Ohhhh, you mean outside of Illinois, where we voted in - among other candidates - the first Democratic governor for the state in 25 years.
I’m thrilled over the re-election of Judy Baar Topinka ®, who’s proven to be a wonderful treasurer for the state and spearheaded some good programs.
I’m questionable about the election of Lisa Madigan (D) for our attorney general, but her Republican opponent wasn’t looking that hot either.
See, even though I count myself a Democrat, I care about the qualifications of the candidates, and not so much what party they’re affiliated with. I truly hope that amidst the celebration over the “Republican victory”, the best candidates were elected. Because if that’s not the case, everyone loses in the end.
Arrogance and complacency are what cost the GOP their momentum after the big win in 1994. You should know that sleestak. Now is not the time to gloat no matter what the other party might have done in the same shoes. It’s time to get to work.
Oh great, let’s stack the federal courts with activist, right-wing, anti-abortion, Christian fundamentalist, Pledge-of-Allegiance chanting, anti-gay “Adam and Steve” cliche spewing, “evolution is just a theory” canard spewing, “Let’s appoint Bush” democracy undermining, “sure, here’s a warrant” civil rights ambivilant, lifetime appointed, pro-Bush conservative judges.
As opposed to activist, left-wing, pro-abortion, athiest, pledge-hating, gay pride marching, anti-religious, Clinton-ophile, weak on crime, lifetime appointed, pro-Clinton leftist judges??
I’ll choose neither. Gimme a few plain 'ol textualists any day of the week – oh wait, that is what GWB is supposedly trying to appoint.
When you know a little about law, and have read case after case from the SCOTUS, you realize that 95% of the cases they hear have absolutely no connection whatsoever to traditional left/right conflicts. In most every case, the same things happen regardless of who would be helped or hindered by the outcome. Scalia looks solely within the four corners of the text, considering the text within internal context only, and that’s his final word. Stevens and his ilk scrounge up every bit of floor debate they can, eventually dialing up a radio psychic in a futile attempt to divine through magic the mythical creature known as “legislative intent.” Stevens method has more flexibility, more room for judicial activism, but either method is usually applied similiarly in the vast majority of cases.
Call back when you learn a little about the process of statutory interpretation, ok? Bye now, idiot.
Of course, it’s the other five percent that makes all the difference. There is a clear political slant and context to SOME Supreme Court cases. That has always been true–since the founding of the republic. The appointment of justices to that court is a ligitimate matter of political concern.
Some might think that “textualist” could be code for “no more changes.” Some might also think that the founders and the Congress thought out all the possible complications–those people might be wrong.
Friend, your bias is showing–do you predict or do you state as fact that justices of the Supreme Court have conjsulted radio psychics, or is it just a little good humored hype?
Sorry andros, that whole ‘sleep then go to work’ thing kept me busy for a while. I apologize for not responding to your Bullshit quickly enough.
I AM taking home more money due to the tax cut. It isn’t a huge amount but it is more money which I earned. I’d give details but I prefer to keep that information private. I will say that it is about inline with what ** In Conceivable** posted.
You obviously can read and write. There are jobs for you. Even if you couldn’t read or write, there’d still be jobs for you. McDonald’s is always hiring. Maybe you think you’re worth more than you really are.
My granddad had a saying, “If you ever feel that you aren’t living up to your standards, all you have to do is lower your standards a little bit and you’ll be fine.”
Dig ditches for 80 hours a week, and any able bodied person in this country can make a living. Whine about it, and I have no respect for you.
