The Pony Express MMP

The modern version of the Pony Express: Yesterday I met a guy from DE in PA to take something to NJ for a guy in OH.
Some people have been involved in dog rescues from the South, handing off to multiple drivers along the way.

Today’s pre-[Del]hijack[/Del] horse-theivery question: what type of multi-state Pony Express-type handoff have you be end involved in? No, buying products from a retailer, who got them from a wholesaler’s distribution center, who bought them from a manufacturer doesn’t count; personal, noncommercial versions only.

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 and clear for the day. This mornin’ I shall go over to the church house for Morning Prayer at eight a.m. We’re doin’ a series of prayer services for the nation that started with Evening Prayer last night, Morning Prayer today, Noonday, Evening Prayer tonight, Morning Prayer and Noonday tomorrow. Neat services that don’t last long. I shall lead tonight’s Evening Prayer.

Spidey cool! Never done anything like that but I like the idea especially since it was a doggie rescue.

OK I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I should purtify so as to be seen in the public.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

It’s amazing how much more you can accomplish if you don’t shower in the morning.

Fear not - I showered last night. I’m not a total slob.

Plus **FCD **got up early, tended to the dog, and scooped the cat box, so there went half of my morning chores! I had tons of time to empty the dishwasher and pack my lunch. As a result, I got to the office earlier than normal. That could make for a long day…

It was weird driving in with a little more light, but I know it won’t last. That’s the bad part of fall/winter - too much dark. Oh well…

Happy Moanday, anyway.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Closing shift tonight.

I’ve never done a Pony Express type thing. Gordie does weird and unnatural things to his pink pony, does that count?

The closest to Pony Expressing I’ve ever come is taking something from my mother to give to my daughter since they live 900 miles apart. Not what **Spidey **is looking for, I’m sure.

Meanwhile, lalalalalalala - I’m doing something that has the drafting program occupied, potentially for hours. Thank goodness I can surf in the meantime…

I haven’t Pony Expressed, but I’ve had a Venezuelan coworker in the US ask me to bring a bottle of Nenuco baby cologne for his wife, as I was going back to Spain for the holidays.

One of my cousins used to make money by flying to the US, purchasing a vintage or luxury car (the purchase was pre-agreed) under his name, importing it to Spain and reselling it to the real buyer.

A friend used to make money when he was in Ireland or in the US by purchasing record player needles in Spain and reselling them.

Not a doggy rescue, a propane tank delivery, but the guy from DE brought his cocker spaniel along for the ride.

Yup, that counts.
P.S. That 6-withdrawal a month thing; it’s Reg D, a Federal Reserve Bank rule, which I believe applies to CU’s too.

Afternoon, mumpers!

I haven’t exactly done the pony express thing but I did have something delivered to my house in central England that I packed up and took to my friends in rural Hungary. They have trouble with deliveries because they live in quite an isolated village and the postie often fails to find them. Or he likes the look of what they’ve ordered and it mysteriously never arrives.

This particular order was something for their Ikea kitchen that they couldn’t get in Hungary so I ferried it over from home.

Other than that, nothing really. I am doing NaNoWriMo and my brain is either fried or empty.

blurf

The closest I’ve come to a pony express thing - in '98, at a convention in Cincinnati, I borrowed a dress from a friend in attendance. She lives in Binghamton NY. She left the con before I did, and I hadn’t returned the dress yet. I lived in Farmingdale at the time. My friend from Islip was going to a con in Pittsburgh which Binghamton friend was planning to attend. So, In Woodbury, I passed the dress to Islip friend, who flew with it to Pittsburgh to return it to Binghamton friend.

I can’t think of an example, spidey, but I am not at my best at the moment, so if something occurs to me I’ll post it.

Not ill or anything, just a very tough weekend. Coached two soccer games (mentioned in last week’s MMP) and then refereed three on Saturday and three more on Sunday. The last one went to overtime and by then the light was gone, so we had to relocate 1/2 mile away to a lighted field to do the penalty kick shootout. No rain for the past 2 weeks, so the fields were hard as concrete, and my knees and ankles are telling me in no uncertain terms that fat 63 y.o. men ain’t supposed to be doing this.

