In my day we had to inscribe our posts on a plank of wood hand-hewn from an oak tree with an obsidian stylus. Then we had to dig a hole and plant the plank upright, hence giving birth to the term “post”.

Ugh, I hate that one. I never really liked smilies, and I tried to avoid using them, except the cool one. I loved that cool smilie. And now he looks like he’s trying too hard to be edgy. He’s a poseur, instead of just being the naturally awesome guy that he once was.
I think it looks really plastic-y and shiny and big, compared to the old board, but I like it–and I expect the shock should wear off in a few days.

I appreciate the technical upgrade and the efforts of the IT staff, but these new smilies suck donkey schlong.
Grmph. Grateful to the staff and all, but the new graphics look too fuzzy or jagged, like they’re sized wrong. The old straightforward plain-jane checkmarks, “go to top” and “quick reply” icons worked well enough, why replace them? This new set would probably do fine on some Happy Shiny Fun Board with sparkly animated avatars and giant signatures, but not here.
Also pissed because I’ve been demoted. I liked being a Charter Member, dash it all.
Probably wasn’t an experiment - when you update vBulletin part of the upload is the graphics for buttons and smileys. If you’re not paying attention it’s pretty easy to overwrite the old stuff by accident.
I’m glad to finally see an update though. vBulletin 3 went out of beta over a year ago, and there have been quite a few security patches in the meantime.
The plans were a newer innovation, much like you kids and your iPods. Back in the day, we didn’t even have a written language. If Ugg wanted to flame me, he would actually take a burning stick and throw it into my cave. Great Debates consisted of “snort vs. grunt - new paradigms in positive acknowledgements for inter-tribal communication”.

Right—yet another vote against the new “roll-eyes”. It simply doesn’t fit. In fact, I thought the old one had a touch too much mouth-curve, as well—a flat mouth would really convey that irritation when you’re at a loss for synonyms—but, it was much better than this, which misses the point entirely, I feel.
And, I know that things are probably being worked on as we speak, but I must say that I find the gaps (where member stati used to be) very distracting. It’s not about judging content against one’s status, it’s about a cohesive feel. If you must differentiate between those users who got on the boat within a month or so versus those who didn’t for any number of reasons, at least fill the gaps, please.

I don’t have a problem with it. I like some of the changes better, like the green buttons for those online. I don’t think this guy :o looks embarrassed though, I think he looks stoned.
