The official election day 2012 thread: 11/6/12

Yep, and NBC calls the solid south for Romney. No real surprise there.

obama just jumped ahead… near sweep of new england. holding on new hampshire.

Whoa, that was a big jump for Obama in Ohio.

64 to 40 electorial now. not good when you can’t bring the state you vote in or governed. gore found that out.

link to the site with updates please?

Woo hoo! Now BBC is showing Obama 56, Romney 40.

Left work early and voted in the basement of the UCC church across the street from us. Not too crowded. Our only wait was for the Board of Elections drone to find us in the big book. My wife and I got our ballots (optical scan), voted, and were out the door within ten minutes. Then my son, 16, and I did canvassing for Obama with another volunteer in a not-so-pleasant neighborhood of Cleveland for two hours until nightfall. It says something about how organized this campaign is, and how many volunteers it has, that we were going to houses that have already been visited twice today (but the residents therein had not confirmed that they’ve voted). Most folks still weren’t home, but we got a couple of “Oh, yeah, I voted!”

A apt poem for this momentous occasion: Black and White Party Attire and Hosting Tips

Does anyone even care about this anymore? It used to be that home-state advantage was a thing, but I doubt it matters more than a percentage point or two now.

Florida swung back to elephant-red. Any guesses if we’ll need a recount there?

That’s exactly what I’m doing. Got 538’s state map in one window and CNN’s states in another, watching MSNBC. So far, nothing against Nate’s map has shown up, thank the FSM.

CNN’s map has it at exactly 50/50 with 50% of the vote in! How funny!!!

Looking at a comparison of Network Calls, everyone agrees on DC going Obama.

Wasn’t that called yesterday?

What’s going on in Pennsylvania?

Looks like a long night in Florida, hoping that Ohio and Virginia will make it moot tough.

Just got info that Dade County (Miami) hasn’t been counted yet-a heavily blue area of the state.

You sure it’s Dade? There’s a significant part of Miami-Dade showing up on CNN.com. Nothing for Broward county, though, which is also pretty blue.

it is a bit more difficult to win without bringing your state with you. gore did not bring his home state with him in 2000, he would have won the election if he brought it.

romney and obama have 2 states each that they call home. mich and mass, il and hi. obama winning his home states give him 24 elec. votes. romney winning his give him 27. romney just gave obama 11 votes by not carrying the state in which he votes and was gov.

Looks like Obama is ahead again, as Dade was counted.

BBC says voting hours are being extended in Virginia. Everyone who was in line as of 7pm will be allowed to vote, no matter how long it takes. (Isn’t that standard anyway?)

They also read a message from the mayor of Miami saying the vote for Obama exceeded what it did in 2008, very much surpassing this year’s expectations. Maybe a good omen for all of Florida?

I can’t decide if drinking would make this better or worse …
