Whitakers character’s name is “Lt. Kavanagh”.

I think the weirdness is really an affectation that the chracter puts on. He does it to make people uncofmortable. When he is interrogating Lem he seems much less crazy. But when talking to Vic’s wife and Aceveda he just seems weird. This makes Vic’s wife have sympathy for him so she opens up more in conversation, with Aceveda I think he does it to provoke a reaction out of him to see if he slips up and reveals something new.

Obviously he’s a little off but I think most of it is an act.

This could be the case, but it seems that he acts this way most of the time. It would make sense the first time he met someone, but not with Aceveda now that they are working together, and he needs Aceveda’s help to bring in Mackey.

I think he’s just plain loco.

Sorry to pop in late…I just finished watching the first three episodes. I think there might be some very interesting information to be revealed on Kavanagh; he had his own partner put away, and has since worked by himself? I’d like to hear more of that story.
