Nah, we’d just be over confident in our title match up against Penn State or USC or whoever that puts in the driver’s seat.
Edit: would that open up the BCS game for the odd-man out (Texas or Oklahoma) if the other loses to Missouri in the Big 12 championship?
My brother holds the same theory. My dad and I disagree because you’re just arbitrarily throwing TTech out of it.
My take is this: IF Oklahoma had won it close (like the other 2 games were), then it would have been a dead heat. Since they blew TT away, they get the edge.
Nah, just because we know that the SEC team will win doesn’t mean that we don’t enjoy watching it.
I agree with you but I’m a homer. Someone on another board put it "If you take into account the quality of the loss (UT losing on the last play), you should take into account the quality of the win (OU spanking TT).
Sounds like Moevao is out this weekend for Civil War, but the word from a guy I know down there is that Quizz will be in. He had a “Grade 2”??? shoulder seperation, but he wants to play and they say he probably can.
The Penn St. vs. OSU Rose Bowl game is not the mathcup I would hope for, but just to get there will make it worth the 2k the trip will end up costing me.
I might be the only one, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a Rose Bowl rematch Penn St v Oregon St. I think the Beavs would get them the second time around, if the boys all stay healthy.
Plus, that would pretty much insure 2 Pac-10 teams in BCS bowls (SC has got to go somewhere!), giving the whole conference a bump and more money!
And since I ain’t planning on going to see SC anyway, let them go somewhere far away and spank someone more exciting than Penn St. But that would be fun to watch also.
Also, Man! Did enjoy watching Notre Dame lose last weekend! Gave me a chubby, that did!
Well, Quizz is an very very doubtful “doubtful”. Apparently the seperation was worse than they first thought.
In addition, Moevao will practice tommorow and then they’ll make a decision on the starter at QB.
While I still believe that anything can happen, and that the Fly Sweep is apparently the play we can run 20 times a game and get yardage 16 of the 20, I’m not confident. That’s for sure.
I’ll be up real early Saturday for the drive down… think we’ll tailgate in the intramural field if anyone else is there. I’ll be the guy in the orange shirt.
** whatami** Where are you from, and who are you for? (I’m not getting your references. I don’t know the names “Moevao” and “Quizz”)
Apparently he’s talking about Oregon State.
Oregon State Beavers (soon to be Pac-10 champs
)
Moevao is their starting QB who was injured and missed last game. “Quizz” is the nickname for Jaquizz Rodgers- their starting RB who got injured very early in their last game and missed the rest of the game.
Jaquizz is the real loss- I just came in to see if there was an update since I first read here that he was going to try to go- then on the news that he was 'Very Doubtful" According to Riley. (Mike Riley- Head Coach)
It will still be a good game though. What the Ducks have managed to do with their revolving door at QB is pretty impressive. I wonder what they could have done had they had some stability there. But home teams have seemed to have the edge lately (last year excepted!), but we shall see. I hope Moevao can play- Canfield makes me nervous.
Sorry, looks like The Tof clarified for me.
Yes, I’m in Portland, heading down to Corvallis for what should be a good game. Either team has the opportunity to win and the Ducks have something to play for in the possibility to knock us out of the Rose Bowl.
Suprised you haven’t heard Quizz’s nickname though. He’s the Pac-10 leading rusher (and missed a game already) and broke the Freshman Rush record for the PAc-10.
And FWIW, the rivalry game between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks ("the Civil War’) is one of the oldest rivalry games in the country. betcha didn’t know that.
112 years and running strong! The talking heads on the radio have been talking about how it’s only the 2nd time the teams have met when both have been ranked in the top 25.
From this article ( http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=882309 ) we get this opinion:
(emphasis mine)
So what he’s saying is that if OU had won a close game against TT, then it would be a 3-way tie. But because OU beat TT badly, OU is out of it.
[And, no, I don’t think that this situation would be made better with a playoff. Let’s say we had a playoff system, and in the first round OU lost to TT by 2 points in triple overtime. Would that really clear up the situation?]
Um, head to head record may not matter if the big 12 south ends in a THREE WAY TIE; which is entirely possible. Texas, TT, and OU will all have one loss. The rules change in that instance by using the following tie breakers:
The records of the three teams against each other will be compared.
The records of the three teams within their division will be compared.
The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5 and 6).
The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
The highest-ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular-season conference play shall be the representative.
The team with the best overall winning percentage (excluding exempted games) shall be the representative.
The representative will be chosen by draw.
In other words, BCS ranking may choose who goes to the big 12 championship game.
Yes, of course it would.
Tomorrow marks the 112th meeting of the Oregon State University Beavers (formerly Oregon Agricultural College) and the University of Oregon Ducks, one of the oldest college football rivalries in the country.
(obligatory wikipedia link) Oregon–Oregon State football rivalry - Wikipedia
The game marks the second time that the two teams have met with both teams ranked in the top 25.
The Beavs are playing for a spot as the Pac-10 champions and a berth in the Rose Bowl.
I have my ticket in hand (they’re going for $150-$250 on Craigslist) and we’ll be starting the caravan early. I’ll rise at my normal time, around 5:00, and shower to head over to a friend’s house for mimosas and the drive down. It’s about an hour, hour fifteen to get to corn valley and it’s a trip we make quite a bit. The BBQ is set up on the rugby field already with a friend. The beer is on ice, and the mini bottles are securely hidden to take inside Reser Stadium (yes, it’s named after the burrito/salsa company).
This is, without a doubt, the biggest game for the Beavers in modern history. Bigger than the Fiesta bowl from 2001. Bigger than any win over USC (even though we had to do that to get to this point), and bigger than the back to back College World Series Championships our baseball team won.
I’m asking, not for hate against the Ducks, because I root for them 364 days a year. I’m asking, that if you happen to get the game on TV, or happen to see the highlights, or maybe, just maybe, you’re listening to it on the radio… root for the Beavs. If for no other reason, than a win by them, with a few other losses (Florida, Oklahoma, etc.) will result in a BCS clusterfuck that could end with 2 teams in the National Championship that did not win their own division.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO…SSSSSSSSSSSSS…UUUUUUUUUUU
OREGON STATE, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!
ROLL STATE!
An interesting game tonight. Arizona State scores 4 defensive touchdowns on UCLA.
I also think Lane Kiffin is very glad he got fired in the middle of the season.
USC, please beat Notre Dame by 100 points to make sure Notre Dame would be too embarassed to accept a bowl bid.
Two talking heads on CBS were just discussing the resignation (now confirmed) of an African-American head coach at Mississippi State, and how that leaves only two others… but they forgot Randy Shannon at the U. of Miami!
Expect a correction on that oversight after the commercial break…
