The "Name that Lyric" Game

Here’s how it works: someone gives a line from ANY song, and the next person gives title and artist before giving their line. Make sure to ID who you are answering in case things get mixed up. Don’t look them up unless you have to, please.

With that, here’s the first 5:

B1: Some say we’re born into the grave…
B2: Smelling like a dry fishbone…
B3: Same as my daddy and his daddy before…
B4: Not afraid to paint my sky…
B5: 30 days, Lord, and 30 nights…

And we’re off!

“Copperhead Road,” by Steve Earle

I wish I knew some of the songs, brianjedi. I wish astorian had posted some after answering the Steve Earle line.

You can post some of your own if you want to help things out, just make sure that you put an ID in front of them to help keep things straight.

E1: “…I see you walking real slow, smiling at everyone”

Boys of Summer by Don Henley

B1: “…cool cat, lookin’ for a kitty/Gonna look in every corner of the city…”

Balance’s B1 Summer in the City by the Lovin’ Spoonful.

kd1: “Just as I crossed the Mississippi Line, I heard the highway start to whine, and I knew my left rear tire was about to go.”

KD1: “Uneasy Rider”-Charlie Daniels

Don’t forget that mine are still up there.

kd2: “After all, who am I? Just an ordinary guy, tryin’ hard to win me first prize.”

kd3: “Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken, and certainly misused.”

kd4: “There’s one perfect fit, and sugar, this one is it.”

kd5: “And people tend to pass you over, 'cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water, or stars in the sky.”

Yes, well done.

Quite so.
B5 (from brianjedi) The Needle and the Spoon by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Gee. You guys pick ones that are too hard!

Try these:

W1: So here’s the story from A to Z, you wanna get with me, you better listen carefully

W2: You can’t run and you can’t hide
You and me gonna touch and sky

W3: I’ve found the blessings to keep our love new
There’s one for you
And a million for you

W4: Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets

W5: Wishin’ I could thank you in a different way, c’mon

Them Bones - Alice In Chains

Summer In The City - umm… Joe Cocker I think?

I’ll have some contributions in a moment…

HM1 - “In her white lace, you could clearly see the lady sadly looking”

HM2 - “Meek and obedient you follow the leader, down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel”

HM3 - “What was deluxe becomes debris, I never questioned loyalty”

A relatively easy one

I am just a poor boy.
Though my story’s seldom told,
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles,
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest.

Gyan9, your G- is The Boxer, by Simon and Garfunkel.

Try to challenge us a little. Don’t put an entire verse down, even if you do think the verse is so beautiful it needs to be carved in marble on every man-made structure on the planet.

Heat Miser, you’re going to hurt my feelings, walking all over my correct answer like that. Not Joe Cocker. Lovin’ Spoonful.

Please accept my most humble apologies; I don’t know how I missed seeing your answer there.

“Reunited” - Peaches and Herb

“It’s Not Easy Being Green” - K. Fro
RA1: “Animal carpet wall to wall, American ladies five-foot tall in blue.”

RA2: “Vera, Chuck and Dave.”

RA3: “Now the Leafs call me up to drive the Zamboni.”

RA4: “Pillow fights, pillow talk, you be Doris, I’ll be Rock.”

I’ll be stunned if anybody gets that last one.

How about this one ?

G1 -

Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?

RA1 - Marakesh Express, CSN
RA2 - When I’m 64, by the Beatles

O1 - I saw your face and that’s the last I seen of my heart.
O2 - It’s dark all day and it glows all night.

Ra4: “Your Bed” by Cub
G1:Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here”
W1: “Wannabe”? Spice Girls

Try this: Lp1 - “You don’t do the things that I do, You want to do things I can’t do.”

Robot arm: There is a band called Ze Malibu Kids (comprised of Anna Warronker of “That Dog” and Jeff and Steve McDonald of “Redd Kross” Who do an EXCELLENT cover version of “Your bed” with male vocals.
