The Pay-It-Forward MMP

I picked up the car at the mechanic’s this morning, and I have to drag my buttocks off to the job office soon to get something or other sorted out.

The Creepy Holidays-The Mensch on a Bench.

I’m hoping that storm eases a bit before it reaches me in the Central Valley, but forecasts aren’t thinking that’s going to happen. Local news has spent several days now freaking out about it already.

Waiting for the twain this morning when a woman puts down her shoulder bag, starts pulling things out one by one & cleaning them off. Her yogurt container got crushed & went BLORP inside her bag. She pulls out a quart sized zip local bag with a bananananana inside & wipes it off. Next she pulls out an *empty * quart sized zip local bag & wipes that off. I couldn’t help but snerk thinking if she put her yogurt IN one of the quart sized zip local baggies she wouldn’t be standing there doing clean-up triage. :smack:

Given her bananananana was in one, it’s not like the thought of putting fragile food in a protective baggie didn’t cross her mind, & the fact that she was cleaning off an empty bag (as opposed to just throwing it out) means she had one with her to encase said yogurt container in to prevent said clean-up in case of said explosion.

Swampy, is she one of your program participants?

Happy Thorsday!

It’s 1 degree above freezing. I’m glad I don’t have to go out today.

Welcome back BooFae!

I hope you feel better today Butters

I hope y’all survive the storm Gotti and Nettie

I think I have all of my Christmas shopping done. Except for a bottle of wine for my niece. Amazon won’t ship alcohol to MD.
I had everything delivered to my mothers since that is where we are celebrating this year.
The HFH will be there for breakfast, Sah-son and I will go for lunch.
I guess my nieces will hang around until we get there.

I still have to wrap everything.
I just love wrapping presents

Guess I’m getting old, this holiday stuff is stress, not fun.

I’m going to call the doctor today and ask if I can postpone all my tests until after the holidays. Between the holidays, finishing up moving and all the other crap going on I am feeling overwhelmed with things I have to do. It doesn’t help that irk is so slow that I can’t get by with working 35-40 hours a week anymore.

Back from grocerying. I stopped in a local chain that I used to patronize, just to look around (and get their seafood spread, because it’s quite yum!) Holy crap on a cracker, have their prices gone up!! And not just a few pennies.

One item I can get at Food Lion for $1.79 costs $2.39 at McKays! And this is the generic! Even the impulse buys at the checkouts - there was a Snickers bar for $1.99!!! For a single candy bar?? Yep, I won’t be shopping there again unless I want the seafood spread. So I went over to Food Lion (which is maybe a block away) and got some frozen veggies and the sodas that are on sale. I wanted some snow crab legs that they had advertised, but I didn’t see any. Either they hadn’t put them out yet, or their ad is a lie. I’ll call later and ask. Meanwhile, I’ll now need to rethink supper.

It’s so very very hard to be me… <pose of woe and despair>

It warms the cockles of my heart that Google helpfully suggests ugly Kwanzaa sweaters for you. All-inclusive butt-ugly kitsch for everyone!
“Doesn’t that just warm the cockles of your heart?”
“Warms the shit out of my cockles. My cockles are burning.”
- Big Trouble

First of all, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are two completely different holidays! Secondly, when I googled “ugly kwanzaa sweaters”, I got mostly Ugly Christmas Sweaters and a few Ugly Hanukkah ones. Apparently, those who celebrate Kwanzaa have more taste than the rest of us.

I have 6 tabs open in Chrome and 18 in IE here on my work computer at the moment.

Send help. I need a Tab intervention.

The good news is I called the doctor to see if I could postpone my surgery for a bit and I heard that the absolute soonest I would be having surgery will be the end of January anyway. Maybe not until February.
The bad news is that I may not be able to drive for 3 weeks.

I’m going to see if I an reschedule my stress test for January as well.

Market Basket, last week, Hood eggnog half gallon: $3.49

Stop & Shop this week, same thing, $5.79

Somebody got some 'splainin to do!

Never fear!

Tabbed browsing was invented by the KGB.

Just say no.

Wanna trade? My other screen is filled with a 4100 line, 105 tab spreadsheet.

So far, our neighbors’ decor is a bit shaken and stirred, but the promised thunderboomers and howling winds have not arrived yet.

I got an email saying the glasses I’d ordered were shipped on Dec 2, and it included a tracking number. Every time I checked the FEDEX site, it said my package was in transit and would arrive Dec 11 - that would be today.

I just now checked it - the package left West Virginia this morning. FEDEX says I’ll get it on Tuesday. Now, this past Monday, I mailed a package to Utah via 1st class mail and it arrived on Weds - 2 days via USPS, a much-maligned organization. Meanwhile, a world-wide package delivery company apparently needs 2 full weeks to move a package from California to Maryland. Seriously?

I guess it’s a good thing this wasn’t to be a gift that would have to be sent somewhere far away by Christmas. So, what are the chances it will arrive completely unbroken? Any guessees?

The Migraine From Hell is gone, yay!

It’s snowing outside. It looks like a snow globe, and is very pretty when I look out the wall of windows at my office.

However, this means the drive home will suck. Lots. I may leave early and log in for a few hours from home to avoid traffic.

Emily, I’m glad you enjoyed your card.

gotti and nettie, stay dry!

Mooom, stockings on the mantel aren’t just practical, they’re an early preparation for Santa!

I was delayed a few minutes on the way to irk this morning. There was a bad accident on the parkway that totally shut down the westbound lanes and had us on the eastbound side all merging to the shoulder for about half a mile. The smoke from the vehicle fires could be seen five miles away. Other than that, it’s been a calm, but productive day.

No more snow. Mister Sun did his job well today.

Not only is my givadammer still AWOL, but I also have a case of Teh Sick.

Pretty sure that whatever is making my guts rumble and do the Technicolor Yawn is not contagious (no fever), but rather related to my liver problems. Regardless, I still feel like shit.

I always consider it a triumph when I decide what we’ll be having for supper. Today will be teriyaki poke chops, steamed rice, and tempura veggies - mushrooms, sweet potato slices, broccoli, onions. With peach cobbler for dessert. Yum!
