The Shield: Season 4: Episode 9 (Unboxed Spoilers)

Here we go again. I can’t wait for tonight’s episode after being “shieldless” for a week.

Here’s a link to our episode 7 and 8 discussions. The episode 7 thread contains links to all of the other episodes from this season.

Ep. 7

Ep. 8

A shout out to Dooku once again for his accurate predictions so far this season.

Question: If you were Vic Mackey, how would you proceed at this point in reference to the following situations:

  1. Shane
  2. Money Train cash handed over to ex-wifey for kid’s treatment.
  3. Danni

I think #2 can only come back to bite Vic in the ass, especially now that Dutch Boy will be sniffing around his house where the money has been cleverly hidden in a damn cupboard.

I can just picture Dutch coming over to cook dinner for the ex, when he stumbles onto the mysterious bag and opens it to reveal the cash.

I will once again assert that this is, by far, the best show on televsion. Can I get an amen from the congregation?

Good episode once again.

Looks like Vic is going right back to his old ways. Shane looks to be in the clear, and Aceveda was actually nice to Captain Rawlings. All of this perfect set-up makes me think something big is going to go down next week.

I am a little tired of how convenient it is that Vic’s ex. is always working at the hospital when one of the officers goes into see someone. She also seems to be the only one at the desk when someone comes in. Not a big deal, just a minor irritation.

Any plot twist predictions for next week?

Did anyone else catch Shane’s reaction when he saw the vase of red and white roses at Corrinne’s workstation in the hospital? Maybe Dutch included a little card with the flowers, and Shane will tell Vic about it later.

I’m not totally convinced Vic is going to backslide into his old ways and deal with Antwon. Next week’s interrogation will reveal a lot, if they actually pick up where this episode leaves off. I think Vic can accept Shane as a younger brother or even a son-figure who exhibited poor judgment, but he realizes Antwon is way too much of a threat to all of them to keep alive.

Also, was I the only one worried for Danni when Monica partnered Aceveda up with her?

That wasn’t my take on it. I saw it as a ploy to string along Antwon until they got the body back.

To me, the first indication was not his conversation with Antwon, but rather the fact that he gave his ex. some of the Money Train cash in the previous episode.

That cash is a major problem, IMO, and I think he is going to start back to some of his old habits to cover up the fact that he used that money. Remember, we don’t know for sure, but I doubt he told the other guys that he used that money.

He is also pissed about being given the back seat in heading up the Strike Team. Vic is a power freak, obviously, so I feel that he will try to get a sort of revenge against Rawlings by heading to the dark side once again.

Was anyone else totally suspicious when Aceveda showed up in his Cop gear? My first reaction was the he was somehow involved in the cops getting killed.

I still think Army’s going down. My guess is that Antwon is going to name him in his interview, to show Vic that he has the power to bust him. I think they’ll find the girl’s body, after winding us up for 90 minutes while they frantically search.

And I completely missed Shane noticing the flowers. That’s just the sort of detail that they would use to expand upon later - good catch.

That was my take too - wow what an interesting thought if it is wrong though.

  1. No, I don’t think Vic is going back to his old ways - it’s just that he’s got a lot of shit to cover up, and so the path back may take some meandering routes. I side with the “it’s setting Antwone up” group.

  2. Ok, never again will I try to deduce the storyline from the previews. I was sure that, based on the preview from two weeks ago, the shot where the cops (including Vic) find Aceveda in cop gear was at the house where Aceveda was raped, and that he (Aceveda) had gone completely off the deep end. Not that that scene wasn’t powerful, but if the preview creators were trying to fool people, they got me.

  3. Aceveda is going off the deep end, anyway. What’s his story? Why is he in gear now? Sure, he may be missing his old beat, but he’s risen above it (in station if not in morality). Confused on this one.

  4. Shane’s one lucky mofo. The scene with him, Vic and Antwone must’ve been a bit of a shock to Antwone - Shane is so obviously inferior to Vic in handling things, Antwone is now probably gonna want to pay back Shane solely because he (Antwone) actually believed Shane was capable of helping him. Shane’s a puppy dog to Vic’s pit bull.

  5. Money train - writers are saving that up for one doozy of an episode.

  6. I’m agreeing with most everyone that the Julian storyline is doing nothing for me.

  7. Liking the captain more and more and she has to really start making decisions in those grey areas.

8, and final. Who the hell else is TOTALLY STOKED about next week’s 90 minute episode!?!?!? Can’t freakin’ wait!!

90 minutes of The Shield for me is like free crack for an addict.

Do her whenever and wherever possible.

Hell, yeah!

Rewatched Boogie Nights last night on HBO’s “On Demand” movies and was blown away that the Julian actor was in it in a small role. Had to wait for the credits to verify it, but there it was.
[/off topic]

Who was he in Boogie Nights? I’ve seen that movie like 20 times but I can’t recall him.

There’s a 90-minute episode next week? Our TiVo always cuts off the previews for the next episode, so we didn’t know. I agree with RancidYakButterTeaParty, it’s bonus crack!
