The Orville Season 2

I’m imagining a scene where Malloy and Lamarr are trying to explain the humor in a “Family Guy” episode to Bortus. Especially if it involves a vignette that requires an understanding of Earth culture from the 21st century or earlier.

Exactly- I liked the MACO idea, even if they didn’t just detail Reed and his crew to go do stuff.

I actually think it could be MORE interesting from a dramatic and storytelling point of view if they did just that- Mercer tells Kiyali to go get someone/some thing on the planet, and we see the whole thing happen from the bridge crew’s perspective, complete with incomplete communication, suspense, etc… More of a situation of letting the viewer’s mind fill in the gaps, rather than writing out a longer scene where everyone schleps it down to the surface.

giant chicken - would pay to see that.

Loving the show so far, and surprised this episode went this far into dark themes. BUT it is true that since the first mention that Isaac is “studying biologicals” and “sending reports,” every time those behaviors were mentioned throughout the series, I’ve mumbled “Studying why? Sending reports for what purpose? Doesn’t this alarm the Orville’s officers?” My poor wife just nods each time at the interruptions.

Imagine where this will leave Ed’s career prospects. Resume bullets:

No problem, who’s going to read it?

he sings on American Dad too

As would I, but I doubt they have the guts. I’d say there’s three chances in four we’ll discover tonight that Isaac was playing against his fellow Kaylons all along; upon returning, probably at some point in the deactivation/reactivation process, he learned about the Kaylon plan to attack Earth. He decided, based on some Isaacish robot logic, that he must stop it, but in order to do so he had to play along lest his treason be discovered by the Kaylons. He’ll step up in the nick of time to help stop the attack, and then in an expository speech, reveal he had been plotting to avert the attack all along.

You are probably correct, but I’d like to see him killed off or become a returning antagonist.

I want to see a moclan divorce.

We already have.

I can’t see how they can stop this attack, and hold off the Kaylons longer term, whether they keep the Isaac character or not. How can Issac stop the attack?

I hope it’s not some simulation or test or dream, that would be a real copout.

There was Chekov’s Shutdown.

Issac;s deactivation was in the script so we will know why all the robots fall down.

Meaning what?

I agree; it would be a neat twist to see the crew of the Orville have to basically kill Isaac to save Earth, much like the original plan in “I, Borg” would have gone, had they not lost their balls on the Enterprise.

He’s saying they set a precedent where Kaylons can be remotely deactivated, which they could then use to shut down all the Kaylons involved in the hostility towards Earth in some way.

Also known as telling the Borg to go to sleep.

Author Chekov said about plays, “Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.”
They spent expensive screen time showing Issac deactivated, so that will be seen again in the next episode. All the bad guys will be shut down, or Issac will be deactivated again.

Not between Finn and Isaac.

Why didn’t the blob bring more weapons?
