The next MMP

Here you go - and it’s kosher certified, too!

Yeah…hung over describes me pretty well this morning. I was awake at 5:50 after being up till 1:15 reading the HP spoiler thread. ::tries really hard not to do the math::

Hi AliceTG and FML. Nice to see you stop by.

Another shout out to Spats. One is NEVER too busy to stop by the MMP. It’s a rule. :stuck_out_tongue:

I notice that meli and Ali didn’t stop by last week either. Tsk tsk.

Oh…and I hope Jahdra’s OK. Hugs…

Cool OP, Sean.

Off to get ready for work and water some plants.

GT

If it’s Kosher then I’m probably not interested… Yeah, I’m weird that way.

And I wonder if they have that pig picture on the product itself. Kosher or no kosher, that’ll turn off (and away) the orthodox clientelle really fast!

Does look appetizing, though

OOoooo, it’s raining out here in the desert! I was hoping it would earlier, there were thunderheads out at sunset. It smells soooo good; late night desert rain in the summer is one of life’s pleasures (unless it’s a downpour followed by a flash flood  ). I’ve got all my windows wide open so I can hear and smell it for the remainder of the night.

I’m going to miss not being able to stay up til 4 am in the summertime. I will cherish this storm.

Dotty, can I come over for lunch? I’ll bring bacon!

Sean - I’m with Ellen - that dinner sounded yummy - sorry about that.

I’ve never read any HP, but I’ve seen the first 3 movies (on cable) and am working my way thru the 4th one (on cable) 15 minutes at a time (that’s all I can take)

Full Meal Lotus - don’t worry about matching the theme - anything goes here in the MMP. Welcome to you and to Alice the Goon. Kick off your shoes and relax. We’re fun.

I see Rigs enjoyed Hairspray as much as I did. The rest of you all are obligated to see it so we can put on an all MMP production (I say swampy should play Edna)

'Mornin, everyone. Interesting post, Sean. You need to come back in and provide details, dammit. Hell, each paragraph could have been its own MMP. You sure you didn’t use up all your ammo in one salvo?

It’s good to hear that Noor is on the road to recovery, Dotty. I had my fingers crossed for you and the fam.

Good to hear that your date went well, Hazel. Hopefully he’ll have some things that will pique your curiousity and that books and booking won’t be a source of strife. (Yes, “booking”.)

For some reason my brain hurts this morning. I may need a tune up and an oil change.

Good Mornin’, All!

Sean - Great MMP! That meal sounds repellant! Michael, Dick & Karl… — ♫ It’s a beootifuul day in the neighbord ♪ …
Roo - I like everthing from Dave Barry to Robert Heinlein to C.S. Lewis to Lillian Jackson Braun (though I could not bring m’self to read the last one; apparently, she’s terminally old and her ghostwriters’ brains are MIA…). I recently went on a P.G. Wodehouse jag, but also enjoy stuff like Sara Paretski and must confess to the guilty pleasures of Dashiel Hammett as well.
Texas has a quite large and diverse recorded book library for the blind (which I definetely qualify for), even if I can see well enuff to watch TV :shudder: (- though I love movies).
I have an Overdrive audio membership and most recently read (listened to) some Anne McCaffrey Pern books.I liked the Boo Hiss books - Well, I guess they’re more the Boo Books, but that sounds just plain weird, don’t it? I also like non-fiction, but find it almost impossible to study from an audio book: retention is poor, I fall asleep, etc… am I gettin old?
I have not joined Audible.com yet either, though I too am thinking about it. If I only had a huuuge ipod… :sternly: No smart remarks!
Glad You liked the tofu and my vest-of-holdingtm, next time i’ll include soy sauce (Og knows there’s room enough in there…).
Haze - I have some truly hideous online dating stories! Then again I finally met Mrs. HSM from an add I had cancelled a year before (but they never deleted my profile, Thank God). One Day out of the blue I got an email, shuddered, almost deleted it but out of morbid curiosity I opened it. We are coming up on our sixth anniversary and she is the best thing that ever happened to me! So hang in there.
FML -

I second that emotion.
FCM - Enjoyed the vacation thread (& pics). BTW I used ALL my GI skool bennies, fer all o’ tha good it done me…
Dotty - Glad you and Noor are better today. My fingers and toes are crossed as well.

Hope the Java Helps.
Special1 & Queenie - That HP will catch-up wit you every time.
HSM

QueenB, you are welcome any time! I think we even have some garlic bread left this time!

