The Official Naptown Ponies Superbowl Victory Thread

After spending some time in prayer and reflection, I’ve decided this year’s Superbowl Champions are…

Drum roll, please…

Never mind, I already said it in the thread title…

The INDIANAPOLIS COLTS.

That’s right. Ferget your Eagles, your Steelers, your Patriots. This is The Year of The Manning.

I say this not as a fan. Frankly, the entire state of Indiana could be taken over by the Taliban, and I’d barely notice or care unless I needed to go from Chicago to Cleveland and had to go the long way. It doesn’t matter if you hate the big offense, mediocre defense approach to the game, or are a native Baltimorian still regretting the Colts departure from Monument City. It’s not an emotional favorite, just a gut feeling.

Who they beat, I dunno. Probably some team named for a bird of prey, and not one especially known for its love of fish. If you expect anyone else in the NFC to go to the big dance, you need to take your meds.

vikes

Do myou know what the difference is between a true fan (me) and you?

I started my thread months ago at the risk of ignominious defeat and disgrace. Your thread is what we call “bandwagon”, because it’s easy to do now that the playoffs are about to start and your team is in it. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to find that all of your Colts attire either still has tags on it or are very recently purchased, whereas my Steelers stuff is in tatters, as any true fan’s stuff should be.

That’s all right, though. I expect this to last no more than two weeks. Mine still has nearly a month to go.

Oh, even better. I missed the part about how “you don’t care”. Yes you do. You cared enough to start this when you knew that it was gonna bring me in here with both barrels.

OK, I took the bait. I admit it. I think you’ll find that this thread will be short-lived, though. Like around 4 pm this afternoon short-lived.

Trick question. I’m not a fan at all. But do continue. “I’m a bigger fan than you” discussions always amuse me. It’s fun to see grown men turn into Junior High School girls talking about who REALLY loves Justin Timberlake.

Yes, because I’m sure the consequences would be severe for making a wrong pick. What will happen if you’re wrong? Since you thread is the second annual, may I enquire what happened last year when your Steelers failed to take home the Lombardi trophy? Did you lose your posting privileges? Did Patriots fans leave bags of flaming poo on your doorstep?

Wait a second, there’s another…

I did parody your thread title, and hope to generate some fresh football talk. I didn’t do it to annoy you, especially, I just wanted some smack talk going into the playoffs.

I see you’ve shortened the Colts season by two weeks in the gap of one post. One wonders how they’ll be eliminated a full day before they play…

Why should cricetus care about what happens half an hour before the Rams-Seahawks game? (Colts are scheduled to win - er, sorry, play - tomorrow.)

By the way, cricetus, why you mention “expecting anyone else in the NFC” to go is beyond me since the Colts are in the AFC. I’m afraid the folks at The Indianapolis Colts Fan Club consider this one of very few unforgivable sins.

I said, with annotation, “Who they [the Colts] beat [in the Superbowl], I dunno. Probably some team [the NFC representative] named for a bird of prey, and not one especially known for its love of fish [i.e., Eagles or Falcons]. If you expect anyone else in the NFC to go to the big dance, you need to take your meds.”

A true football fan? You? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! When it comes to football you’re nothing but a loudmouth moron with a platform. You could give a rats ass about the game of football, all you care about is beating your chest and screaming “STEELERS” as loud and obnoxiously as you can to make yourself feel like a big man.
A true football fan? Maybe when you grow up.

Is that because they miss the days when the Colts were an NFL (as opposed to AFL, pre-merger) team?

Unfortunately, the team that was in the NFL was the Baltimore Colts, not the Indy version.

No, it’s mostly because the NFC as a whole is demonstrably inferior to the AFC. Also there’s a tiny bit of it that’s consternation at getting a team’s conference wrong. The Indianapolis Colts are not an NFC team.

Nah. Win or lose, I do enjoy watching a good football game. I enjoy talking smack, too. They go hand in hand.

What makes you think that I don’t enjoy the game?

I misread your post as meaning that the Sin was the Colts being in the AFC, not saying they were in the NFC (which, you should note, I did not do). I even know that the Colts are a “South” team, as opposed to Baltimore, which is “North.” Go figger.

Unfortunate for whom?

Watching the game Airman? Airman? Airman?

I couldn’t give two tugs of a dead dog’s cock about football.

Go Rams.

All I have to say is if the Colts do well, my domestic tranquility will suffer. I’m a native Hoosier, living with a guy who lived in Baltimore when the Colts snuck out in the middle of the night, and he’s never forgiven them.

And I rub his face in it every chance I get, now that the Colts don’t suck anymore. :stuck_out_tongue: Such fun.

Yep. I was expecting the stereotypical Peyton choke, but he actually delivered. Imagine that.

Yeah, I guess those 49 TD passes this past regular season weren’t a fluke.
