The Prize Inside - an introspective MMP

I have just learned that I am being feted this Sattidy. It’s a pre birthday celebration for lil’ ol’ me at friends’ house. Ok it’ll be late afternoon cause I do have to work but still, wantin’ to have a pool party for moi. How nice! Plus we’re talkin’ gooooooooood cooks! Also, I received my DQ birthday blizzard coupon in an email today. Buy one get one free. So, I’ll let ol’ y’all know who have the free one and I’ll have the bought one, which he, of course, will buy.

Yah, those service contracts are funny that way. Either you wind up thinking you wasted a whole bunch of money because you didn’t use it at all, or something goes very expensively wrong with the appliance and you’re so glad you bought the contract.

We really got our money’s worth out of the home buyer’s appliance coverage when we bought the house. Repairing the stove would have been $700+ on its own. It was the first stove that I ever had to reboot. It could be baking right along, then the main board would go boink and it took a power cycle to reset the thing.

Unfortunately, the fridge didn’t start acting up until after the home warranty was up. In its case, the ice dispenser would stop working. Press the lever and get nothing. Oddly enough, the fix for it was, believe it or not, rebooting the fridge.
Cat heads.
Cat heads.
Roly-poly cat heads!

I took a cat head to a movie - didn’t have to pay to get it in.

**FCD **looked at the paperwork closer than I did - the parts on order are almost $300! Yep, I done good.

Four cat bodies and four cat heads are in the damp cabinet waiting for assembly. I should have 4 cats before the weekend is up. Rah!

I think it’s ice cream time.

Yay, it’s my Firday today; I made an executive decision to take tomorrow off. Yay for BBBBBobbio being home!

Yesterday afternoon when I got home, I was sitting here surfing the 'net and had the news on the tv. Suddenly, they’re talking about the Fitness Center and pool at GW University, a chlorine spill and fire … damn, that’s where my son works! I hollared to my daughter, “quick, call your brother to make sure he’s okay!” as the news was then reporting that some folks were taken to the hospital as the building was evacuated. Fortunately he was safe but OMG, it happened right there in front of him, at his pool! Some of the chlorine splashed up on an electrical panel, which sparked and caused a fire; I think some one went to GW Hospital for smoke inhalation. My son said the chlorine guy, who caused the incident, slipped out the door. Good grief!

My daughter and I were going to go out and about tomorrow, including a stop at the pool, but a volunteer org. is coming to pick up my daughter’s car (it was my Mom’s car, actually, that we gave to her…she’s never driven it, though, and now it’s almost 20 years old and isn’t worth fixing any longer, unfortunately…:(). It’s good bye to Alice the Buick. I need to go to several places, and am so hoping to get to at least two of them tomorrow, so I don’t have to do everything on Saturday. At least I won’t be at work! LOL

They’re pretty and they’re quiet. And no pesky cat hairs marring my clothes, my furniture, my carpet, my bed…
I do like cats in general, as I do dogs, I am just feeling overwhelmed with Duties right now and could use less of some. That’s all.

I probably won’t even get the fish. I go through periods of no pets and then get a hankering to have one. YMMV.

Welcome home Bobbio!

Hope they catch the chlorine guy, herbs. Doesn’t he know he’s in more trouble now because he ran away than if he manned up and took his lumps?

Tomorrow is the beginning of Bele Chere, the local big-ass street festival. Dar Williams is playing tomorrow night. I am working nights for the next three days. :frowning: I’m also feeling a bit blue because there are adjunct positions open for every department except English in all of the colleges around here. I’m starting to get discouraged. Just when I realize I really do want to teach, this mess happens.

Oh well, at least I’ve got a job now.

I have no cat heads. Nelly and Gordie were (reasonably) good today, so all the dog heads will remain firmly attached to the dog bodies.

Herbs, glad your son is OK.

Welcome Home BBBobbio!!!

rosie, I like cats

::waves at Mumpers from vacation::

Yay for baby on the way and new house coming soon, LiLi!

