It was perfectly done, when you really really want to talk but you’re not quite sure about the other person and you clumsily get off the phone and then are just left uncomfortable and like it just didn’t go quite right. And you have to resist the urge to call back and resolved the unfulfilled. Perfect.
Yeah…“Nothing. Or I would have accepted ‘snakes’.”
Also:
“Just think! That temp agency could have sent you anywhere!”
“Yeah, I think about that every day.”
I LOVED Stanley running to the elevator. Never seen him look so animated! “BOO! Go to the back of the line.” “364 days until the next Pretzel Day.”
NOT being a high-pressure salesman may be the key to Michael’s success. He knows his customers and he makes them laugh so they toss their orders his way because if they HAVE TO buy something they’d rather buy it from a friend. Paper is a commodity and one way you set your company apart is by selling yourself instead of your product. I don’t think Jan spent much, if any, time in the trenches after she got her MBA so she doesn’t understand that Michael’s method is the reason for his success.
Dwight is trying to emulate Michael and he knows the words but lacks the sort of personality to sing the tune. Jim, on the other hand, can be the next Michael Scott if he starts to leave the irony at home. Ryan needs seasoning and guidance and what Dwight (eventually) taught him will help, but his bland personality will let him make a living but never be one of the greats.
I actually thought that was great. It shows how people rationalize in order to make it through the day. Stanley’s little speech about how he comes to a job that doesn’t pay enough in order to support a family that costs too much, etc, etc - but it’s all worthwhile because of pretzel day once a year! Here is a man who hates pretty much every aspect of his life, but he finds one thing that seems completely insignificant to everyone else to keep him going. I got the impression that if the building ever stopped having pretzel day, Stanley might run amok with an Uzi.
It was really cute to see the usually-dour and grouchy Stanley actually “slip five” with Michael while waiting in the pretzel line, as they both booed Phyllis.
I agree that the Dwight storyline was a bit over the top (yhough still funny). I did, however, enjoy seeing some insight into his character. He was honestly, in his own totally bizarro way, trying to make friends with Ryan. And it kind of worked.
I thought Stanley getting super-excited about pretzel day was 100% plausible.
So what’s everyone think about the new chick (aside from the fact that she is super hot). I like her. And that dude – he kills me too, singing along to No Doubt.

My mom called just as their phone conversation began so I didn’t catch it all clearly… I guess I’ll cut her some slack since she recently had her second minor stroke in two months.
I didn’t really like how the conversation ended since it seemed like they had gotten past any ackwardness. Seems like they could have recovered from the premature “Bye”. was it the first time they had spoken shince he left?
By the way, the Cardigans scene? Look in the background. The manager is clearly and deliberately flipping off the camera as he rests his head on his hand.
I think her face is weird. (whoa… I just heard my boss use the term ‘indian giver’… lost my train of thought there)… Yeah… Umm… Her face is weird.
One thing I see getting kind of annoyed with- Pam is supposed to be normal person pretty and the show has always treated her that way, but more and more they are trying to make her TV hot. Did you see those shoes she was wearing at the end. Pam wears white Keds. She has a dundie to prove it. I can see the network making the show put Jenna through more styling and fashion shit and I don’t like it.
