The official election day 2012 thread: 11/6/12

She did.

I’m going to do what I can to make this a meme. Right now, I’m forwarding it to my very liberal Facebook friend who loves posting these things. She’ll get it out there.

Thread specifically on this issue.

Yes, it happened to McGovern in 1972 and Gore in 2000.

Even better this time around: Romney lost his birth state (Mich.), the state where he now usually lives (N.H.), and the state that he governed (Mass.). Heheheheh.

The President’s acceptance speech, for those who missed it in the wee hours: http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_rr_7#/video/politics/2012/11/07/election-obama-victory-speech.cnn

At least he won Utah. That’s quite an accomplishment for a Republican.

The Onion:
‘I Want To Congratulate The President’ Romney Says In Final Lie Of Campaign

And a Mormon. I think this is the first time a Mormon candidate on a major party ticket for president has taken that state.

I’ve watched Karl Rove’s minor hissy fit from last night and it’s a really telling moment in terms of how this election and the analysis of the polls played out. Rove knew what he knew and he insisted Ohio couldn’t be in the bag for Obama because it just couldn’t be. And even after they’d called Ohio the reporters on the other networks went into a lot of detail explaining why they’d made the call and why they were confident in their projection. Even Fox did that. And of course, they were all right and Obama won Ohio no matter how much Rove didn’t like it. The facts don’t go away just because you stomp your feet and cross your arms and say “No! No! No!”

I improved my picture and made it a real meme. Please share with all your friends if you like it! Congratulations to Senator McConnell on his legislative victory of making Obama a one-term president!!!

You can even re-caption it yourself if you want

On the one hand, pretty much everything I hoped for came to pass. On the other, my state was once again the last one in yellow after all the others had been called. sigh

My youngest daughter was 2 in 2008 and I remember thinking how amazing it was that her first memory of the most powerful person (besides Dad of course!) in America will be of someone who looks nothing like her.

I had another daughter two years later and now they will both get to grow up with our President as a black man.

I can’t even begin to imagine what that will do to shape thier perception of race and equality. They will never truly understand what race meant in this country just a short 20 years ago. I hope they done even think of it as “race”, just that his skin is a bit darker than theirs. It’s an amazing message and means a real change for our children.

Im very optimistic for this country, truly.

This just in! (Well, I just thought of checking on it.):

7-Eleven coffee sales in the weeks leading up to the election call a 59% to 41% Obama victory!

I almost bought my wife a red Romney cup the other morning because there were twice as many of them left and I felt sorry for them. Then I realized it was silly to feel sorry for coffee cups just because they were Republican so I bought a blue Obama cup to spite their stuck-up Republican selves. That will show THEM, the entitled bastards.

i feel an emptiness today.

the phone calls everyday made me feel valued.

There-there. It’s ok. We’re only 30-some months away from the Iowa caucuses!

This is better suited for this thread than my post-Election Day thread.
The New York Times has been printing an election section in its newspapers. Most of the results, Florida notwithstanding, are in. On pages P10 and P11 of the election section there is map showing how some counties moved to the right and some counties moved to the left.

On The New York Times website, click on Shift from 2008 from the election analysis page.

Step back from the computer screen and look.

What am I supposed to be getting from this? Flyover country became even more Republican?

Look what happened in the South.

You aren’t in the ACLU by any chance are you?

Hmm, Obama means “little beach” in America too.

I’m not seeing a “shift from 2008” button.

EDIT: Oh, wait, it’s on the left. It is interesting that that Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, and parts of Georgia seem to be getting bluer.

If you squint your eyes and blur your vision, the arrows spell out “Lizard People”
