The Office 1/4/07

My take on the jacket thing was that he lost the jacket so she could better appreciate his “manly physique” when she cried on his offered shoulder.

Oh, so many levels…

Only one apology per thread. You’ve received it. [Clark Griswold]Don’t piss me off, Red.[/Clark Griswold]

PMS= PRE-menstrual syndrome.

Haha, sorry man. I was just using it as a counter-point. No hard feelings; 'tis just a show after all.

Yes, but does Dwight know this.

The story arcs of the UK show are not spoilers.

You don’t know that this won’t be the case, and neither do I. But seeing as how they could potentially be spoilers, I think it’s safe to err on the side of caution.

They can’t even potentially be spoilers. it’s a completely different show, you see. At best, it’s just speculation. There is no need to spoiler box sheer speculation. Chefguy had nothing to apologize for. A spoiler is when you know what’s going to happen and you tell somebody. Guessing is not spoiling.

That was the beauty of the scene. Several people read it several ways.

It’s rare to get writing (or acting) like that from a sitcom.

It’s your opinion that it’s a “completley different show,” whereas it’s mine that both share strong similarites and thus, potential story arcs. As such, Chefguy wasn’t “guessing” when he retold the plot of the BBC version on which the US version is based.

Furthermore, I’d argue that throwing around spoilers for a “completley different show,” in an apparently unrelatred thread, is also poor form.

It doesn’t share any story arcs. I’ve seen the whole BBC series. There is virtually no relationship between the two shows, and my point is that trying to speculate based on the UK show is still not spoiling but guessing.

It’s a series that finished airing years ago. How long are people supposed to wait before they’re allowed to talk about it?

No one is contesting this; it can be talked about, just not without a spoiler box, imo.

Regardless, the general concensus is that the comments should have been placed in said box, and despite what you state, I base my opinion on having seen every episode of the BBC office up to the mid-part of the second season.

I have to disagree with this. The following are all similarities in storyline and have distinct counterparts in the BBC version:

Pam engaged
Jim & Pam attracted to each other
Jim’s unrequited professions of love
Pam’s splitting with Roy
Jim’s taking up with a woman from the other branch of the company
Pam’s jealousy of the relationship
Jim becoming the number two under Michael

SPOILERS! Just kidding, Chefguy

All of these similarities are very superficial and the last is off completely. David Brent (the UK version of Michael) was subordinated after the merger.

And I still say that trying to use the UK version as a template is guessing, not spoiling.

Barchetta, the UK series has been over and done with for years. Why does anything still have to be spoilered about it?

If it’s a completely autonomous series, then why would you even bring it up? It would be like me constantly bringing up past episodes of “Brideshead Revisited” in a “Grey’s Anatomy” thread.

I’m not the one who brought it up.

And if you don’t bring it up in subsequent threads it will cease to be an issue because the guy who did bring it up has apologized.

For nothing.

And boy am I pissed about it.
