The new TV season

Wait, if you hate contemporary television that much, what are you doing in this thread?

p.s. Anybody got a link to a definitive list?

Last prime time fictional show I tried? Chicago Code. I watched out of hometown pride. Watched one episode. Couldn’t bring myself to watch again.

Last prime time fictional comedy show I actually enjoyed? I’d say Seinfeld. Good dialog there and clever plot twists.

Last prime time drama show I actually enjoyed? Christ, it’s been so long. Law & Order with Jerry Orbach I guess?

Yep! That’s it. Thank you.

Because I’m sick of folks saying that today’s television is the best it’s ever been, when that’s so manifestly wrong.

Damn, I believe you’re missing out on a lot. Maybe you’ve just lost interest or are preoccupied? But I’m not going to try and sell ya here.

Forgot my favorite drama! :smack: Criminal Minds.

So start a thread about that instead of coming into a thread specifically about the upcoming season and complaining about how terrible it all is.

Well, how would you even know?

I’m not trying to be snarky, it just seems there might be some paralyzing cynicism at play here.

I tell you what, watch only the first episode of Breaking Bad. I dare you not to watch the second.

Really? I don’t remember any commercials for New Amsterdam before its banishment (it was cancelled before it even premiered right?).

But yeah, Terra Nova looks awesome but I’m convinced it’ll be cancelled.

Okay. You’re on. I’ll report in a new thread since I seem to be spoiling this one here. Everyone else, please continue your ruminations while I watch Breaking Bad.

Cool. I honestly, sincerely hope you enjoy it.

The Pan Am and Playboy shows look like desperate attempts to create a new Mad Men type of show.

I get the same vibe. I might check out the pilot for both, but they don’t seem very compelling to me. And I say that as a very straight male.

Pan Am seems more fun, but it does just seem like ABC flailing in response of Mad Men.

IMDB has lists of premiere dates, if that helps.

Nice! Thanks, Morgyn.

Any cable dates yet? (History especially)

In a brief glance at shows, I’m interested more or less in:

Terra Nova
Grimm
Ringer
Homeland
Once Upon a Time
Pan Am
Person of Interest
The Playboy Club
Unforgettable
American Horror Story
Awake

We don’t get Showtime, so Homeland is out. The trailer for Awake is great. Ringer’s TV spots are annoying, but the IMDB trailer was interesting. (In the commercials, I was afraid one of the women was named Chiffon. I cringed. Siobhan I can handle. Chiffon, no!)

I can’t remember the name but I’m excited for the show where the guy lives two lives: one where his son lived and another where his wife lived.

I’m actually looking forward to New Girl, as I love Zooey Deschanel.

The one about the Marylin Montoe Broadway show seems like a wannabe cash in of Glee.

So far I’m looking forward to the return of **Mad Men, Community, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, and Boardwalk Empire. ** Boardwalk especially since my cable was out all week due to the hurricane and I went through the entire first season twice in that time. Breaking Bad is two thirds through the season so that doesn’t really count in my book. Haven’t paid attention to what’s new, but I’m sure I’ll find one or two that interest me.

Telling everyone you don’t like television is sooo 5 years ago. Now you have to lament how it’s just not as good as it used to be.

There is. As my grandma would put it, “Small things amuse small minds.”
