Well now, Dave. . .
Having met Cosmopolitan at the NYFest in January, I can attest that she’s a dish. Sure, no problem.
But an “adult side dish?” Why, the noive! If I was Cosmo, I’d slug ya.

You know what I meant. Sheesh, everyone’s a comedian…
By the way, Sue Duhnym hasn’t shown up in this thread…
Someone send her a heads-up, willya? She promised the homemade baked beans.
Dave, as I said - it was her idea. I said, “There will be ribs for everyone,” and she was just like, “Whatever.”
You want to give me a better idea?
Something easy. So she can actually make it?
Don’t forget, I’m not going to force anyone to actually make something if they are culinarily impaired, or too busy, or whatever. We may be a little light on green salad, as things stand right now. Or we could use maybe four or five loaves of Italian bread. So far, only Zyada has committed to breadage, and she’s still on the “Definite Maybe” list (but looking good).
Just a couple suggestions.
This just in:
We’re going to be hosting a brunch-type thing on Sunday morning, for people who are staying overnight. Nothing fancy, just bagels, cream cheese, lox, coffee cake, coffee and juice.
Anyone who needs accommodations, I’m going to be looking into one or two hotels nearby, and assessing prices, so you can make reservations. So please let me know if you’ll need a room for Saturday.
We just found a Days Inn in Nanuet that has rooms for about $70 a night. That’s workable for us, so we’re already planning on staying over instead of driving the 3 hours back at night.
And I’m looking in to flying out of either Newark or an NYC airport, instead of flying out of Providence (oops…excuse me, that’s WARWICK…;)). Flying out of Rhode Island on Sunday would make the brunch absolutely not doable. Another plus is that it’s cheaper.
Thnks for living so close to so many airports, Dave! I appreciate it.

Persephone, if you can manage it, fly out of Newark. Sooooo much easier to get to than the other airports, at least from this venue.
For the benefit of the others who need overnight lodging, I was going to suggest the Days Inn anyway, if prices panned out. It’s extremely close to my house, and incredibly easy to get to.
Thanks for doing the legwork on that one, Euty. I assume you can access them from the internet. Any problems, give me a holler and I’ll see what I can do from the ground.
Man, I cannot wait for this. In fact, I cannot wait so mcu, how about a “pre-Dope-Visit” type thing within the next two months where we just do our own, Dave?
You know the Missus and I would like the opportunity to just sit down and chat with you without dealing without 30 other people.
And you could forget about baking cookies in the heat of NY summer!
Gorgon Heap, I see that as completely doable. Dunno when, exactly, but we’ll work on it. Yes…completely doable.
And I have every faith that when I mention it to my better half, she’ll jump on it in a heartbeat.
I’ll be in touch, my man. Definitely.
YAY!
Alas!
I would walk a mile for bbq ribs. Unfortunately, I would have to walk about 300 miles on the date in question, because I’ll be at my best friend’s wedding.
I think this is why I resisted actually reading the thread until today: I just knew that somehow I’d be unable to go and it would leave me sad. And also hungry. Mmmmm. Ribs.
Add manhattan and me to the list. Our contribution: probably an assortment of cheese, maybe with accompanying stuff like crackers/bread.
I’ll email ya for driving directions. Yay!
Persephone–I know us east coasters have a pretty confined sense of distance compared to the rest of the country, but Providence/Warwick/whatever is about 3 hours from the ribs! …some closer alternatives to TFGreen you might check out are Westchester, even Hartford would be closer to Daves than Green, and what is that one further up on the west side of the river…Stewart? (Dave, help me out here!) Newark’s the closest, Westchester is the closest smaller airport.
Bill
But Bill, they’ll be overnighting Saturday in Nanuet, then coming to my house for the brunch on Sunday.
I suggest LaGuardia, actually, since it’s no farther than Newark from the Pearl, and then Euty can hop on I-95 right off the Whitestone. Much better for him than having to backtrack through the Hudson Valley from Newark.
Grandfather Trout, as they say in Berlin, “Das ist ein bummer.” If this is a success, though, we may try it again another time. I wouldn’t want to deprive you of ribs.
canby, hooray! You and manhattan gracing the grounds of Casa Dave-Guy! Excellent. You’ll need directions from the Village, I assume? Or Long Island? Email me.
Here I am! I’ll commit to Baked Beans and I’ll make something else when I can figure out what else is needed. Possibly dip and veggies, some appetizers or a cake.
Two adults, one 4 year old. Three folding chairs.
Cosmo, if you’re willing to abide by the whims of a small child, I can shuttle you back and forth. I have an SUV in the city so won’t have a problem fitting a chair in the back.
Yay! I knew you wouldn’t let me down, Sue!
And if you can get Cosmo here, you’ll be a real hero!
Aha! I’ve been waiting til this thread fell so I could bump it up. I finally found it to be buried several pages down.
Add me to the list of pretty darn likelies, culinary contribution to be determined. I may need to bum a ride from the City, or perhaps convince my sister, brother-in-law and nephew that they should come and ride up with them.