Sorry about messy HRH, Dotty.

Welcome home, Bobbio!

We’re leaving town and heading to the site of the wedding tomorrow, wedding is Saturday and then it’ll be back home. Time has really flown here. Feels like we’ve barely seen my mother, even though we’ve been with her here the whole time. Weird.

GT

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ cause I’m goin’ in early. The big plan is to be there at four-thirty. YAWN

Glad you’re havin’ a good time gt!

Ok, in need of massive amounts of more caffiene and some brekkies.

Later Y’all!

Happy firday, mumpers! Welcome back, BBBobbio, did you have a fun trip?

I was late getting to bed last night 'cos I had to wait for the laundry to finish and I was watching “Sons of Anarchy” off the TiVO, then I decided to have a glass of wine and that led to another one…so I got up late today too.

I usually finish early on a Friday but today I am staying until my normal time then I’m hopping on a train and when I get off again, I’ll be in Scotland. Glasgow, here I come!

Serious case of the donwannas today…I had a conference call at 7.20AM today so I called in from the house after I talked to the hubby at 6.30.

Conf call was an hour so it has put me behind all day now and I just do not want to do a damn thing.

On the plus side it is Friday and I have no real plans for the weekend apart from seeing HP6. My follow up appointment at the doc said I have damaged my cruciate ligament and I am supposed to stay off my feet.

Good morning! Caffeinating in process, hopefully I’ll be able to do my errands today -before- any t-storms come thru.

Glad you’re enjoying vacation and hope the wedding is beautiful, GT. Swampy, so sorry you’re having to go in to work so early, but my gosh, an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWAMPY!!!.

Still a bit blurfy this morning. Mmmmmm, didn’t you forget to mention how many days until you see your hubby this morning? Is it … what 21 now?

Happy Firday all!

Blurf, and Happy Firday, y’all.

I’m glad to be home. As cool as Bahston Light was, big-city Bahston still sucked. Yeah, I know, Indiannoplace and metropolitan Hampton Roads VA ain’t exactly Mayberry, but neither are they major league like Bahston, New Yawk, or LA.

My pictures turned out pretty well for being taken on a crappy cell phone camera.

The big deal of the day is an appointment at 4 PM in Betsytown to do a refi on my house. My mortgage interest will drop a point and a half… I also get to skip a payment for this month while the finances get resettled. Envy me, I’m using the windfall money to get my septic tank pumped. Yeah, I like to live large.

There’s also the ever-popular bambilance duty tomorrow night, and I have to [del]make hay[/del]mow the frikkin’ yard this weekend. It’s amazing how the [del]weeds[/del]grass can grow a foot in length when you’re gone for most of a business week.

Up, caffeinated, off to Blurf.

Sounds like someone needs sheep.

Morning. Rainy, overcast morning. Which will hopefully actually involve the rain that we so desperately need and not just clouds. If it’s going to be cloudy, it should rain dammit!

It’s a half day Firday here so only 3 1/2 hours to go. Woo.

Since it’s looking like a not-so-nice weekend weather-wise, I think it’s going to involve a lot of baking, knitting, and tv-watching. Sounds good to me!

LiLi, the way SiL dealt with a combination of morning sickness plus a toddler was threefold:

  1. corner the market on ginger extract pills,
  2. no morning sickness on the second pregnancy,
  3. give the pills to a friend on her first and very morning-sicky pregnancy.

Steps 2 and 3 aren’t anything you can control, but you could give 1 a try, I think.

Galicia is the wettest part of Spain, its climate is similar to England’s. Last Wednesday there were record rains: some towns got as much rain in one day as they normally get in the whole month. But there’s lots of cafeterias, so when it starts raining too much, we just get into one.
I think mmmmmmm and her hubby will be re-meeting at about the time I’ll be hopping on a plane to Edinburgh.

The bears are back. Last night they knocked over the trash can and ripped open every single bag looking for snacks. Thank the powers that be that trash pickup is today.

Stupid freeloadin’ bears. Get a job, you bums!
