The Politics Free Thread (or MPSIMS part 14 or 15)

I look at the board and I see a lot of threads on the American election. This isn’t one of them. Please feel free to post whatever you want, as long as it isn’t politial.

I’ll start. We are slowly digging out from our third major snow storm of the past week. I didn’t get stuck last night although I thought I might. I went for a walk down a trail and deer had been here before me. they had crapped on the sonw. The trail of feces ran for a good 6 feet. Why did that happen?

Ah…thank God. I needed this. Well, what’s new with me? I’ve got play practice till 10:30 tonight, then our first show tomorrow night, then another friday, then saturday, then I’m done. It should be great.

Kudos on this thread, Odieman.:slight_smile:

Another election-free alternative

So… seen any good movies lately?

Hubby is heading out of town tonight till Friday. Daughter has a district swim meet tomorrow. I’ll be home alone without adult supervision and the computer and remote will be MINE!!! So, I predict a dinner of ice cream and an evening of chatting on line till I have to pick up the kid at 11 or so…

<happy dance>

I love my hubby, but I cherish the occasional evenings of solitude. :slight_smile:

I almost started one, too.

So, I’m at work this morning and a client walks in. I’ve known him for 2 years, haven’t seen him for about 6 months and I take one look at him and ask “ok, so how long have you been sober?” (meaning he’s been drugging again recently). he was surprised (I’ve NEVER asked him that before), he grudgingly says “3 days” (I’m thinking more like 3 hours, but…)

He’s all surprised that I can tell. Geez. I’ve done this for 20+ years (and 14 years of it were residential setting…)

oh well.

Yeah, actually, I have. I watched “Being John Malkovich” on Saturday, and sat in awe of its hilarity. Had to leave before it ended, though, so if anybody spoils it in this thread I’ll be forced to rip out their throat and choke them with it…
<ahem>
Sorry, tension. I think I’ll take that drink now, dpr.

I live in the sticks and we tend to get movies a bit later then the real world. The last one I saw was “Almost Famous”. I’d give it a hearty recommendation. If you have any interest in music or if you just like a good movie go see it. I’ve heard from people who know Jann Wenner and I guess he is as pompous and prententious in real life as he is portrayed in the move. And Lester Bangs character is bang on too. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is quickly establishing himself as a great character actor. He should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor last year for his brilliant portrayal of Freddie in “The Talented Mr Ripley”. He was the best thing in the movie IMHO.

It WAS a great little flick Jester. Wickedly different. Make sure you see the ending though. That bit where Bruce Willis saves the worl… um…
gives Jester a double

::walks into room, toweling off hair::
Aaaahhhh! Much better. I got caught in the mudslinging in a couple of threads and really needed a shower. The bathroom is immaculate if anyone else needs to clean off.

Not much planned for me. Roommate is off the road for a few days, so we have tickets for the theatre tonight - “The Complete History of America (abridged)”. Then camping this weekend. Just us and a few hundred mosquitos, snakes and scorpions.

Movies? Finally got to watch “The Matrix” last night. Definitely picking up a DVD player. I prefer widescreen, none of this “formatted to fit your screen” stuff.

I bought the “Malkovich” movie - haven’t seen it yet, so no fear about spoilers from me. Jester.

[sub]:Note to self - do not hit submit before fishing thought:[/sub]

As I was saying before I rudely interrupted myself…
Jester, what play are you in and what part?

Jester I’m not acting in a play right now, but I am co-directing one. It takes place next weekend and I will be so glad when it’s over, it’s cutting into my chat time. [director’s mode] Damn actors :wink: [/directors mode]

::does a little happy dance::

It snowed!!! WOO!!! :smiley: (Don’t tell sandyr. :slight_smile: ) Not much, and I’m hoping for a lot more, but this is definitely a start.

We got Rain! Lotsa rain. I think we are still behind on our totals, but every bit helps. More planned today.

Oh yeah, and the City of Jackson is moving on my claim form finally. Hopefully they’ll pay for it.

Well, the play is “Twelfth Night”, by the man hisself, and it’s your typical high-schoolish production. Tons of fun, I’m the priest, which is one of the smaller roles, so I have time to sit back and watch the production go by.

“Damn actors?!” Well, I’m gonna be directing a one-act play this spring, per the drama teacher’s request, so I guess I’ll see things from your perspective soon enough.

Jester - I loved “Twelfth Night” - the local Shakespeare company did that two years ago, tropical (Key West/Caribbean/Bermuda) setting - Ilyrian houses with lots of pastel pinks and blues, potted palms, Feste in long pony-tail and ragged tie-dye, like he showed up for spring break years before and never left (trust me, I did the tie-dye work), the priest wore an open robe with Bermuda shorts and tropical shirt underneath, the Dukie’s attendants were the local police force, all the songs in reggae, and Malvolio’s yellow stockings and cross-garters, well, yeah, he had the yellow stockings and the cross-garters were attached to studded leather briefs with leather chest-straps, but very tastefully done - very Key West-ish. It was one of the more popular shows.
Break a leg. :wink:

We’re getting pissy, nasty, cold rain here. I’m stuck at home, because there’s no way I’d take the baby out in this kind of weather. Thanks for the haven that is free of…you know. Think I’ll stay a while. Anyone want some real homemade hot cocoa? I’ll whip up a whole bunch of it, if Odieman doesn’t mind me crashing around in his kitchen.:wink:

Feel free Tabithina, as long as you don’t put any marshmallows in mine.

No cocoa, thanks [sub](it’s 80 degrees outside!)[/sub]; I’ll just have some ice tea.
Odieman - what play are you directing? And isn’t co-directing difficult? I mean, conflicting artistic interpretations could be a real sticking point.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Odieman for starting this thread.

What’s new with me?

I think my cat might have asthma, but I don’t have the $$ to take her to the vet right no.
The temp agency couldn’t find me any work this week BUT I have some really good leads on permanent jobs and I was able to pay my rent, bills, etc. on time.
I paid off one of my student loans in full last month, got the confirmation yesterday. :D! There is still a huge one to go, but it makes me feel a huge sense of accomplishement.

I’m slowly making progress with guitar lessons, and I made a very cool new friend here in Chi-town last week.

There are ups, there are downs.

I LOVE Twelfth Night, btw.
