The Scheduling Begins: NYC MegaDopefest III -- January 3-5, 2003

Well crud…looks like I either need a ride, or have to manage to drive myself down (which I don’t want to do, seeing as I really really really don’t want to drive in the city. But if it’s my only option, then I guess I’ll do it. Heck, if that’s what i end up doing I’ll even pick up that other person Honey was going to pick up too.)

I feel so bad, please e-mail me if you need a train ticket.

Crap, crap, crap
:frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

I’ll take a train. I just need to get one of my friends to give me a ride to Poughkeepsie - tickets from Poughkeepsie are $13, tickets from Hudson (the nearest Amtrak station to me) are closer to $40.

I just want everyone to know I’ve decided to grow my goatee during the eleven days I have vacation before New Year’s Day, chance getting caught at work with it (which is verboten), and will also be wearing one helluva snappy fedora.

No kilt, though. I decided the Scott tartan looked like the Plaid Stamps my mom collected from the grocery story when I was a kid. I think she still has the thermos somewhere…

I can’t hold it in any longer.

I can’t wait to meet DAVEW0071. I’m just bursssting at the seams here.

Phew. I feel better now.

Hey bouv, picture a fiery redhead about … six inches shorter than you, giving you a really big hug. Picture her with cleavage.

Now picture her army of redheads.

Now, are you going to say no to a drive down to see this army of Redheads with Cleavage?

I didn’t think so. You may be dumb, but you’re not stupid;)

TruePisces, I’d be happy to put up and manage an offical website for the NY fest. I’ve got tons of server space, and tons of time to fiddle with it.

oh, and bouv, if you don’t want to drive into the city, you might want to do what I’m doing, and driving most of the way, and then leaving my car for the weekend at the train station (I’m leaving mine at Cold Springs, I could give you directions there if you want). The round trip train ticket is only like 18 dollars I think… less if it’s not peak hours.

Dave-darlin’, you’re giving me all the more reason to drool. I think the goatee will be worth a dollar.

Eonwe, thanks. I’m kicking myself for not being able to do it, but at least it’s going to a good home.

I may have missed references to this in this long thread that I’'ve skimmed in spots, but has anyone given thought to the possibility that there may be a transit strike in progess (in its third week, to be precise) at this time of year? Not a pretty picture. Are we determined to hold this Fest whatever happens, or is there a point that we’l consider rescheduling entirely?

Never too soon to start panicking.

I’d guess we’d probably try to still have it, but that’s just 'cause I really, really, really, really, REALLY wanna have the Fest, and I can drive there if I have to.

I met a friend for dinner at America tonight (I’d never eaten there before) and WOW! what a menu, what great, inventive, pretty food. It’s my new favorite restaurant. And reasonable, too. And only a block away from some of the best used book/cd stores in the city.

It is a pretty great place. That’s where we’d gone last year, and I had a very enjoyable meal. And it has the advantage of actually being able to fit over 70 very hungry Dopers.

Last year all I had was a burger. Hopefully I’ll get there in time this year so I can actually look at the menue.

As well you should be. He rocks. I think he’s a god. Just don’t monopolize my time with him, or I’ll have to kick your a** too.

FWIW, last year I ordered meatloaf and didn’t finish the plate. I thought the prices were a bit high, but when you see the portions you’ll understand:)

Don’t worry about it, sweets. I’ll be too busy monopolizing your time.

ok billdo, grab the hammer and chisel and put my name on the “of course i’m f*%@ing coming list”. what a perfect way to finish my xmas vacation.

Okay. That’s a fair exchange.

You fickle bitch! I’ll be monopolizing Zappo to some extent myself. He’s my good buddy, you know, and I promised him a beer.

And Scott Evil, goodness, I’m flattered! I want to meet you, too.

I’m looking forward to this like crazy.
