The Shield: Season 4: Episode 3

Season 4:

Episode 1

Episode 2

Good episode so far. Looks like Vic and Shane are definitely on paths to collide now.

Wagenbach is going to have to separate himself from Claudette if he hopes to get back on the real cases. Can’t believe his “jihad” comment. He is really on a roll now, leaking out details of a crime to a possible suspect.

I can’t wait to see how the trio of Lem, Ronnie and Vic works out. Lem obviously wants out, and I can see that he would be willing to do anything to put the Money Train fiasco behind him, including taking out Shane.

Dutch is so screwed when Claudette finds out what he did. Jeez, what a dumb ass. He is going to have to find himself a new partner once she finds out. No way in hell she’ll forgive him.

I’m glad the captain didn’t cop out and give house back in the end. Shows she can put her money where her mouth is and keeps the show hardcore.

I said it in the previous two threads and I’ll say it again, I can’t wait for the Vic/Shane showdown. I hope Vic ends up taking him down. And pregnancy and birth really did not agree with Shane’s wife.

Glenn Close is evil. No doubt about it. I am firmly convinced that she is a robot, a Terminator, and that the season will end with Vic Mackey beating the Glenninator to death with his bare hands. And he’ll do it, too, ‘cuz he’s Vic fuckin’ Mackey.

Shane is set to become Vic’s arch-nemesis. Season 5 will be war between Mackey and Vendrell. Ooh. Blood. Passionate, vengeful blood. I shiver.

Dutch is on the right track, MAYBE. He’s getting involved in department politics. He might have a knack for this sort of thing. He might turn out pretty clever and conniving. When Claudette tried politicking, she got burned. Mayhap Dutch the boob, the bungler, might have success? It’ll be interesting to see.

The gang stuff isn’t catching me yet. It’s just smacking of more Shield gangwar material. Maybe it just needs a little more setup, or maybe it’s just me.

No Aceveda in this episode. He’s headed for bad things. Oh, VERY bad things. Cripes. He’s headed towards “raping and murdering children” sick-ass-fuck territory, in my opinion. Really messed up in the head.

They’re still setting Danny up for detective. Julian… they’re still having good moments with him, but there’s no real overarching purpose for him yet. I’m sure it’ll come.

I like her a lot more now, definitely. The first two episodes I wasn’t impressed. I don’t think it’ll come down to her against Vic, though. She seems willing to let Vic loose to get results, even if it’s not good PR. Plus she looks cool in sunglasses, the perfect disguise to play “bad cop”. I swear I thought Aceveda was going to get involved in the house seizure, maybe he still will.

I don’t think it’s going to be Vic vs. Shane… it’s going to be Vic vs. Mara. That is one manipulating woman. She’s the one that broke up the strike team, whispering in Shane’s ear.

Either way, this season looks like it’ll play out great.

What’s kind of weird to me is that the writers seem to have completely forgotten, or have expected the audience to completely forget, that Vic killed that cop in the first episode of the show. They seem to be moving more and more towards Vic being a rough and tumble, doesn’t follow the rule book but gets it done kind of guy. When in fact I think he started out as more of a psychopath. I wonder if they are going to show any consequences from the murder that Vic committed on the very first show, or whether they’ve just kind of abandoned that storyline.

Agree with the comments that Close is really good so far.

I believe this is exactly why they are having Shane and Vic fight with each other. Shane knows everything, including the fact that Vic murdered a fellow officer. If Shane were to ever let that information out of the bag, no one would take Vic’s side. I think this will definitely come up as things get more heated between the two.

So does Shane take up Vic’s offer? I thought for sure he would refuse, but the very last thing he said leaves it very much in the air.

This show’s so good - the characters so complex. Agree about how it seems that Vic is being made into a more sympathetic character, but having not seen the first season I never got the full-on asshole Vic (though, he is still an asshole, even in the latest episodes, to Dutch and some others).

But the Shane thing too - I mean, Shane came off as totally out-of-control the first two-and-three-quarters episodes, and then in the last scene you see he’s got his own issues at home to deal with - he’s the one taking care of the baby and Mara.

Also glad that the new captain (forget her show name) refused to give the house back - only because I really wanted her to. But that’s the kind of Hollywood ending you’d expect, and on retrospect glad they didn’t go that route.

And I’ll bet dollars to donuts she has a major skeleton somewhere (not just the potential infertility/never-had-kids-for-whatever-reason one. Or hell, maybe she had a kid who died or something.)

Shane and Vic are totally tied up together - I see no way out of this one. Great storyline, with them having to keep an eye on Shane in case he’s caught by IAD.

Anyway - I say Shane joins, Lem has real tough time with it and starts wigging out again, the Captain ends up not liking Shane and/or finding out something about Shane, Vic having to run interference, and Mara turning psycho.

God I love this show.

by the way (too lazy to look it up) - whatever happened to the money train cash? What was left over after Lem burned some of it?

I agree fully about the characters. Take Aceveda as an example, sure it’s the best example, but take it anyway. He starts out looking like he is going to be the clean up man for “The Farm” when he is first made chief. That quickly turns, as we find out he cares more about his popularity and climbing the political ladder. He hates Vic, but knows he needs Vic to get things done at times. He is in almost constant conflict with himself.

He is accused at one point of raping a minor, but gets out of the charges. Doesn’t seem to be his thing at the time, so we write it off as a set-up by the young accuser.

Then, he is sexually abused at gun point, becomes enraged and addicted to taking revenge on his abuser.

Finally, we see this season that he has obvious marital problems, and is definitely into rape fantasies. He actually gets off watching a victim getting raped on tape, and takes the tape with him when he leaves the farm.

That is some character!

Great episode.

Loved the look of jealousy on Claudette’s face. She knows she wouldn’t have been able to think outside the box like the Captain, or get everybody excited like she did. Prepare for cock-blockery!

I haven’t seen Glenn Close this hard since Dangerous Liasons.

Dutch: I can control her
ROFL.
Dutch can’t afford to lose Claudette. She’s pretty much the only person who appreciates him, because he has alienated everyone else.

That lawyer is shady. You’re doing it on contingency, YOU put up the money! Earn your 40% cut.

I think there are too many loose ends from the past, and they have no intention of clearing them up. Why wouldn’t there still be heat about the money train? Where are they going with the cat-strangling incident with Dutch? We going to see Tevon again?

Also does anyone know if there is a name for the way Vic holds his gun?
