I just had a piece of Cheerwine cake. It was num. Much better than red velvet cake, it doesn’t give you that “ick, too much red food coloring” feeling afterwards.
Cheerwine cake recipe. If you don’t have access to Cheerwine, well, you’re outta luck. I pity you. It’s the best thing to ever come out of Salisbury*. Besides me, of course.
*Note: Spaz may actually come from just south of Salisbury.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN At least ‘tis Sattidy. Plans call for some yahd irk at OYKW’s place this mornin’ and then a low country boil later this afternoon. JDD and Parnter are comin’ over. They’re bringin’ dessert. Don’t know what but it’ll be good cause JDD, especially, makes good goodies.
That’s the planned excitatement in swampland today.
Morning all! I’m very glad that it’s the weekend, although I have no plans. Sending get well thoughts out to LiLi and family, and to anyone else who needs them. For anyone dealing with sore throats or sinus problems, try using saline solution–gargle for the throat and spray for sinuses. This is with a big nod of thanks to my Mom!
Home from yahd irk at OYKW’s place. In addition, there was a trip to Sam’s Club for gas and a trip to the propane place to fill up grill tanks. Now we’s at da cave all cleanded up and fed. I made some chikin sallit earlier this week so we had chikin sallit sammiches. OYKW also had chips. I didn’t cause salty snacks are my Lent give up.
We had the teevee on the Food Network. Paula Deen was on. She truly descended to the bottom depths of white trash cookin’ this mornin’. I present to y’all the horror known as TV Dinner Cupcakes.
I think I shall need to take to my sick bed with a valium and cool compresses to my forehead after witnessin’ the makin’ of that.
Oh, my! Creative, but… And added to the blog, of course, as was the Cheerwine Cake.
Hope the Lissars are getting healthy again.
Up, have been fed breakfast (huevos rancheros), have knit (am almost done with my sweater) and watched a couple of episodes of Psych with the nephew (he is going through the series again; we both like it a lot, so it’s fun).
Off to the playground then out to the garden, because the weather is great.
Hi! Crazy week and lots of travel and I get to do it again starting tomorrow!
I have read I promise I remember sick Lissars, MBD going to jail, taxi and a zombie project, bobbio settling in, nava friend getting a job, soapy getting promoted…I think.
I got home yesterday afternoon and after averaging 4 hours of sleep every night this week and crashed 7:45. But I slept for 11 hours and feel sooooo much better although that will be all over with tomorrow with having to be up at the ass crack of dawn to catch another plane and losing an hours sleep. Boooo.
Today involves not much - pedicure, quick grocery run to get some fruit then being lazy. I wouldn’t get out of my jammies but I am leaving the house. I do have some standards.
OK, you can all stop fretting - I’m here! We got back from mom’s a little bit ago and I just finished a scrambled egg sammich. **FCD **and daughter have gone to applebee’s - I just couldn’t face that place. So I’ll do some surfing, feed the fish, and maybe assume the knit position.
We left Mom’s with a clump of Naked Ladies (relax - they’re a variety of amaryllis) and some way too chocolate cake - muy yum. We had taken Cozmo and I was hoping he’d crash on the ride home, but he didn’t run around there near enough, so he was still a bit hyper in the car. He’s crashed out downstairs right now.
**BBBobbio **- The place in Leonardtown used to be the second location of Linda’s Cafe and it was really nice, tho the decor was a bit different. Then all of a sudden, Linda was gone. Apparently she and the landlord got into a major pissing contest and that was that. Too bad - Linda’s was a bit cheaper than the current place.
Anyway, just another freekin’ day in paradise here. Short night tonight - stoopit daylight saving time - and trash run tomorrow. Plus I need to do some laundry. And since we no longer have the girls to clean for us, I need to run the vacuum and clean the bathrooms. Rah. Such is life in FairyChatEstates.
