The Office and Cornell

What is up with all the Cornell references on the Office? Did one of the writers go to Cornell, or did someone not get accpeted?

The character Andy Bernard went to Cornell, and is very proud of this fact, since it’s basically his only noteworthy accomplishment in life.

I’ve always wondered if the Office and Friends had any writers in common, since both contain disparaging portraits of Cornellians.

Unpossible. All TV comedies recruit directly from Harvard.

Doesn’t seem that any of the writers went to Cornell, but apparently former NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly – who basically saved The Office by renewing it after its low-rated first season – is indeed a Cornell grad. In this interview with Reilly from the Cornell Sun, he says it could well be a tease of his Cornellian roots from the Harvard-bred writing staff.

Andy Bernard (and Ed Helms): totally dawesome.

Didn’t someone on the Dope go to Cornell and say that “Beer me this” or “Beer me that” is an actual thing they heard at Cornell.

For those of you who don’t know, Andy frequently says “Beer me” instead of “Hand me”. For example, he says, “Beer me the remote,” instead of “Hand me the remote.”

Yup - it was me, inthis thread. In my defense, in case I need one, other (non-Cornellian) Dopers were familiar with it, too.
