Let me say that things didn’t turn out quite as I expected, but this was still a great end to a great season. Of course, I can’t say it was any better than any other ep (with the exception of the somewhat dissapointing “Day One” ep) because this show is almost never anything less than great.
I didn’t see Danny’s firing coming, though in retrospect it makes sense. They needed to let people go and she’s been a magnet for trouble ever since she shot that Arab guy. Armadillo getting stabbed on her watch was just the final straw. I get the feeling we haven’t seen the last of her. She’s gonna try to get back at Vic somehow for costing her the job. I think she’s probably gonna try to bring Vic and the strike team down in an attempt to get her job back and it’ll probably get her killed or in jail, but that’s for us to find out next season.
What happened to Julien was just straight out f’ed up, but I saw it coming. When those two homophobe cops saw him talking to Aceveda and then wound up fired, well, Danny didn’t do him any favors by ratting those guys out, that’s for damn sure.
I’m surprised the raid on the money train went as well as it did all things considered. I was certain that Armadillo had tipped off the Armenians to get back at Vic and that things would blow up in their face and at least one of the team would wind up dead, but despite some unforseen glitches it went off really well for them. Seeing the dead look in Mackey’s eyes standing in front of all that money though, you get the feeling it wasn’t worth it. All the money in the world (And damn, that pile laid out on that table looked like all the money in the world!) can’t make up for what he’s lost.
And now Aceveda’s on his way to the City Council while Claudette moves up to Captain. Two major developments that should have a huge impact on the show’s dynamic.
His family. Also, in the course of all this - and by “all this” I mean everything from both seasons that’s lead up to the money train heist, the logical end of it all, the big payoff that means he doesn’t need to be dirty any more - his soul.
That’s what I mean by “what Mackey lost”.
He’s always been portrayed as a man haunted by his own demons, doing what he thinks needs to be done, but always regetful and remorseful however empty his regret and remorse might be.
I still say the writers completely overshot their load by opening The Shield with Vic killing a cop. No matter how much I want to root for him, I just can’t…I want him and Shane to go down.
The thing that really got to me, Fibber, wasn’t so much the look on Vic’s face when he saw the money… it was the look on ALL their faces. They ALL were thinking the same thing, and I think it was, “We might have gone too far this time.”
I’m starting to get the theory that Dutch is going to feature more prominently next season… he’s the epitome of the “straight shooter that gets the job done” character, and I’m betting that he and Vic are going to wind up needing each other.
Claudette isn’t going to be the Captain just yet- Aceveda won the election, so he gets to keep his job for the duration.
SPOOFE[sub]bD[/sub], I think you’re probably right, I think the guys finally realized that the Armenians aren’t just going to let that much money go missing. 'Course, there was that one guy that came in and shot those other guys, so the Team has that going for them, distraction-wise.
I was wondering if maybe they didn’t jump the shark, now that they’ve got, essentially, enough cash to just walk away. So what if they get fired, they’ve got cash- go to Mexico and call it good, etc. I’m quite interested in seeing what the hook is to keep them around.
Can someone spoil last week’s episode for me? It’s the only one this season I missed. The only thing I know for sure was that Julien’s gay lover “outed” him in front of everyone (only b/c I saw it in the previews).