I can no longer say that no one from my family has visited me since I moved to Hippy Hollow–Older Sister came by today. She was in town to take some pictures of the Flat Iron for her thesis and decided to drop off the two boxes of samoasI got from Girl Scout Niece. She texted me to tell me she left the cookies on my car, but I was able to sneak a text back to her from work to tell her to bring them to me there. And she did! Squirrel AGM snuck out from the back to pretend he needed scratch paper from the desk so he could see what she looked like. He didn’t say anything because he’s severely introverted.
It’s a good thing she didn’t leave the boxes on the car because it turns out she went to the place next door to the Building Where Spaz and the Boys Live. Someone there has the same car I have. Hippy Hollow: We all drive green Subaru Outbacks here. When I got home and ripped open the box, I found a note inside telling me the cookies were free because I did the Flat Iron research for her.
Hey all. Miss me? Been a bit busy lately, what with work, family and the Popcorn Revolution! Tried to go to work this morning, but the lazy so-and-so’s decided to stage a sit-down protest in the middle of the main highway, so the whole country is gridlocked. Came home again, to wait for the tear gas to kick in and the roads to clear. Sigh …
What did I miss?
Oh, little FYI on Question 4 up above - Germany was reunified more than 20 years ago now (3 October 1990, to be exact!).
Dotty!!! Good to see ya! I thought about you several times, but never when I was on line, and being old and losing my mind, I’d forget when I got back here…
How’ve you been? How’s the young 'un? What’s new and exciting in your life? Didja bring us presents??
According to the clock, I slept in for an hour, but in reality, Scruffy again woke me too early. I decided I’d stay up to ease the transition to work tomorrow, plus with the rest of the household sleeping, I can post in peace for a while. Except I have nothing much to share. Oh well.
With luck, I’ll get a little gardening done today. some laundry, and a trip to the convenience center to unload all the garbage and recycling. Good times! Happy Short Sunday, if you’re in a location that changes clocks today. Otherwise, Happy Regular Sunday!
Hey Mooommmmmmm! Life has been super busy since I got promoted.
And then the last month or so has been like an alternate version of reality, with the tent city set up at Pearl Roundabout (the so-called Popcorn Revolution) and almost daily rallies and protests and other sundry disruptions that bear no resemblance to the crap going on in other Middle Eastern and North African countries. Unless you’re here, it’s hard to grasp the really thin line separating normal from “state of emergency” and the knife-edge that I have kind of adapted to during the last month. I still get up every weekday morning at 5:30am and go for a run, have a shower, get dressed, take HRH to nursery school, and endeavour to go to work, but you never know what will happen after that …
The sit-down protests today have escalated into full-blown riots, with protesters running down unarmed police in their cars (one policeman dead) and blocking roads everywhere with rubbish skips and whatever they can lay hands on …
Today, I am thankful for two things - we have a fully-stocked pantry, and we live near the airport!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN I hate that it’s seven a.m. and still dark. I prefer daylight to be here no later than six-thirty but I’m old and grumpy like that.
Howdy dotty! Been thinkin’ about you. Glad everything is goin’ relatively well. Hope the ummm… disturbance ends soon and peacefully.
It’s supposed to be 78 Amurrkin for the high today. Right now it’s 43 Amurrkin out. Makes it hard to decide what to wear. It’s the first Sunday in Lent which means wearin’ purple. I have both a long sleeved and short sleeved purple shirt. Don’t know which to wear. It also means we get to do The Great Litany at the start of deheathenization. It’s sung and truthfully quite beautiful but gets a little monotonous, hence my name for it, The Great Monotony. During a part of it the congregation chants “We Beesech The To Hear Us Good Lord” over and over and over. In my haid it goes like this…
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
“We Beesech Thee To Hear Us Good Lord”
I know y’all are all anxious about my choice of shirt. I chose to go with the long sleeved purple shirt, khaki pants and a sportscoat (sportcoat?). Dashing yet Lent appropriate.
