The Office 5.14 - Season Finale

I don’t have much to say about the episode, except that I was really excited by the last scene, becausethey were in the hospital from Scrubs!

It’s clear that Michael and Holly really are soup snakes.

Best pregnancy reveal ever!

Was there a final clip at the end? My PVR cut things off.

Yeah, pretty good episode. I thought the Michael and Holly stuff was really well done.

No

I was disappointed by the pregnancy reveal. I thought this show was above that kind of cliched, sitcom contrivance. Why would she get a pregnancy test for a leg X-Ray anyway?

Sitcom+baby almost always = shark. I hope we don’t get some contrived, wacky sitcom delivery, like having them all trapped in the warehouse or an elevator or something, then suddenly she goes go into active labor (there’s never any pre-labor on sitcoms. It’s always zero to crowning in like 4 minutes).

Really, the PB&J thing is starting to get just a little syrupy. It’s all sunshine all the time with these two. Not very realistic.

Dwight and Toby’s dopplegangers were funny, especially Toby’s.

Charles really showed his ass with the “one of your fiances” remark.

I liked Dwight a lot more this episode than I have lately. Way to show esprit de corps, and be a gentleman towards Angela. Andy was really cute looking at Erin all googly-eyed. Meredith’s outfit, inappropriate as usual.

I found the Michael/Holly stuff kind of heart breaking. I’m a little mad at her for not recognizing that Michael is her soulmate. Ah well, someday it’ll be perfect.

I totally agree. I was sort of hoping that it was a fake pregnancy, that they were super excited about being able to get back to the game. But that’d be sort of lame, too, so… I dunno. In any event, I am unsatisfied.

I missed this. What was said?

ERs always do a pregnancy test on women of child-bearing age before any kind of x-ray.

The nurse asked her very blatantly if there was a chance she was pregnant. I’m assuming Pam had them check to make sure.

Why would they ask? I guess I didn’t know it was routine. I’ve never been asked.

I din’t quite catch it exactly. Something about “playing volleyball with one of your fiances.”

Are you really surprised that you’ve never been asked if you’re pregnant before you were X-rayed? Yes, it’s standard operating procedure for them to ask a woman of childbearing age if she might be pregnant before doing an X-ray, and will test you first if you’re not sure.

“Oh, Jim. You’re putting a volleyball game in front of your fiancee’s health.”

I totally misheard that.

I thought their non verbal reactions were very realistic, and I hope they continue to show Pam & Jim as the “normal” couple in this mess of really warped people. So hopefully no “sitcom labor”, too!

My wife is (sometimes) a licensed Radiologic Tech, and if a woman is ABSOLUTELY SURE, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THE VERY **VIRGIN MARY **HERSELF (especially in front of her boyfriend), they still test. And charge for it. They need to know for sure, and to quote Gregory House, MD, “People lie.” Or don’t know.

Doing the reveal completely silently was a pleasant change from sitcom practice. As the test was pro forma, despite Pam’s claims, and a large chunk of viewers know that, it was nice to see proper hospital procedures followed after eight years of “Scrubs.”

Besides my asking, “How did Holly move beyond being a mere HR clerk if she is so clueless?” and, “Is Charles turning David into being a dick?” I have to ask, "How cool is Kate Flannery (“Meredith)?”

How dumb is Wallace? Why would anyone in his right mind tell sensitive, confidential corporate information to Michael Scott?

Also, why is it OK for Holly to be dating her co-worker at Nashua but it wasn’t OK for her to date Michael?

I think Wallace’s rationale was that Michael was the manager, and it’s less acceptable for the office manager to have an alliance with the HR rep than it is for either to be dating a regular office employee?

People at work are going to be pissed that it was the Buffalo branch got axed. We just can’t win.
