Michael’s went out of business, and HobbyLobby didn’t/wouldn’t answer their phone, so we ended up at Jo-Ann Fabrics, which is not the best craft store around for building miniature villages from the colonial period. So we went to a Dollar Store and wow! We got fake greenery, florist blocks to use as houses and something else–I’ve forgotten because we ended up at about 4 stores and also had to return some stuff to Jo-Ann’s after DS. #2 son and I shopped for 3 hours. We are not starting on the village today, but we have it all(mostly) planned out. Yay!
Lisssorry to hear the sleep issues are still continuing. I again suggest Ferber and releasing your inner Nazi.
We washed cars yesterday (#1 and #2 son and I). Boy that felt good. Today is more overcast and not as warm. How quickly we start to whine, eh? Actually, I’m happy about the weather, just a bit tired from all the sturm and drang yesterday.
Wait, what? Is this locally or national? Michael’s is the only place that carries DMC embroidery floss in this vast wasteland of a town. If this is a national shutdown I am going to utter Vile Profanities.
I noticed when I got home yesterday that my house wasn’t smelling so good. Fresh air was definitely called for. It’s above freezing so I’ve got a window open – I’m not leaving it for very long, obviously – and the air is lovely. But chilly.
One more trip into town to pick up my laundry and feed my doggie cousins one more time and I don’t have to go anywhere until Tuesday morning unless I want to. Yay! For some reason I’m really tired.
Spaz, the Michael’s website says nothing about closing down completely. I think we’re safe. The closest one is 80 miles away but it’s 30 cents per skein vs 70 cents at a local store which is run by a woman who was not nice to me the one time I went in there. If Michaels goes, I’ll be ordering online.
We’ll probably re-Ferberize when he’s feeling better, but unfortunately we tend to fold after five or six days of two-hour screaming every time he wakes up, because after five days of three hours of sleep, life becomes not worth living. We’re also thinking about night-weaning, but… ditto. He cries for at least forty-five minutes every time he wakes.
The frustrating thing is that Ferber is supposed to mean peace after about four nights, and gradually getting better every night. It never has, for us, so while we do it out of desperation, we’re skeptical about its applicability to every kid.
Sigh.
Pot roast and cheese gnocchi for dinner. Perfect. Ad then a good night.
Poor sleepy LiLi. It’s too bad giving your child laudanum to shut them up went out of style… sounds like it would be rather helpful right about now.
What I like about eye of round is that it makes perfect roast beef sandwiches, which is fine by me because I happen to prefer my roast beast in sandwich form anyways (especially with a little Dijon and thinly sliced cucumbers). The only trick is doing the high-temperature method, which means it can’t be done at the last minute.
Wonderful snark, Spaz, as always. It never ceases to surprise me how lacking in common sense and self-preservation some people are.
rigs, I’ve stopped buying craft supplies from anywhere other than the dollar store. Granted, the selection can be a little hit and miss, but at a buck apiece I can just stock up on the basics whenever I happen to find them.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day today, so I went down to Chinatown with a friend for a walk and some pho. Then I went to Homesense and bought a bunch of stuff that I Really Really Need, Like Seriously (like pillows and a super-cute baking dish and a cooling rack for my baking). All in all, a lovely Sunday in every possible way.
I’ve got some bison stew cubes braising in the oven in a combination of coffee, red wine and bacon. Not quite sure how it’ll turn out, but I figure anything that is braised using three of my favouritest things in the world can’t possibly be that bad… right?
I went for a long walk and feel better. There is something about sunlight through trees, no matter the season, which calms and centers me. I was probably a Druid in another life.
I dunno re Michael’s nationwide. The one in Olympia Fields, IL is gone, gone, gone. Which sucks, because I went there a lot and JoAnn Fabrics is not so great. Hobby Lobby was too far for us to just go check out (since they didn’t answer the phone). We had some crafty stuff here as well. I am hoping to take a pic of this village and post it here when it’s done.
I plan on watching bad TV tonight (is there any other kind at this point?) and finishing my scarf. I am tired of knitting scarves, but truly not up for learning a new stitch etc. I need to work on some library stuff as well. I like your hat, GT.
ETA: I almost forgot! MY THREAD WAS THREADSPOTTED! Never has happened before. I am so glad it’s a nice one and not a rant or major snark from me. Thanks, ivylass!
Congrats on the Threadspotting, rigs! I really like that thread.
Hope Nat sleeps better tonight, LiLi.
Took a nap in the middle of the afternoon and actually slept for a couple of hours. Now I’m contemplating what to do with the little bit of weekend that remains. I’m thinking I’ll either read something or knit. Also need to call Mom.
New kitteh has been venturing out. In fact, she did her best to interfere with my knitting. What a goof!!
We’re debating names - I’m leaning towards Zelda for no particular reason. I dunno - the consideration continues.
It was funny earlier - she and Taz were on our bed and **FCD **was tormenting them with the old, ratty feather toy. At one point, the little girl was lying down, and Taz went to her, put his mouth right next to her ear this >< close and growled deep in his throat. She just lay there. I’m guessing she was being submissive and he was declaring his alphadom. Cracked me up.
With luck, I’ll be able to get some pics tomorrow.
But for now, it’s nighty-night time. See ya in the next MMP!
The toilet project started around 12:30 and wrapped up at 6 PM, not counting time to put shit away. It went easier that I anticipated, but it wasn’t trivial.
The subflooring is a mess, and soaked through, but the dunny doesn’t leak anymore so it will dry eventually. VWife is happy to have her new floor done.
Methinks these words should probably never ever ever be in the same breath as a reference to fixing the toilet. Unless it was literal shit, that is.
Bison stew turned out absolutely delicious. Recipe shall be blogged tomorrow, assuming I can find the time to process and upload the photos. I’m pretty proud of myself… I’ve managed to stick to my Thing-A-Day plan, with the exception of a couple of nights where I didn’t get home until very very late due to after-work plans.
I have fresh sheets just out of the dryer and new fluffy pillows to sleep on tonight. I’m very much excited about this, for some odd reason.
Because fresh clean sheets and fluffy pillows are exciting. Can’t wait for the bison recipe.
Hm. Mr. Lissar was supposed to wash the dishes. Instead, I can hear the shower starting up. :dubious: Unless he’s washing dishes in there, I think we’ll be stacking and soaking, and I’ll have to do them tomorrow.
Urgh. Very very tired. Going to collapse into bed.
Ooh, fresh clean sheets are wonderful. I washed mine today and am looking forward to going to bed. I did manage to annoy the cat because when I went to make the bed she was on it, so I moved her. Once I was done she settled back down and gave me The Look.
