The apple picking went well. We got about 30 pounds in the bag they gave us. Also bought an apple crumb cake and some donuts. This was more activity than I’ve done since the surgery, so I’ll see how everything reacts. Really feeling it in my hip joints at the moment, so I popped a couple of Excedrin. As long as the knee doesn’t do anything dramatic, it’s all good.
A dreary day in philly. Went on the shopping trip to get lager some chicken. Picked up some Halloween goodies. No candy as yet. Just decorations and fun things for the candy bags.
For me cute black cat slippers, and 2 new shoes to replace 2 aging sneakers.
Hooray for apples there Cookie. And for a knee that held up so far. Here’s hoping for tomorrow too.
Taters, overthinking is a standard foible of the smart people. Bugs me no end when I catch myself doing it. Good on 'ya for noticing when the right amount be came too much of a good thing. Simple is good, and close enough really is close enough. A mantra I’m trying to teach myself with only mixed success.
My nap went very nicely, thank you.
Her Ladyship has let the bread machine (her favorite kitchen toy) graciously produce a very nice looking / smelling loaf of generic WW bread. It won’t be ready for a while yet, but we can have a taste before we go to dinner in about 2 hours.
The general cloudiness remains, but the direct sun peaks through now and again fr a few minutes. Ought to be a decent and dry evening for our walk to and from.
Howdy Y’all! We got Gabriel ordained. It was a very movin’ service, as well as a joyful one. Lots o’ folks in attendance which was nice. I managed to herd verge choir, clergy, and so forth with relative ease. Go Me! Afterwards there was a very nice reception with all kinds of goodies. So much so that we decided against sup as we got full tummies from all the nummy goodies. Now, obviously, we are at da cave and chillaxin’. Oh and my Dawgs won so I has a happy with that as well.
Hippie how cool!
OK, I read all, but retention is not a thing for me right now, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlin’s, noogie, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
hippy, that’s a real tribute to you and your part in the companies success. Nice.
swampy, glad the ordination went well, and the feasting afterward sounds like fun, too.
Nettie, having had portions of my concrete floor torn up for plumbing issues in the past couple of years, it’s quite noisy and does take several days to do and then repair. Glad they sprung for the hotel.
Oopsie, sorry there wasn’t more people out, but sounds like you made lemonade out of it. Enjoy the Sunday get-together.
Taters, I got some new bags from Marshall’s a few months ago, they will get their first real workout in November. I have a carry-on bag that may be a bit too big but I get away with it anyway (so far). Hope the new stuff works well for you.
Cookie, glad the pickingwnet well and crossing fingers that the knee behaves itself.
Well, soccer was coached (U12 boys won 5-2, u8 boys lost 0-4) and refereed, and I am moderately amazed that I feel pretty good despite the running and exercise; guess all that gym work is really paying off. Of course, when I try to get up from the desk in a bit, I suspect various parts of my anatomy will render objections… Didn’t see much change in the sky here for the eclipse, stayed bright and breezy (about 70F) so perfect weather for being out on a soccer field. Normally I nuke some Lean Cuisine Fettuccine Saturday night, but tomorrow is Olive Garden day, so I’ll improvise tonight’s repast. Also got the gas tank filled, 0.40 cents/gallon off on my Kroger Card.
That’s all from here, will shortly get moderately dressed and go forth to search for sustenance. All y’all take care.
The yard is raked, prescription picked up veggie broth in the freezer, chicken broth cooling before straining and the dog park visited. Now to chill in the studio.
Feeling just a touch smug right now. The HVAC was not working. @Bob_Blaylock had checked all the fuses and such, then we put in a maintenance request. While Bob was off doing something else, it occurred to me to check the circuit breakers. Sure enough, the relevant breaker had flipped. Flipping it back seems to have solved the issue. (giggle)
It seems very odd that I did not think to check that. I thought, right away, of some fuses that most muggles (i.e. those who are not electricians, HVAC technicians, or any related sort of superhuman beings) would not know even existed. Two fuses inside, and two outside. All the fuses were good, although I did find the outside fuses incorrectly-installed, and the clips bent so that even if correctly-installed, they would not make good contact, I am surprised that this did not cause us problems before. But on fixing that, the HVAC still was not working.