Still, the season is over so I suppose I can clean out my car and take it to the carwash, as I haven’t seen a lot of it for the past three months with all the gear inside.

Time to forage something to break fast with now…

I went to Morning Prayer over to the church house. A nice service of prayers for the nation. My throat is all scratchy still and I’m supposed to lead Evening Prayer tonight so I think I shall go lie down. That’s good for one’s throat right? OK, I shall also gargle several times. I should go for Noonday but think I’ll skip that. Ham steaks, some kind of rice side dish, and succotash (just for you flytrap) shall be dindin so that’ll be easy enough to make. I should begin to defilthyfy da cave but I don’t want to so I won’t.

I’ve driven all over Hell and Back delivering and picking up small livestock. Also took two motorcycles across the country (and back home) in the back of a truck in the dead of winter, snow and rain almost continually, in just under 5 days. It was a suicide attempt by sleep deprivation. Never again!

Speaking of the Pony Express- I drive my Jeep on a portion of it quite often.

Not if you are having succotash.

blurf I went to the bank and was told since the three charges are only pending there is nothing they can do until they actually post. Makes no sense to me but sometimes the charges will drop off and not post. Anyway almost $600 of my money is tied up and the bank will give me provisional credit if i need it. Bastard thieves.

Happy Moonday!

It’s bright and N.O.S. this morning. It’s 55 degrees outside. I don’t know how it feels because I haven’t put the dog out yet. He started limping yesterday and is still sore today, so he seems to prefer sleep to being up and walking around.

I think one of my patchouli plants is done. I don’t know what I can do for it.
Cat is still having tummy troubles.

I have a lot to do today and after my lazy weekend, I can’t put it off any longer. I also told Sah-son I’d help him with a Geology question because it concerns religion. Other than putting him in a small private Baptist school when he was young, he knows little to nothing about Christianity. It’s a huge gap in his education, which I should have known better. I have cousins (who are now super religious) who grew up with no religious education and by not having that back ground you miss a lot of the symbolism in art, music, literature, etc.

I’m with you Butters One, it’s a pita that your money is tied up waiting for the stuff to go through so you can get a refund. Two, I have a very low tolerance for thieves - pretty much all criminals anymore.

One of the few uses of cell phones I am guilty of ----- finding cool crap in my travels for people I know and then getting it for them and delivering it. Last time in Georgia I saw this terrific kick-stand I knew a buddy would like so I called, let him know the price, and threw it in the car.

Another was this stuffed animal that we hand off from state to state and country to country among bikers. Someone is/was doing a picture story of all its travels and places it had been. I got in that twice and it was fun but I sort of lost track of trying to follow it around.

Pardon the multiple replies; I’m having internet issues with the SDMB today for some reason – keep getting bumped off.

ON THE HIJACK FRONT

I saw a TV commercial for the following and had to order two for the As Seen On TV part of OutRageous Bingo. This is a product so wrong on so many different levels (at least as the advertising is worded) that we just HAD to have some

I’ve ferried things from state to state on several occasions. One of my nieces who lives fairly close to me had two overlapping pregnancies with my baby sister up by Chicago. I ferries baby and toddler clothing back and forth for a few years when I would go up to visit. I’ve also taken things to my sister in Houston from family up north or around Nashville when making the trip.

The only one that I’ve done for someone outside of the family was delivering a really sweet Chihuahua mix from Nashville to West Memphis, Arkansas for a friend who was sending a rescue pup to her brother. I happened to be heading to Houston at the time and volunteered. Goliath made a delightful traveling companion.

the temp inside my apt is comfortable but my feet are little blocks of ice. Guess I’ll have a higher bill this month. But as soon as the feeling returns to my feet, I’m gonna lower the thermostat again

Shouldn’t Smokey be sitting on your tooties to warm them??
