The Shield -- 5/1/07

I was so ready for Shane to take himself out. I can’t stand the tension, waiting for Vic to find out who killed Lem.

This was the first time I’ve seen Shane’s wife. I wasn’t impressed with her acting, or her character’s decision to forgive Shane for the affair. Is money important to her or does she really love Shane that much?

Anyway, another good episode.

It’s been established that money is that important to her.

I hate Shane’s wife. I thought it was a cop out that he confessed to her. She’s not really relevant to any story, except for a minor thing with the money train and Tavon’s accident. Never have liked her acting too much.

I was expecting him to come clean to Ronnie or someone.

With Vic being seemingly phased out, I don’t really see much room for a 7th season, but we’ll see.

Shane’s wife blames Vic for all of Shane’s trouble. She even reestablished that this episode when she said something like “what has Vic gotten you into now?” In the past she’s tried to come between Vic & Shane to get him away from Vic. I think it makes sense for her to forgive him, because the way she sees it, it’s really Vic’s fault for getting Shane involved in dirty cop stuff to the point where he was “forced” to kill Lem. She probably thinks Vic made him do it, even. She’ll keep his confession to herself, I bet.

In a way, Vic is responsible. However, I doubt Shane would ever have been a clean cop, and he’s not as devious and smart as Vic and would already be working night security at Wally World.

Yeah, I agree that Vic shares some responsibility for Lem’s death. That’s why I think when he eventually finds out it was Shane, he might not kill him.

You’re right, Shane would have been dirty anyway. Just saying that Shane’s wife doesn’t feel the same way and blames Vic.

Mara’s a gigantic wild card. Shane has done some incredibly stupid things due to her influence, and she has a ton of dirt on the Strike Team. She’s not nearly as wrapped up in Shane as he is in her, so whenever she gets tired of all the secrets and bullshit and horror, she can trot off to the authorities and tell them what she knows. If Vic and Shane really wanted to cover their asses, they should have killed her off way back when.

I’m not sure she’s really forgiving Shane for the affair though. She just learned some pretty huge stuff in the middle of Shane’s emotional breakdown, and I think she’s in shock and needs time to figure out how to handle things from here.

It would have been better for everyone if Shane had died from the beatdown. It would have eliminated the future meltdown when Vic finds out Shane killled Lem, Vic would get retired in a month and it would all just go away. If the crime remained unsolved, and it might have, it probably would be judged that he died in the line of duty. Mara would have received his death benefits, taking care of herself and her kids. She has a real estate license; she can get along okay on her own.
