Was it ever mentioned in this ep or a previous one that Oscar was single? I thought he lived with his bf. Or is this one of those “it doesn’t count if you’re in another area code/country” things?
I thought Oscar mentioned in a previous episode (last season?) that he want to break up with the boyfriend.
I just hope this doesn’t mean we’re going to see less of Daryl, because he is made of awesome. Michael will still have to go to him for advice, or Kelly will have to try to win him back when Ryan leaves her or something.
And he’s self-destructive and thrives on drama. “He’ll kill us” seemed to get him off.
I thought it was pretty clear that Marie and Michael had sex. She was very clearly hot to trot at the bar (and in the alley). When Michael left her room, at first I wondered, but then I noticed that they took pains to show us his bare feet - that to me is the director trying to make clear that they Did It, and she shoved him out the door ASAP afterward. The point of the whole plot line being that he was trying to get over Holly and psyching himself up for having fun and hooking up with other women, but then it was a letdown. Even though he scored, it wasn’t fun or fulfilling, and he was still pining for Holly (that sounds really Christmassy doesn’t it?).
I loved, loved, loved Darryl practically skipping out to his truck after the breakup text. I really want to see Kelly inflict huge amounts of pain on Ryan with her psycho-ness.
I also think it’s fun how the writers are playing with us regarding PB&J. The fakes that are quickly resolved add a tiny bit of tension, but more importantly have become their own joke in a way.
But you can’t text message break-up!
(At least it was well-written.)
I thought it was a great episode. Michael was shown in his full glory from cluelessness (business trip, flying, concierge) to great salesman (closing the deal) to anger (at his boss for transferring Holly). Andy and Oscar bonded and showed different sides of themselves when drunk. Jim and Pam are together again (good). Kelly and Ryan are together again (bad, but funny). It’s really amazing how they can have so many mini-stories going on in a 21-minute episode. Oh, I’m pretty sure that Michael got shut down by the concierge since she said she’s too tired which is code for “not tonight” if you ask any guy. No one says too tired after sex.
But he asked her “How about breakfast?”, and she replied “I’m pretty tired.” I take that as they had sex, he wanted to stay the rest of the night, but she just wanted him gone. After all, what’s the point of her inviting him to her room if they weren’t going to have sex? He’s a hotel guest - it’s not like she’s starting a relationship with him or anything.
Most of my favorite moments have been mentioned already, but another one that really pleased me was after Michael hangs up after his passionate, coherent discourse with Wallace, he goes on to say, “Why do I stay with Dunder Mifflin? It’s certainly not the paycheck.”
And there I was, lulled into a refreshing Michael’s-making-sense-for-a-change mood, waiting for him to go on to say something meaningful, and he says, “Because I could make more as a professional athlete.”
Yep. I don’t know how they manage to keep fooling me like that, but they do and I enjoy it.
I agree that the Oscar and Andy phone call was great and very well acted. And Michael in the meeting was more great acting from Steve Carell, who never misses a step IMO.
One thing about the Michael hook-up that confused me- the concierge kicked him out of her hotel room. She works at the hotel, but why would she be staying there? Or did they rent a room specifically for the nookie? And if they’re going to do that, why didn’t they just use Michael’s room- she’d be able to leave whenever she wanted. I didn’t get that.
I thought it was clear that Pam finally realized that, while she has a bit of talent, she’s never going to make it as an artist. Every time we are shown her art someone pointedly states that it’s not very good. She failed a class, but that’s not what she was crying about. She was crying because she knew that her dream would never be fulfilled. Off screen, she probably remembered what is fulfilling in her life. Next time we see her, she’s there with Jim.
I trust the writers to not do what every other show would do - ruin the show by breaking up Pam and Jim. Their chemistry is one of the best things on the show. I think the writers are just having fun pushing against the conventions of a sitcom relationship.
I agree. And they even added her opening the door a crack to put his shoes outside. Why would he have had his shoes off if they hadn’t done it?
I’m thinking - she doesn’t want to take him back to where she actually lives. She can get a free hotel room if she wants - she’s the concierge. So why not use a room so she can get some, then sleep in? If she’s in his room, she’d have to either stay, or go home when she’s done. This way she can freshen up, and be back at work in the morning with a minimum of fuss.
I also get the impression this isn’t the first time she’s slept with a guest, but I may just be making assumptions based on her “Reno 911” character.
Last night I checked the Wikipedia page to make sure a concierge really wasn’t a prostitute, and it says this:
I guess that hotel also runs like that, with the concierge living at the there.
OK I’ve watched the scene again and have changed my mind. They’ve done the deed. When the concierge puts out Michael’s shoes she was in a bathrobe which means that they were nekkid!
I have my shoes off right now, and I haven’t . . .
::checking::
. . . done it. At work at my desk today.
Something makes me think that Michael’s exactly the type to leave his shoes on.
"What, are there two suns?! [/Dwight]
I wondered the same thing. I suspect she ‘borrowed’ an empty room since she works there. As to why they didn’t use Michael’s, did he have his own room? I assumed all the DM employees were sharing a room since Oscar checked them in.
Whew. I spent the past month or so catching up on The Office and can finally talk about it!
Andy being gay? I don’t see that at all, though I haven’t seen the AV article.