But I did not think to check the breakers. It took @Seanette to think of that.
Major slothage happened this morning when I woke up at 6:30 and rolled over and slept another two hours. Eventually, I got some breakfast in me, news read, and finally set out on my errands after trying to get my phone to cough up video of the big race start (big race is still going on, it lasts into the dark).
Went to the shoe store and didn’t spend money on shoes. I was dropping off slightly used pairs for refurbishment and resale through a local community group. Very kind of Schuler Shoes to participate in this operation.
Like Mooooom, I then participated in the Saturday grocery run. I normally avoid this because I used to be a cashier so I know Saturdays are long days for them. But with my work training schedule to consider, I buckled down and went to the co-op, gassed up my car, and then went shopping at TJs. I shouldn’t need to shop for 10 days or so.
I’m settling in for some reading and then early bed as I need to get my head into an earlier all around schedule.
nellie, I’m so glad the world is becoming fully visible to you again!
nettie, that exterminator news just bites. But if they are using chemical agents, I wouldn’t want all my stuff exposed to that. Tough decision.
Hippie, that is awesome. First that you thoughtfully collected all those tags and second, that they thoughfully did something with them and shared it with you. I wish I had been able to hook up with such an employer for my career. Good on you!
I hope you make full use of that time. Grin.
Cookie, I hope you had a great time at the apple orchard today. Which ones are you using for your pie?
pilot, don’t toast your skin too much or they’ll have to start removing bits of it as they have done with me. Skin cancer is a dastardly devil.
What is it with shoes today? That’s 3 of us getting or giving shoes. It’s shoe-terday. I wonder what Shoe is up to right now? Other than Long Night that is?
I grew up at the beach. I get a couple spots of skin cancer or pre-cancer frozen, biopsied, or cut off ever 6 months year round and have for decades. It’s an ongoing annoyance, not a life threatening risk. Yet. IME the people who screw themselves are the ones who ignore it until they’ve got a patch a couple inches on a side with deep roots. Those folks lose ears & noses & lips & stuff.
Good thinking to start re-orienting your circadian rhythm to your new work world. Life’s much better when you don’t have to do that abruptly. That kinda stuff put a lot of mileage on myself and my cow-orkers over the years.
Metalmouse congrats on a great day of kids & exercise. Good luck on a healthy & pleasant dinner to cap it off
Nettie: there’s nothing better than beating an expert at their own game. . Gosh knows I’ve sure started troubleshooting at step 2 a time or three then been shown up by whoever pointing out that step 1 is the problem. D’oh!
Our evening went well. Got medium-pretty then walked over. Enjoyed a mini- app of olives & chunk parm, then had actual apps as our light entrees: a mongo meatball w ricoota and red sauce for Her Ladyship and a bowl of shrimp in garlic and pepper flakes buttter sauce for me. With some Italian bread of course. And a nice Sancerre. A pleasant time was had then we walked back home in the gathering dusk.
Now she has more Mr. Mercedes on the TV and I’m yakkin’ w y’all.
The final total for making broth today was 3 quarts of vegetable broth and 3.5 quarts of chicken broth. As I was putting the last of it in the freezer, I thought that JtC would be proud.
Hi all. Just a brief note that that I am alive Typing is just becoming more and more painful and life more and more busy. I haven’t had time to read or reply and I’m sorry.
On Wednesday, I’m having an EMG done on my hands. The following Wednesday, I meet with the surgeon. The day before we meet, I see my PCP and will mention the weakness and fatigue. If I’m lucky, I’ll be on the road to recovery by the new year.
Other than that, not much to tell. Kids on fall break. BtY barely passed 1st qwuarter. CtE doing better but the depression is still there. Hubby is a saint.
