Here it is, folks. The Big 5 conferences are gonna all play, and a few key match-ups already took place. A few thoughts from this weekend:
First of all, regarding LSU - Miss St, how about that AIR RAAAIIIID!!! I had wondered whether or not this would be a tricky match-up for LSU. Mike Leach is an offensive wizard, and his teams almost always improve by at least 2 or 3 wins per year versus where they were in the years prior to his arrival. Typical Mike Leach football: 600 yards of offense, and see if your offense can hang with ours. And LSU’s just couldn’t. Could actually be a losing season for LSU with so many young players and having all coordinators, except Entsminger, gone, and no North Texas to beat up on this year.
Kansas State over OU. Looked like the Sooners were cruising until K State pulled off a great second half performance.
Texas escaped over T Tech, mainly thanks to an inexcusably terrible decision to sky kick a kick off with 3 minutes remaining, giving the Horns excellent field position.
Now that we can already write off LSU, OU, and Texas for title contention, the real contenders appear to be: Ohio St, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Florida. Who knows - maybe even UCF.
Thoughts?
