What, didn’t anyone else watch The Shield last night?
A good episode as usual. Funny how easy it is to root against Forest Whittakker, even though he’s in the right here.
So is it still sitting on everybody’s TiVos, or what?

I watch it faithfully. Loves me some Shield.
Og I hate Shane. Why couldn’t they have killed him off last season? I realize he serves a useful purpose but I still hate him.
Last night’s episode was better than last week’s. Really hope Lem will walk away from this unscathed. Forrest Wittaker rocks!
And isn’t it, “Death by unga boonga!”
I have heard and told it as “death by bonga.”
I just started watching this season on the advice of a friend and I am enjoying it. Yesterday’s episode is still on my TiVo.
Would one of you old timers mind giving me a little bit of background? I get the impression that Mackey and his boys really are good guys who do things outside of the law but that justice is served at the end. True?
Good episode. I’m not really enjoying Forrest Wittaker’s character too much. I almost feel like he’s channeling Vincent D’Onofrio’s Detective Goren character from Law & Order - Criminal Intent .
My guess is that since Shane spilled his guts to his wife, she’ll end up killing Lem in a future episode in order to cover Shane’s ass. We’ve already seen that she’s capable of braining somebody to defend her man. I think this time she’ll make sure that Lem doesn’t get up and walk away.
Usually. But in the very first episode, Vic (with Shane attendant) murdered a fed who was posing as a member of their strike team to try to nail them. Vic and Co. were deep into a lot of corruption, taking money from certain gangs and drug dealers in order to line their own pockets while also keeping the streets “orderly.”
Things began to heat up, the Strike Team was disbanded and while Vic and the others more or less walked the straight and narrow, Shane delved ever deeper into the shadow world…until he got caught up in a nightmare with a particular gang leader last season and was framed for murder. After Vic got him out of that, he has also been more on the straight and narrow path, although Vic and the rest often break or bend the law to dispense “street justice.”
To rundown the episode:
Vic lets the rest of the team know that Lem is under survielance from I.A.B. The team uses the laptop to communicate with Lem so nothing is heard.
Vic tells Shane that Lem knows about Terry.
Vic tells Lem that Terry was killed by the dealers, but that it was Vic’s fault for not being careful enough during the raid, so that Kavanaugh will hear this over the mic.
Vic and the team bust the child slave ring with the help of newbie hottie detective, who is put in some very compromising positions while under cover.
Dutch almost goes out with a gay guy.
Vic and his Ex figure out that Kavanaugh is the guy that has been meeting her at their kids’ school. She asks Vic if there is anything she needs to cover up, and he says “of course not”.
I think that covers the main points.
I am very interested to see where this thing with Dutch and the other guy goes. We have seen Dutch try to work it with the women, and it never works out for him. Is he about to cross over?
Lem seems to be on board with Vic for now, but I’m not so sure this will be the case for the rest of the season. Could we foresee Vic having to take out Lem to preserve himself? Is Vic capapable of such a thing?
Young hottie detective keeps getting more face time. This could only be leading up to a romance with someone in the department. My guess is Vic gets a turn with the rookie.
Another great episode, and the previews for next week look even better.
Rancid, I’ve merged your post into the existing thread. I trust that’s OK.
See - I sort’ve agree. I think that she’s gonna end up talking to Forest and IAD and getting the boys into all kinds of trouble, while all the while just trying to protect Shane’s ass.
Re: some other points —
Julian’s partner - this storyline is clearly leading somewhere. But I can’t for the life of me figure out where. It may just be big fireworks between her and Julian, but it’s gotta go somewhere. I think maybe she’s gonna end up getting Julian killed (and then get partnered up with Danni after she has her baby).
I don’t think Dutch is going to turn gay (specially after his reaction to Claudette enlightening him) BUT maybe. These writers are pretty wild.
Speaking of Claudette - she has to be sick. That’s all there is to it.
Anyways - best show on television, glad to see some Dopers still watching it.
Great episode, as usual. I’m really liking FW’s character. Man, is he creepy!
I gotta admit that as soon Older Preppy Detective Guy starting acting chummy around Dutch, my gadar alarm went off.
And you know that no good is going to come from Shane’s trailer trash wife. Bringing her into the plot means something baaaaaaaad is going to happen. What a freakin’ disaster she is.
What a top notch TV show this is.
The new hottie latina isn’t a detective. She’s a rookie uni.
Since in the premiere she batted eyes at both Dutch and Vic, I think she is definitely got some ‘danger’ in her storyline.
But I bet Shane bangs her first!
That’s the exact comparison I made in the thread for this season’s first episode.
I wish she would have covered Shane’s ass on last night’s episode - I didn’t need to see that.
How 'bout when he “bumped” into Dutch for no apparent reason while walking in the junkyard, and then saying something about “out of the closet”?
Eatin’ ain’t cheatin’.
I’d like to point out that eatin’ is, in fact, cheatin’. Repeat after me: Shane is not a role model!
We did see a lot of naked guy butt yesterday, but at least the sex scene was more realistic than most you see in movies or TV. If you can do it with the sheets always covering your naughty bits, you’re probably doing it wrong.
I feel extra bad for Corinne in this situation. She has everything to lose if Vic goes to jail because she needs the money he provides. As much trouble as he’s caused her, she’s probably worse off without him.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I know Shane is scum. I was just quoting an appropriate line, but yes, I know eating is surely cheating.
Oh, I know! I was totally teasing.
I didn’t see the season opener thread, but I’m glad there’s somebody else that can see the similarity. I think there’s a difference for me in how I feel about Detective Goren and Forrest Wittaker’s character. (WTF is his name?) Goren is extremely intelligent but socially awkward. (Asperger’s maybe? I think that it was hinted at in the one episode that had a suspect with Asperger’s.) Wittaker’s character is also very intelligent, but he seems to be a little bit crazy.
Roger that on covering Shane’s ass. I guess my OP could be taken two ways – both appropriate.
Whitakers character’s name is “Lt. Kavanagh”.
I think the weirdness is really an affectation that the chracter puts on. He does it to make people uncofmortable. When he is interrogating Lem he seems much less crazy. But when talking to Vic’s wife and Aceveda he just seems weird. This makes Vic’s wife have sympathy for him so she opens up more in conversation, with Aceveda I think he does it to provoke a reaction out of him to see if he slips up and reveals something new.
Obviously he’s a little off but I think most of it is an act.