Hope everyone is well. I’ll try to be back more odten. hugs to all
Well, it was pleasant…I’m not sure if 2000 calories of 5 Guys Burgers and Fries count as healthy or not, but I’m sure not going to be hungry until Dinner time tomorrow…
Real fish, thanks for making the effort, sorry for the pain it caused. Hope the EMG and consultations lead to improvement.
vroom, I’ll add my good on’ya for the donation.
Nettie, sometimes the simplest things are the answer…bit don’t hold it over Bob-B head for more than 1-2 weeks…
OK, the day’s activity is catching up with me, so bedtime beckons and I’ll catch up with y’all tomorrow.
Hubs and I are constantly having to remind each other to power cycle our tech toys before trying anything else.
It’s great that you were able to relax and go back to sleep instead of worrying about your psycho ex-boss screaming at you.
Not even 10 years ago, I learned that a cow-irker used masking tape to hem her clothes. She was SO happy when I told her about iron on hem tape. Of course, she was young enough that Home Ec. wasn’t an option anymore.
The hole in the wall Mexican place we didn’t go to last week because it was closed…had a kitchen fire and will be doing some rehab before opening…
Yes, I loved that they made sure his contribution was made loud and clear!
No, he’s talking about the blinker clicky thing.
It’s always so sad when that happens. I’ve never been as active as you, but I’ve sat at booths often enough to know the feeling when nobody cares.
I hope everything will be happy for the movement and am jealous over the crumb cake. I hope you enjoy!
I am very proud! Future you will be so happy you did that
I’m glad you are alive, but the pain just sucks. I hope the surgery helps.
I woke up to a sunny morning and took my coffee out on the front porch and watched the eclipse for a while, then I got tired of leaning on the rail to watch and went to the park instead. We didn’t get the Ring of Fire, but it did get dark and all the birds quieted. Folks on Nextdoor posted some pics of eclipse shadows caused by trees making pinhole reflections on the ground which made me jealous. I really need my sticks in the ground to turn into real trees.
NF and I are meeting for lunch Wednesday to discuss traveling to Dallas together. I think we would do OK, but I need to be sure she really understands how much weed I consume on a daily basis. People who smoked a few joints when they were in college often get nervous being around someone who never stopped so has sky high tolerances.
I don’t smoke inside unless it is a smoking home and I am willing to vape while in Texas because flower reeks, but I will still have flower on me.
I don’t want this to be an issue a day into our roadtrip so its best to get it talked about now.
Also, did you change your avatar photo?
Who are those cutie bugs?
If you got a friggin’ archangel, I’d say that’s a pretty good catch.
Speaking of dawgs, thx for the cravin. Turns out, they were open, and at the last minute, I got two; one for rightfrigginnow and one for later, and I am so glad I did!
On the advice of my attorney, imma plead the 5th on that one.
Um …
Some sugar daddy you turned out to be.
Didja throw a party?
{ does math on fingers }
About 9 pm? Dealing with the usual assortment. No outrageous stories, but a couple of those folks definitely needed something absorbent in their tummies.
Well, that’s a start.
(You are in our warmest thoughts. I hope your fins become less painful soon.)
Well, I learned a thing today!
… oh. Wait. I don’t own an iron.
… and that, boys and girls, is why we don’t sneak joints in the walk-in.
Anymore.
To-may-toe, poh-tah-toe.
The grown-ass adult version of eating alone at lunch in middle school.
I took a $#itload of those kinds of pictures during the last eclipse … what was it, five-ish years ago?
That series is still among my favorites. You can actually see the progression of the eclipse as time elapsed.
The thing is, by that point in my life I’d forgotten nearly everything I knew about physics so I had no idea that it would happen, or even what was happening. Spent more than a few minutes wondering when the hell my last LSD trip had been and was I having a flashback?
The rain cleared up here earlier this morning, but it was way too cloudy for any solar shenanigans at that time. Of fucking course the sky was bright blue by mid-afternoon, though.
Got soooper excited when I heard the mail delivery, but alas, no “real” drivers license yet. Maybe Monday.
Whelp, slaps thighs in Midwestern time for me to chill a bit while killing some zombies and having a snack, and then getting some sleep.