Okay, so that’s my pasta dish done for the week, with enough leftovers to feed any hangers-on (or alternatively, freeze for later in the week when I don’t feel like cooking! :D). Question is, what shall I do tomorrow? Hmm, maybe chicken enchiladas with a sour cream filling …

Sigh, such is the extent of my ponderings these days. It’s actually much more enjoyable than the cut and thrust of large-scale project finance that my work days would normally consist of! I luuuuurve being a stay-at-home mother, too bad I have to go back to work in a couple more months. :frowning:

Blurff. I’m another one who has trouble getting to sleep on Sunday night, and having a copy of HP7 sure as hell doesn’t help. Caffeination has commenced.

I took a call last night for a neigbor who broke his ankle playing soccer in his yard with da kiddos. LorraineTheBabe showed up with the ambulance, and she turned about a dozen shades of red when I said “Heeeellllllllooooo Nurse!”

I took my exam Saturday. I know didn’t get the 95% I was aiming for, but I’m also certain I passed. The wait for the results is already painful.

Sean, with that menu, you’re lucky you didn’t get bean sprouts and granola.

For everyone else, it’s been in the local news quite heavily that Michael Jackson is trying to buy property in Virginia Beach. Good luck to him on that; DaBeach is so uptight that I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to quash the sale or run him out of town as undesirable.

This weekend welbywife and I had a fish grillin’ party. We provided the fish and grill and sides, guests provided the beer and bellies. I hit the farmer’s market for all the veggies and spices and stuff, fresh is always best. Apparently I’ve got a knack for preparing the fish, even though I don’t eat it. One of our guests (newbie, girlfriend of a friend) asked if I was a professional chef! Le Menu at Cheateau Welby:

King Salmon steaks, grilled, with the following additives:

  1. Nothing.
  2. Nothing but a little salt and pepper, with lemon on the side for squeezin’.
  3. Fresh garlic and black pepper.

Coho Salmon Steaks, grilled, with the following additives:

  1. Nothing
  2. Lemon-garlic-olive oil mixture brushed on at grill time
  3. Oregano and spring onion (remarkably popular)

Halibut filet:

  1. Cooked in foil on the grill with fresh Thai basil from the garden and fresh garlic. This was the dish that prompted the chef question.

Also:

Oriental cole slaw
Cornbread
Corn on the Cob
New Pertaters with Dill
Sliced up tomaters and cukes
15-minute Cheesecake with fresh cherries or blueberries (or both, if you’re a greedy bastard. Were you raised in a barn???)

Those of us (me) who are sane (me) and don’t eat fish had steak instead. I was kind of glad that I was the only non-fish eater, the steak was really, really good and I didn’t have to share.

The biggest problem with the party was that I had to spend time “entertaining” my “friends” and thier “families” instead of reading Harry Potter #7. I still got it finished in 2 days, and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

That’s all I got for now, meetings most of the day.

Why, yes, I was raised in a barn, why do you ask? I’d have asked for strawberries too! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienated here. I got some runnin’ around to do this mornin’ before I spend an afternoon/evening supplyin’ the world (well, the greater southeast and a few other parts of Amurrka) with beer.

Good OP Sean. Like picu said very Vonnegutesque. Really, that’s what I thought whilst readin’ it.

FML I say don’t take the management position and keep doin’ what you’re doin’ cause that sounds like what makes you happy. I just started a job at Miller Brewing that is not management. After thirty years of bein’ whined at both on and off the job, it’s just a little slice of heaven! Not one of those beer cans has called me at home to complain.

BBBobbio I’m sure ya done good.

Dotty glad Noor is better.

BioRosie thinks I should play Edna Turnblad in the MMP production of Hairspray. I’ve either just been complimented or insulted. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry I didn’t check in yesterday afternoon. We played by the pool and such cause it was a nice warm but not incredibly humid afternoon.

Ok, off to purtify and go run errands. Later Y’all!

I thought bears were raised in caves? :dubious:

I finished HP7 right at 10 pm last night, so no insomnia for me, though Sunday is always the night I have falling asleep too. Not so much lately though - one of the ‘benefits’ of the Crazy People Doc, is that she gave me a prescription for Ambien, whiich I don’t use much honestly, but I’m telling you - I have become a Sunday Ambien addict. Knock myself out, get up with the alarm at 6, and I feel great. Like I slept through the night, such a concept.

yay for Noor feeling better at last!

