! Daughter is coming over in a couple of hours to spend the day with us. She’s bringing Cozmo, which means Ziva will spend the day hiding under my side of the bed. I’ll probably toss a couple of steaks on the grill for dinner - I think I have some in the freezer. That’s pretty much the extent of my plans for the day.
We started talking yesterday about becoming boat-free. Turns out **FCD **was thinking the same thing independent of my suggestion. I’ll talk to him some more about it - if he’s serious, I’ll go down to the marina this week and remove all of our personal items and give it a good cleaning. Then I’ll post some ads and see how it goes. Part of me hates the thought of giving it up, but between the slip rent, the insurance, and annual maintenance costs, we’re spending many thousands just to say that we own a boat. That’s pretty dumb. We could use that money to occasionally rent a boat if we really want to sail, and we wouldn’t have to deal with any of the boat-owner nonsense. Frankly, it’d be a relief. We talked about doing just that about 6 years ago - right about the time we bought this boat. Yeah, we’re all talk sometimes.
I need caffeine also. But that would require me to walk all the way to the kitchen. How much do I want caffeine? The internal debate continues.
Happy Sunday!!
PS - totally hangover free here.
Uh-oh. A bunch of redshirts wandering around. Stay away from Jim. ;)
Computer Boy’s advice worked as did the blowing out of the dust. He mentioned, though, that the video card I have tends to run a little hot. Yeah it does. After playing a couple of hours of Skyrim last night I checked the temperatures and it was 92 C. Yeah, that’s like twelve degrees hotter than it should be. There’s still a bit of graphical hiccups but nowhere near as bad as it was before cleaning. I’ve requested assistance in cleaning it out more thoroughly because I do not touch the insides of my computer without adult supervision. This is why I befriend computer people.
The whole place smells like burnt garlic this morning because Clown was frying chicken feet last night. Trust me, they’re grosser than you think.
It’s gross when they’re still attached to the chicken.
Charcoal is lit, chips soaking, and the meat prepped. I’s gonna smoke a butt<snerk>.
A chicken (dead and sans feet) and a few sausage rings too…
We’re supposed to go to my MiL’s for “dinner” today at the typical old people time; 2:00 p.m. I really wish we didn’t have to go.
We’ve also been invited up my daughter’s place for a BBQ tomorrow. Since they always make the trek down here, we told her we’d come. I’m looking forward to seeing my daughter.
So much for a do-nothing weekend.
It was quite nice yesterday, but today; not so much. It’s pretty gray and cool out at the moment.
Spaz, exactly how many seconds until you move?
Your parting words of advice to your soon-to-be-ex-roomates should be to keep their arms out, it makes it harder to throw a net over them.
Just woke up, checking the weather forecast: 84, 86, 86, 82, Tropical Storm Beryl? WTF?
Oh 2012, what a card!
I’m having some quality time with my grand-dog. Daughter and spousal unit went to Lowe’s to get some plywood. They’re going to build a workbench in the basement today. I have a couple of steaks thawing and marinating. I think I’ll build a cucumber salad in a few minutes. I need to load the dishwasher also, and change into shorts since it’s getting warmer. I wore jeans to breakfast because I hate sitting on restaurant chairs in shorts - my legs tend to stick and it hurts when I go to stand up. Our chairs at home are upholstered so they’re kinder to my poor thighs.
Yep, life is exciting at FairyChatEstates!
Me leaving’s going to hurt them more than it hurts me. I take comfort in this fact.
It’s 11 am and I’m still in my pjs. Got up around 8 which is late for me even on the weekend. Did a load of towels, yakked on the phone with a friend, watered my plants. It’s going to be in the 90s today so I supposed I should get dressed, go to the barn and bring Bob teh Wonder Pony in early. Going out to an early supper (around 4-ish) at the local diner. Their special this month is $1.10 sundaes (1 scoop ice-cream, 1 topping). Think I’ll have vanilla scream with butterscotch sauce. After I have a real meal. I might bring home the sundae to have while I watch tv tonight.

I suppose these are Star Trek references that I’m not gettin’. Jim I hate to think how you woulda reacted to the sea of red shirts at the church house this mornin’.
So, deheathenization, N.O.L. and a nappy poo have been accomplished. So far a good day.
Oh I wouldn’t worry about my reaction, I would worry for them

Wow. I am a totally different person when I have a job. I had yesterday off because of the holiday so instead of being lazy, I helped Sweetie clean the house and then rebagged 10 bags of yard waste (the bags were left out in the rain and disintegrated).
Today I woke up at 10 which is super early for me. I then mowed the entire lawn, depooped the kennel, loaded 13 lawn bags in the jeep (I am an awesome packer), went with Sweetie to the drop off to get rid of them, bought more flower pots and mulch, repotted some plants, eating lunch now. Gotta finish mulching my gardens too.
I have realized that the doctor was incorrect in his assumption of what caused my arthritis. It wasn’t over use. It was severe under use. The more I’m up and about, the better it feels. I haven’t even taken a pain killer in 2 days. Basically, I’ve been so lazy the last few months that I gave myself an inflamed hip joint. I’m still limping a lot and occasionally take a step that really makes me regret not bringing my cane everywhere I go but for the most part I feel so much better than I did last weekend.
Well, the word from my mom is “you’re better off out there.” Dad’s dementia has progressed to such a point that he’s actively hostile to both her and my older brother - his primary caretaker now. If I were to walk back into that snakes’ nest, I’d probably set Dad off and earn myself another bout of clinical depression.
So, I’m in Dallas to stay. Which is a good thing. My younger brother, my friends, my church, and other much happy stuff.
The downsides are money and job. I’ve probably sent out forty or more resumes for IT and education jobs. The only response I’ve gotten is a temp agency that’s sent me out for 2.5 days of work. They really like me. They think I’m great. They’ve also told me that nearly all their clients want people who’ve held a full-time IT position in the specific area they want in the last three months. Which pretty much means I’m screwed.
I have some side projects - none of which will provide immediate income - that I need to get busy on. After all, it would be better to have some income in six months than none. I need to start working on whatever marketable skills I can gain.
I knew it would be difficult landing a full-time job with benefits, but it’s now looking like it’ll be a months-long trek instead of weeks-long, and even then, most of the wages I’m seeing published start at $12, less than I made at my first real, grown up, full-time job, sixteen years ago. Depressing as hell, and yet, I’ll be thrilled to get anything with benefits, because my COBRA runs out at the end of July, and I’m terrified of being without coverage.
