The oddest posters

Well I can do you one better - I’ve never even heard of Hogg, but now that you bring it up I looked up the Wiki entry for it, and it looks like kiddie porn to me.

Though I suppose you could quibble with whether depictions of “a silent pre-adolescent boy (called only “cocksucker”) sold into sexual slavery to a rapist named “Hogg” Hargus, who exposes him to the most extreme acts of deviancy imaginable” count as kiddie porn - perhaps that only applies if the intent is to titillate pedophiles, while this was intended to make some artistic point? I don’t know, but if you buy into that you would actually have to read it, which is something I’m not prepared to do.

I read some of the summary in the Wikipedia entry and wish I hadn’t. I do believe that Delany was genuinely going for some artistic/socialistic objective. Other than Hogg, he’s known for some excellent SF.

OTOH, that may not be a valid dichotomy to begin with. Per the Wiki entry for Delaney:

So it sounds like he’s trying to be both at the same time, apparently believing that pornography can itself be a form of artistic expression.

If you’re odd, can you still get even?

She’s also known internet-wide for her absolute obsession with ranch dressing. She always uses the same handle on all the forums she visits, so she’s easy to spot. She is another of the ‘Beetlejuice’ type, though I see she’s been banned here. She’s very repetitive, so her act gets very old very quickly.

What about the guy you tangled with who was obsessed with proving that Jimi Hendrix was murdered!!!. Something about copious wine consumption. Oy, what a nut.

But more fun than a cask of Malmsey.

Someone up thread mentioned Jack Dean Tyler; he was insane concerning circumcision.

There was a guy who insisted anyone over 65 or so should be put in an internment camp and their belongings given to young people. He eventually threatened me and a couple of other guys with physical harm. He was banned eventually and came back under a couple of different user names. I enjoyed tormenting him but I can’t remember any of his incarnations.

Are we talking just plain ‘odd’ or outright crazy or obsessive?

Because: ‘Dry Spots’.

Are you referring to the poster who claimed to have won the James Randi million dollar challenge based on a technicality about the percentage of spots on the earth where you could drill and hit water?

I’ve only been around these parts for a little more than a year, so I missed the acquaintance of these oddballs. Wish I’d interacted with some of them.

Does anybody remember the gal who was utterly distraught that she hadn’t been invited to a fellow church member’s wedding? She was posting her woeful tale of social exclusion all over the net. Did she ever land here?

I’m not saying he was perfect. He was a human being and had flaws and failings. But, I saw him be good, kind and giving on many occasions. One time, when I was especially depressed, he and another poster sent me a wonderful book and a letter that continue to bring me joy to this day.

Yeah, she was an odd one for sure!

Apparently many people had more of a problem with that thread than I did. I read the whole thing and found it interesting. Other than that I recall Freekalette as a fairly active poster here that was often witty. My recollection is a little hazy so I can’t link any examples off the top of my head.

She still does. Her username is usually some variation of jashley, but I know there’s been others. If she’s not a really badly built bot, I will eat my house shoes. And an umbrella.

I don’t think he claimed to have won. Randi wouldn’t accept his application for obvious reasons.

Sorry, I should have phrased that more clearly. The poster claimed he deserved the million.

That guy was fucking Awesome!!

Jashley, yup, that’s her. Thanks to you, faithfool, I found the thread here:
Not invited to friends wedding at a park. - In My Humble Opinion - Straight Dope Message Board It’s worth reading, not only for jashley’s lunacy, but also for a remarkable story told by **Skammer **in the thread.

I know he was mentioned briefly already. I feel he is worth further scrutiny.

Art believed that NASA faked the moon landing. So far, just an average nut. What set Art apart and above the other kooks was that he believed that NASA created images and footage using close up pictures of ‘equipment’ like the ‘lunar rover’ and pictures of the lunar surface taken through a telescope. What’s special about that, you might ask? Art believed (and had proof) that the pictures of the lunar surface showed buildings, vehicles, aircraft and other signs of a thriving and advanced lunar civilization.

BZOOOOOOO and the time travelling space shuttle based on a Superman movie plot point was interesting. Sorry, can’t link on this old tablet
