I liked it, mostly because I couldn’t get a handle on Ferrell’s character. He alternated between normal and crazy, and that kept my attention. Dwight’s revenge on Michael for not recommending him should be fun.
I was (at first) wondering if Vickers was supposed to be a nod to Liz Taylor, but my sister tells me she knew that was supposed to be his name several months ago.
And that’s what we call a “meet cute”
Where was Holly?
Maybe they’re setting us up for an episode where the new boss meets and hits on her.
They’ve got to come up with some way to get rid of him… or is there a chance that he may be back next season?
I thought it was already determined that he’s the temporary boss while a permanent replacement is being looked for.
Also, I assume with Holly leaving, Toby’s court case will conveniently be ending.
Man, who would have thought that if you put Steve & Will on the same show together, STEVE would be the more annoying one?
Is Will finally outgrowing his “scream like a little baby” phase? Oh right, Steve had that job owned and thankfully the writers didn’t want to make Will be Michael Scott 2.0.
This show might just last afterall.
It just sucks Kelly is leaving too - Kelly + glasses = haaaaaawtness
I thought it was pretty funny that the glasses didn’t have lenses (I don’t think). Seemed like something Ryan would do.
Also, what the hell, how did know one bring up Kevin’s hair. I can’t believe Angela didn’t make a single comment about it.
I watched last night on Hulu. I am a huge Office fan as well as Will Farrell but I didn’t really like it. To be fair I was doing too many things at once (computer, food, tv, etc) so I guess I probably missed some funny/important parts. Eh
We know that, but the characters don’t know that. If they thought Ferrell’s character was temporary, they wouldn’t have tried so hard to impress him.
(Unless that’s what you mean – that Ferrell is temporary, not the character.)
All his talk about the Southwest might be a setup for why he’ll leave – there’s a Dunder-Mifflin in Scottsdale.
I wasn’t aware that they didn’t know that.
Wait, which characters? Just the main characters or all the characters?
Let me re-phrase. I was under the understanding (right or wrong) that when Michael announced he was leaving, corporate brought in Deangelo as an interim manager until a permanent replacement could be found.
Are you saying that Deangelo was brought in as the permanent replacement for Michael but we know, due to the previews/commercials that he’s only going to be around for a little while? I suppose that makes sense, if Deangelo knew he was only going to be around for a few weeks/months, he wouldn’t be so concerned about making changes or how things are run. He’d probably have his own way of doing things in order to keep branches (or businesses if he’s a contractor) afloat while they hire new managers in order to disrupt as little as possible and just keep everything moving along.
Not once did I hear on the show that Deangelo was temporary. He’s set up to be permanent. That’s why Dwight is so bummed, he is going to have to start all over again as a number 2. And, that is why everyone is kissing up to the new boss.
Now, I have no idea whether or not Will Ferrell is permanent. I don’t really watch the previews, nor read the rumors about casting. I’m just talking about the actions of the characters in the show.
Okay, then it’s just something I picked up from the previews.
I think all I’ve heard was that Ferrell was signed on for the last six? episodes of the season, and everyone just took that as “he’ll just be in for the end of the season but not next season.” Which makes sense, since I can’t imagine Will getting tied down with a weekly sitcom.
But as far as the character on the show goes, he certainly seems like he’s supposed to be a permanent replacement. So if he doesn’t stick around, presumably it will be because of something that happens at the end of this season.
I dunno, the last movie he was in that really did well was Anchorman in 2004. Talledega Nights in 2006 did alright, and Megamind made a lot of money, but wasn’t really a “Will Farrel” movie. Other then that he’s had some flops that didn’t make their money back and some mediocre successes that turned a profit, but only a fraction of their original budgets.
I’d think the opportunity to branch out from his usual comedy films would probably be a good move. Dunno if the Office is really the vehicle I’d suggest, but I think he’s kinda past his prime as far as drawing people to see his usual fare is concerned.
Blades of Glory, Step Brothers and The Other Guys (which knocked out Inception) did pretty well. Nearly all of his big comedies have made more revenue than Anchorman, it’s just that Anchorman was a relatively low budget picture. The only two flops he’s really had were Semi-Pro and Land of the Lost.
Step Brothers and Other Guys doubled their budgets or worse. His earlier films made several times their original budgets. Not that everything he’s in is a flop, but I think he’s on a downwards trajectory as far as those types of movies go.
But I missed Blades of Glory which did do pretty well, so maybe I’m wrong.
I have to give this one a 5 out of 5 on the cringe-worthiness scale. There were several scenes where it got so embarassing that I just couldn’t take it anymore and I had to look away. I don’t think this has ever happened before, not even in the British version with David Brent.
I thought the thing with the ‘native American girl’ was hilarious too. Political correctness gone amok!
I think the problem i have with Will Ferrell’s character is the lack of story development. We have grown to “love” Michael Scott over the years. He has effectively grown on us over the years and personally cannot imagine the show without him. In my humble opinion, he is the keystone to the show. I feel like they are losing a member of the family
Sidenote: The way the story is written, Michael is leaving his job to go to Colorado until her father passes on. Seems to me that they wrote in an open window for a return…??
I’m not a big Will Ferrell fan, but I love the desert southwest. I got a chuckle out of his comment about how Michael should be basking in Lake Havasu.
Ferrell hinted in an interview that he was looking at this role as a long-term gig, but I think he was just kidding. The character is definitely supposed to be the new permanent replacement but I’m sure something will come up that will cause him not to work out at the end of the season.