My friend’s son, Luke - the 19 month old with Leukemia - he’s home, but had to spend a night in the hospital last week with a fever that wouldn’t break for anything. He’s started losing hair, and starts his second round of chemo soon (I think). I got to talk to his mom the other day, they’re overwhelmed with how friends and neighbors have come through. I sent a box of old DVD’s and books that belonged to the Daughter and a note that if she got many more of the same, feel free to donate them wherever. She said they took some of them back to the hospital where they get handed out to the other little patients.

I really DO have a lot to get done today, and am just stalling here, not doing it.

Jeez, you people are up early! Morning all, I just got into work. Have barely cracked my coffee.

Bad news: Everyone’s back from their week-long training trip this week, so you know it’s going to be a heavy work week. I actually wouldn’t mind any of these things if it weren’t for the fact that my boss is going to be back, and he’s really annoying.

Good news: I have Friday off!

I’ll be back in a bit with details of my Dopefest in NYC. Once I write them.

What is it with not sleeping on Sunday night?

My stupid cat woke me up at 4:30 scratching at the door. He didn’t persist and I was able to get back to sleep. Then hubby had a screaming nightmare at about 5:00 (that happens to him occasionally and it scares the beejeezus out of me every time) so by the time my heart stopped pounding my alarm (which was set for 5:30 so I could take my long morning walk) went off.

I walked in my new Saucony Grid Omni Walkers this morning and they were perfect, right out of the box. I was a little worried as I ordered them on line and they weren’t inexpensive.

By the time I got done with the walk and had coffee and got all dressed and ready for work I realized that I had a bit of a hangover. Too much red wine last night.

But misery does love company so I’m happy to hear that I’m not the only one that didn’t get enough sleep and feels fairly crappy today.

Happy Monday!

Well, I knew better than to ask you. . .

Hey, good morning! Apparently Teh Sick didn’t take and I’m reasonably well this morning. Hubby isn’t faring so well. There must be some tummy thing going around; my mother mentioned she had something last weekend.

I got some school shopping done for my son. Part of it was the purchase of Converse All-Stars. I was thrilled when he said he’d like some because my Inner Cheapskate went, “Yay! Canvas shoes! No expensive Nike Shocks!” Well, they weren’t as expensive as that – but they were still $39.99! At Shoe Carnival! I was totally pissed. I didn’t even look at the price, so sure was I that they’d be cheap, like $19.99 or something. I mean, come on! Apparently they’re “popular.” Whatever. On the upside, I got 20 percent off – provided I purchased another pair of shoes, which would also be marked down 20 percent. Ahem. Today I am wearing some darling little black leather kittenheel sandals. (I am totally nuts about shoes, for anyone who doesnt’ know.)

Hmpf. I’m still not over the Converse soaking.

I . . . what? This is libel! When did I ever do such a thing?

picunurse, Scribbles - stories like yours do keep me from becoming too cynical. But yeah, like some of you have mentioned, the not-reading thing might be a problem - there were so many moments yesterday when we were staring blankly when the other person mentioned an artist they liked. One of the things I think about when I meet someone new is: Could this guy hang out with my other friends and have fun? I’m not sure yet - but yeah, at this stage I’m not going to overthink it.

One thing that does bug me is his habit of sending cutesy and pointless text messages. Quite a few of my exes used to do this - I just dealt with it by ignoring them. I always thought it was a quirk of Asian guys, but apparently not.

Need more coffee ~~~~~~~~

I forgot to tell you; I “decorated” my coworker’s office on Friday. She’s been away all week. Anwyay she is as non-cutesy or girly as they come, so I filled it with stuffed animals and ribbons and tulle and beads…she’s here now but is chatting with our other coworker and hasn’t gone into her office yet… I’m waiting to see what happens when she does!

They’re Chucks , aka Chuck Taylors, aka Very Cool Shoes.

I always have at least 2 pairs of them floating around in my closet at any given time. I don’t go in for some of the new, oddball colors, but I’ve always got some basic red and a black pair lying around.

He DID get the hi-tops, right?

Oh, I forgot to mention - I think I found a new apartment. Cloud Maiden (future roomie) is currently in NYC, so her SO and I went apartment hunting yesterday. The last one we saw, we really liked. It’s in a perfect location, and it’s part of a 2-unit building with a porch and hardwood floors. Gets lots of sunlight, has two bathrooms, and a short walk away from public transit. The only problem I had was that it’s actually a 2+1 bedroom, so there’s sort of a superfluous amount of space, and the price was a bit higher than what I would have liked (and utilities not included!). But I’ve decided it’ll be worth it, and Cloud Maiden seems to approve (we sent her pictures) so hopefully I’ll call the agent today and finalize the whole thing.
