I don’t really prep. I don’t outline, I think of names as I write, I don’t research. I might do a little while I’m writing, but I figure I can fix it all when I edit. It’s probably not the most efficient method.
Swampy,
Without a car, we really can’t afford to live here. So, sorta, because I’m tired of the struggle & because I will be close to my family again. I’m also not crazy about this apartment.
OTOH, I hate hate HATE moving, I hate having to be a burden on my folks & I’m really going to miss my friends & family & Church up here.
Heck, I’ll miss Columbus. I’ve lived here almost a third of my life. I met PB here. I got married here. and baptized here and and… sniffle:(
But, I’ll be ok. I WON’T miss the cold winters & with Internets, Have **Pearl **will travel.
(TL;DR Yes and No)
BTW I have a recipie!
Braised Naugha
Make sure you skin Naugha v. throughly, as skin is very very tough.
Brine Naugha for 24 hours in 0.90% saline solution.
dry carefully with cotton gauze.
Put in !!Never used!! metal bedpan.
cook gently over bunsen burner in spots till roasted.
serve with war surplus can of no salt vegatables & lime jello.
It’s been a busy and productive Firday. I finished all my glazing by about noon, except for one spot inside one pot and I just fixed that a few minutes ago. **FCD **came home early (he’s going to start working 35-hour weeks till they get more work in) and we went to Bert’s for a burger. After we got back, I took all the shelves for my kiln into FCD’s workshop so I could sand them and put on a new coat of kiln wash. (It’s a chalky coating designed to keep glazed pieces from sticking to the shelves in case the glaze runs all the way down.)
While the shelves are drying, I’m taking a break. **FCD **is out on his bike - he’s riding to DC with a group tomorrow to see the cherry blossoms. I’m staying home - probably cleaning my studio. I need to mix up some colored slip for a technique I saw on youtube - I bought stain in several colors that’ll be perfect for slip. (Slip is clay with lots of water in it - the consistency of a good wall paint.)
For now, I’m taking a break. Because I deserve it, dammit!
Note to self - be suspicious of dinner invitations from Pearl…
I think I may need a new nickname. I blew up about 5 grand worth of gear last night…
It’s dead, Jim.
ETA… Oh, and how was it killed? Did you try to find how loudly the subs would play 60 Hz when mains power was fed to the line input? ![]()
It’s nice that if the economy is going to tank in some places that that’ll provide opportunities elsewhere. We just locked in a ridiculous refi rate and the lender credits offset nearly all the closing costs. Yea Fed, you stimulated my economy!
Weather is gorgeous today. Hope some of you folks up north start to thaw out a bit and get some greens pokin’ up through the frost pretty soon. Gonna bug out shortly, everyone go has a nice weak end.
Go to the gym if you have a weak end!
Bikers going to look at flowers. :dubious:
Is alcohol involved?
This job lets us work from home if we don’t have meetings
Today I had the phone people coming in, so I’ve worked from home, and then set up the computer, and gotten the last of my stuff from the car (as usual, a new job meant a new address). It feels more like a Saturday than a Friday.
I’ve figured out with this particular HOG chapter, the rides are about the going, not the destination. Except when the destination is an ice cream stand. ![]()
Bwahaha, I needed that.
Informational Note
How to kill a speaker and an amplifier
1: grossly mismatch amplifier and speaker, 1200 watts rms/ 1500 watt peak speaker @ 8 ohms with amplifier that is 2500 watts @ 8 ohms. This is akin to attaching a fire truck to a garden hose, but can be done if you are careful.
2: add DJ. Note about DJs in general, they do not understand that red lights are bad.
3: add engineer who is bored and not paying enough attention, who also set limiter incorrectly.
4: DJ cranks bass all the way up to go out with bang, subs go out with “bang” amp lets smoke out. Note about amplifiers, amplifiers work because of smoke if the smoke gets out amp will no longer amplify. Note about speakers, if you continue to send signal to a speaker that is no longer speaking, they can catch fire. Been there done that, not last night but I did do it in front of 8000 people at an Anime Convention.
5: expect long time friend, coworker and rentee of said speakers, to not speak to me for a few days.
**Jim the Destroyer **
JTD,
That sucks. but I bet that was an awesome sight/sound! I never saw speakers blow up.
What does it mean if I read this as a fetish loaf? :smack:![]()
I bet you would have liked the time I had an amplifier blow an oil filled capacitor. It was shooting fire about six feet and set the venue’s carpet alight. Everyone panics, I calmly shut the amp off and stamp out the carpet. Had to turn the amp rack on it’s face to smother the fire, replaced the cap a few days later and some wiring, bet that old Crest CA9 is still working.
Sometimes my job is a blast
**Jim the Destroyer **
Ironically, it’s often easier to release the magic smoke when the amp is too small and you drive it into clipping. Good way to toast the tweeters.
Sometimes you just wanna bang your head.
I ride past the kids school, two police cars with flashing lights and a student in handcuffs being put in the back seat.
Then the car finance company called, probably because I filled out the ‘what do you think of our new site’ card and told them their site sucks snot through a straw - yes I really did.
So the nice man sent me an account history and he can’t get my account to work. He deleted my info to start over, so now when you try to access my account it says it doesn’t exist and when I try to re-register it says I already exist.
Then the mortgage company called me back and to answer my questions and there is going to be an issue with my self employment.
Then I find out that I may not be able to get a mortgage through them anyway because i want to borrow too little.
We are going to look at the ones I am interested in tomorrow morning.
I can’t wait.
Oh gotti how are thou so wise in the ways of audio? Tis always better to have too large an amp than too small.
**Jim the Destroyer **
Dindin makin’ is underway and so far nuttin’ has blown up.
Well, not like it’s a really difficult meal I’m makin’ anyways. I shall warm up my famous Eyetalian chikin. I have marinated carrots with bell peppers and onions and will shortly steam up some succotash in the nukelator. The only time consumin’ (all 25 minutes of it!) thing is the rolls I just put in the oven. I suppose I could blow up either the nukelator or oven or both but this is a thing not likely to happen.
Tomorrow, because we are good people, OYKW and I are goin’ to assist JDD and Partner with mowin’ JDD’s folks’ biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig ass yahd. Seriously. We’re talkin’ about four acres that’s mostly grass. JDD’s dad is no longer physically capable of doin’ it and the yahd has yet to be cut this year so it’s I’m sure a big ol’ mess. After this JDD and Partner can probably handle it themselves. Or, JDD says he’s considerin’ contractin’ with a lawn service. He’s a good son. The upside to this is JDD’s mom is a great cook and is makin’ us a feast. YAY!
I just know y’all want my life.
Pearl we shall be sure and add braised naugha to the blog.
Put down the squash and step back from the nukelator!
For some odd reason, I was convinced it was already Saturday (despite knowing that DH went to work today, and he normally only works Monday to Friday), and was puzzled by mentions of people going to their jobs.
Apparently, I cannot brain today.
I’ll really confuse you. I do work Saturdays.
It is officially spring. I have a glass full of twiddlebugs*adorning my shelf. Twiddlebugs = springtime. They’re my favoritest spring flower.
*I call them that because they look like the Twiddlebugsfrom Sesame Street. I didn’t know what they were really called until a couple of years ago.
