The Simple Things

Hint: Mil spec flight gloves; nomex and leather. very comfortable!

Welcome aboard, I.M.! Good thread.

There are so many good ones here, it’s hard to add to them!

The smell of damp earth just before a thunderstorm
Thunderstorms.
The smell of fresh cut grass, especially that first cut of the season!
Cuddling my wife.
Chatting with that one very special person
The feel of my motorcycle beneath me in a long power sweeper!
The sound of my MG when the carbs are perfectly synchronized.
Watching my daughter play ball with her dog on the front lawn.
My yard at twilight after being freshly cut and edged.
Sitting in the evening on our front bench, bonding with my wife.
Picking a bouquet of wild flowers for her in the Spring.
A good thick porterhouse right off the grill, chased with a cold Samuel Adams.
Fireflies. They have the ability to bring out the child in you.
The feel of a haircut, especially that shivery good feeling when they shave the back of my neck. It’s doubly good because the only barber I let cut my hair is a good friend.
Watching the Canada geese fly slowly by my second floor window at work.
Singing in the choir, when I hit that one note just perfect.
Driving.
Reading a good book.

And so many more…

Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

Having so many posters who, it appears to me, are well respected around here respond to my little thread.

Getting a message that the boards are temporarily down for routine maintenance, only to have everything appear to be intact and working fine the next time you check!

Bubbles…

Having a small child catch your eye in a restaurant and smile at you as if you share a secret…

Standing at an airport gate, waiting for someone you love to come off the plane, and catching sight of them as they come up the jetway.

Stargazing some place where there is no light pollution and it’s so dark that you can see billions of stars, and then spotting a satellite as it moves across the sky.

Being so into a concert, play, movie, etc., and realizing that it’s about to end, but wanting it to go on forever.

Watching a baseball game with a warm breeze blowing across you.

Having a loving family and wonderful friends.

Playing hooky on a crisp autumn day.

Making homemade ice cream.

Eating my mom’s chicken-fried steak.

Watching a small child get really excited about something they’ve never done before.

So many, many great ones here. I did think of a few more to add:

getting a hug from my daughter or son, for no reason at all

the laughter of a child

finishing each other’s sentences, often at the same time

the anticipation of seeing a loved one again after a long absence

an unexpected phone call late at night, just to say ‘I love you and I’m thinking about you’

picnicing by the lake on a clear, perfect day

chicken barbequeing on the grill, the smell of bbq sauce, meat, and wood in the air

the rush of adrenaline while whitewater canoeing down a river, spray in your face, sun glinting off the water drops in the air

Sigh I miss you so…

That’s my name, not a description. I am neither purple nor a bear. Okay, so I’m purple.<a true Wally original!>

Just being with friends, shotting the shit, playing board games, drinking iced tea, and thinking to yourself " I’ve known these guys for over a decade…"

Hugs, kisses, and general cuddling.

The first kiss with someone.

Morning sex.

Driving down the highway, windows down, CD blaring, and singing along like an idiot.

Preach on, brother! A nice, relaxing shit is a thing of beauty.

A really good meal that you know is bad for you.

Dancing, when you just feel the beat, and nothing else and no one else matters, or even exists.

Slow dancing.

The beach.

A good belly laugh.

Beating the living shit out of my close friends at a game.

Watching a really bad, cheesy movie, and making fun of it.

Getting to know someone.

Stretching.

Afternoon sex.

Goofy dogs.

Hearing or reading something funny when you don’t expect it.

Long, slow kisses that last for hours.

An unexpected compliment.

Getting a good buzz on.

Work out fatigue (I need to get reaquanted with this particular pleasure. ;)).

Having a friend and a lover.

Damn. No wonder I’ve been in such a good mood lately!

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

<<<<<I am so sorry, I forgot to add: Welcome to the newbie with the excellent taste in thread topics. You ROCK!>>>>>>>
'cause purplebear put it best, I just copied hers!

Watching the flames flicker in the fireplace.

Teaching my sons to roast marshmallows, laughing when someone’s falls into the fire.

When my oldest son comes home from college, the sound of his footsteps on the stairs. I miss him terribly.

Thinking the ringing phone is a telemarketer, and it’s my son’s voice, heavenly.

When I’m lying in the bathtub, surrounded by warm bubbles, and I can smell the rose candles near my head.

Billy’s laughing.

Getting every light green when I go somewhere.

The sound of the wind rustling the leaves of the trees behind my house.

The more distant sound at night of a train whistle.

When I’m working in the yard, and a sudden breeze blows, cooling my face.

Coming back late at night, and Billy has turned on the outside lights, and runs down the basement stairs to say, ‘hi mom’.

ohhhh, I need a hug.

“Muck should replace ‘suck’. For ‘muck’ is yucky, while ‘suck’ feels very lucky. So, don’t stay stuck on suck, switch to MUCK, today.”

On the topic of the bowel movements: The overwhelming joy on a little kid’s face when they use the potty for the first time. And then, having your kid clap for you when you go potty.

Chewing on your toes. My six-month-old son does this, and man, does he ever look happy!

I made my husband join a bridge club. He jumps next Tuesday.

Great topic.
Most all the above, plus;
When my grandkids see me coming and come running, hopping, and skipping because they’re really glad to see me.
A chili cheese dog, when I’m in the mood for one.
Sitting on a picnic table in the park on a warm evening, while sharing a joint with really good friends and philosophizing about how good life is. And giggling at ourselves.
Making love in the sunshine.
Peace,

Teach your kids to bungee jump.
One them might have to cross a bridge someday.

The smell of fresh cut hay.
The sight of Grandma’s house
The sight of Grandma and Gramps too
The sight of home after a trip

That first real kiss, with your first real love, when a mutual need pulls you together and the world goes away.
Ahhh, youth.
Peace,
mangeorge

The way my baby son smells after a bath.

My husband’s dark curls that go “boing” and snap back like a slinky when stretched.

Seeing my dog’s limbs move and hear her woofing in her sleep, wondering what she’s dreaming.

Waking up at 5 am, realizing it’s Saturday and I can go back to sleep.

Hearing my son giggle for the first time.

Getting my first paycheck at the new job.
