Washington’s RG Sam Cosmi tore his ACL during the game, making him unavailable for the rest of the playoffs.
That game went how you might expect. Down to the last couple of minutes and a 2 point margin of victory. Not a disappointment.
The Bills covered that 1.5-point spread as narrowly as was mathematically possible.
Twice Baltimore attempted a two point conversion. Twice they failed. Had they kicked, the game would still be going.
The Bills were 1.5 point underdogs when the game started. Had they lost by a point, that would have covered the spread as narrowly as possible.
That’s a great point. The first missed conversion was late in the third quarter. Lots of time left in the game, and Buffalo had done nothing on offense in the second half.
Opening lines, as set by DraftKings:
Commanders @ Eagles (-4.5)
Bills @ Chiefs (-1.5)
Shades of Cowboys TE Jackie Smith dropping a short touchdown pass in Super Bowl XIII, which would have let them tie the Steelers.
Oh whooops. I thought they were favored by 1.5.
I, too, thought of Jackie Smith. I haven’t seen the play in years but I’m pretty sure I know what happened to him (IIRC): just before the ball got to him his feet slipped a little which lowered his chest. Staubach’s pass then hit Smith higher on the chest than he had planned for and the ball bounced off of his chest.
I watched the Mark Andrews drop several times while thinking of Jackie Smith and I did not see any of that happening, nor did I see Andrews taking his eye off the ball at all. I also heard a radio call of that play and that announcer (not sure which broadcast it was) said that Jackson’s pass was behind Andrews.
To my eye it wasn’t behind Andrews, it was right on him but it can be said that Jackson’s pass could have led him just a little bit more. It’s a little easier to catch a pass when it leads you a little bit versus if it’s directly onto you because you have better perspective on the ball. You see it more in 3 dimensions rather than 2, if that makes sense, which gives your eyes more info on the ball’s location.
Yes I am splitting hairs a little. But I really could not see why Andrews dropped that ball.
Jackie Smith. Bill Buckner (okay, baseball). Roger Craig. Ernest Byner. And now Mark Andrews. Andrews is going to be down for a long time to come. But I hope not, truthfully. He’s a good player. Shit happens.
And now the odds to win the Super Bowl are as follows:
Philadelphia Eagles +185
Kansas City Chiefs +210
Buffalo Bills +220
Washington Commanders +700

I’m now pulling for the Bills, as a sentimental pick. Retribution (a little) for Scott Norwood and Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith and Darryl Talley and Andre Reed and Steve Tasker and the other greats on that 4-peat team. And of course for Marv Levy.
Sunday’s games should be good ones.

Me too!
Though Commanders would be cool also.

To the extent I care about who wins at this point, I’d like to see it be the Bills, for that very reason. And, Marv is still alive, at age 99, and according to Wikipedia, he recorded a message to the current Bills team, which was played for them prior to today’s game.
I didn’t realize Marv Levy was still living. Would be awesome if he got to see a Bills Super Bowl Championship.
Out of curiosity, if the Bills meet the Eagles, would it be the first time one team has met all four teams from one same division in the Super Bowl (in this case, NFC East)?
The Bills would have played the Giants, Washington, Cowboys and Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Oh hush, you. My second worst case scenario, after Ravens beating the Commanders (thankfully avoided) would be Eagles beating the Bills. Losing five Superbowls to the same division would just be brutal.
Of course, when the Bills were losing Super Bowls, there were FIVE teams in the NFC East. However, the Cardinals left the division, so they’ll never get the chance to really clear the board.
I’m still flummoxed by the Commanders’ upset win over the Lions.
Yeah, as a lifelong Metro Detroit resident and long-suffering Lions fan, tell me about it. I’m feeling almost as bad as I did in the first few days after the election. I think I’m done with football until next season. I have a friend who has a SB party every year- not sure if I’ll be able to make it this year.
I feel for you too.
And, my wife and I always avoid Super Bowl parties because we want to watch the game, not socialize! We also like to watch the commercials.
Poor Mark Andrews. Gonna be a long offseason for him.
Besides the two point conversion, he had an earlier drop on a crossing route where he did take his eye off the ball, and later the fumble after the catch. The old saw: Bad things come in threes.
On the plus side, I’m still in it for the grand prize in the contest ![]()
Looking at the bracket, it has been all chalk except for the Commanders. At this rate it will be the Commanders beating the Chiefs
