LiLi, I think you can probably scale down his water intake, especially before bedtime. I believe the general advice is for an average-sized adult should drink about 6-8 cups a day… which means a little tyke his size should be fine with less than that.
Just be glad it’s all water. Imagine all the sugar he’d be taking in if it was juice!
Also, when can I move in? There is a distinct lack of candy at my house.
Right. Well, there’s space in the basement, if you don’t mind being locked in with the cats at night.
He’s waking up screaaaaming for water or milk in the middle of the night, and demanding it at bedtime. I think he’s being a pest, Mr. Lissar thinks he’s thirsty. We have a difference of opinion. I think two litres a day is excessive.
Hmmm… I think one should let a kid drink as much water as they feel they need… and that 2 liters isn’t excessive.
But what do I know…? After all, I really do live in the middle of the desert! :p:D
Seriously, try to get him to drink more during the day and less in the evening; and try (if you don’t already) to get him to “go potty” as part of the going-to-sleep “ritual.” Con him into believing he’s stealing a few more moment of awakeness this way
Pros: there’s lots of yummy candy (and food, in general).
Cons: the cats might pee on me. And it’s a basement.
I think I’ll take a pass. I can make my own candy (I don’t… but I suppose I’m just not sufficiently motivated), and I’ve really gotten to like not being drenched in cat pee on an ongoing basis now that Ariel’s been trained out of that nasty habit.
After work, I did $90 worth of grocery shopping, then came home and cooked up a big batch of sketty sauce for the freezer. Supper was N.O.T. soup - muy yummo!!
Now I’m going to bag up the sketty sauce. It’s been so rainy, my brain is getting moldy and I can’t think of anything more exciting to share…
That was the slide on Highway 64. The I-40 slide happened at 2am.
I was going to see Inglorious Basterds tonight, but I realized that organizing my life and getting my shit together was a bit more important. Speaking of transitions into adulthood.
I’m here too. Just got back from dinner at an AWESOME Greek restaurant that we just started frequenting in TVLand. Tonight I had some DEEEEEEEEELICIOUS Lemon and Rice soup. (I’m sure there’s a fancy Greek name for it, but I don’t know what it is.) And it’s inexpensive, too. YUM YUM YUM.
I’m here for a bit anyway. Had to leave work early to go to a student led conference for my son. Have to be there around 4:30. After that, I need to hit the store because my round brush seems to have disappeared.
After that, I’ll come home and cook up some dinner; not that I feel like it. My tummy is feeling slightly wonky.
Even though I left work early, the day seemed long; especially after having to go over the VA Hospital for a meeting regarding putting together a business case analysis for a Joint Incentive Funding venture for a sleep study lab. Bleh…
Can your pediatrician give you some guidance on the liquids,** LiLi**? IIRC, my nephew always wanted more to drink at bedtime, so rules were put in place so that he’d stop drinking at a certain hour. Once he was potty trained, there was a potty ritual as well.
Good thoughts headed your way on the work dilemma, mmmmmmmm.
That spam was certainly interesting,** Mork**, but yeah, probably ineffective.
I’m envious of your weather, Rebo.
I made it home around 6:30 (it’s 7:20 now) and immediately put some rolls in the oven and made a cream-cheese spread to put on them. I’m thinking I might have some peas and 1/2 a grapefruit as well. And probably some chocolate.
Noone, it’s just above freezing here, and the kid weighs maybe 28lbs, tops. I think he’s not sweating out two litres a day. He’s in bed, having a big fit because I wouldn’t let him drink a cup of water at bedtime. Mama is a mean, bad mama. Who is tired of changing sheets at 2 in the morning. I’ll talk to the doctor if it goes on a little longer, but I think it’s just something he can ask for and get: he’s delighted that we understand him at least some of the time, and there’s a little power trip going on.
Muppet, I don’t blame you. The cat pee is why Aerin and Bailey are being [DEL]thrown out[/DEL] farmed out to Mr. Lissar’s mother this weekend. They’re going to Cat Heaven. She’s a definite Cat Lady, and they’ll be very happy once they get over living with other cats.
Must finish laundry, wait out Nat’s big screaming fit, and dip various goodies in chocolate. Mr. Lissar and Attacks Husband are both out this evening- I hope Mr. Lissar comes home soon. He had a blinding headache before he went off to class.
Y’all have heard me mention the nor’easter. Tonight, 2 trees in the swamp about a half mile east of the VunderLair blew over into the road, and a car hit one and lodged itself several feet on top of one. My fire department was called to cut up the trees and clear the road.
Since said trees were between me and the fire station, I volunteered to direct traffic on the west side of the blockage. Most motorists were understanding, a couple were strangers and I had give them explicit directions for the detour, but there’s always one idjit that knows better than a fireman blocking the road with a car displaying flashing lights and directing traffic in another direction. A green SUV blew by me without hardly slowing down.
About 10 minutes later, the green SUV came back to my intersection at a snail’s pace. It went down past the B&B on the corner, turned around, and sat while I dealt with about a half dozen cars wanting scuttlebutt and directions.
Finally, I went over to talk to the SUV driver. If I took a bet, it would not have turned out this way; the driver was young, female, blonde, extremely self-important, and claiming not to know the area. I gave her directions how to get around, and bit my tongue hard resisting the urge to point out the road was blocked for a reason while slapping a knot on her head. Hey twunt, try this several times -> :smack:
Taters, did you get your suitcases back? I’m hoping yes–I think I missed this earlier.
LiLi, are you getting rid of the cats permanently?! {{{{hugs}}}}} I don’t have any further suggestions for helping with Nat’s night-time habit, other than what’s already been suggested. Good luck and will be sending good thoughts your way (and Nat’s too).
See how far behind the times I am? LOL Still recouperating, I guess! Popeye made dinner tonight, although he forgot how much I like cajun rice. I watched Flashforward and will gear up for Project Runway in a few minutes …
Hi** Herbs!** We got our suitcases back at 2:30 am on Monday. They didn’t arrive in Seattle until 11:00, and even then Alaska wanted to bring them out the next day. I told them to ring the doorbell, I didn’t care what time they got here. I wanted my suitcases!
The only casualties were a piece of coral that had shells embedded in it (some of the coral broke), and oddly enough my round hairbrush had gone missing. Other than that, all seemed to be there, if somewhat “tossed” looking.
Smokey is nuts tonight. She meows at me for attention and the minute I go to pet her she runs away. This sequence has been repeated several times over the last half hour. Cats. sheesh.
Just running through the thread, but I had to say:
That IS a summer’s day here. Isn’t it great? Of course tonight it’s supposed to get down to about 10 F. Brrrrrrrrr! Snow hasn’t really arrived, but we got a bit the last day or so. We can use more. Anybody got any ideas on a really effective snow dance? Or anything at all?
