The Simpsons: Tapped Out

I am playing the Family Guy as well, and yeah, the game is really different from the Simpsons. For one thing, there isn’t as much stuff (buildings, decos, etc) to spend money on, so after a while you run into an issue of having tons of cash and nothing to spend it on. I am saving for the Stewie dictator statue, then the Lincoln memorial, then I won’t have anything to buy until I open up the last area except land. Which I have plenty of already.

While the tasks to earn costumes and unlock characters in FG is interesting, I’m starting to like the Simpsons more, just because it feels like there is still so much more stuff to get. I’m 41 and I have a ton of stuff yet to build in Krustyland and the docks, not to mention all the buildings not required for quests or characters that I’ve not gotten yet.

Sure, all these games want you to spend money, but Family Guy is such a blatant cash grab it’s insulting. The character unlocks can take forever (and it’s especially bad when there’s a timer involved due to an event) and TinyCo’s “solution” is for you to spend real money to buy buildings that have a better drop rate but will then be useless afterwards because they practically never reuse anything. This Christmas event is the first one that really uses some of the buyable or unlockable characters from previous events and I still have the majority of the characters in storage because they don’t do anything and decrease the stability of the game.

Right now, they have a game mechanic of “defeat the Yeti”. You have two characters (three if you’re willing to spend 200 clams–approximately $7–on an otherwise pointless Die Hard reference) that can do damage to this thing every four hours. The idea is that with each iteration it gets harder to defeat because the reward is increased. I’ve got no problem with that, except they also put the thing on a 24 hour timer complete with a 4 hour cooldown period between either defeating it or the timer running out. To top that off, the two free characters can only do between 2 and 4 points of damage between them. Spending $7 on John McClane gets that up to between 4 and 7 points. Anyway, the third-level Yeti, for instance, has 18 HP. So if you’ve managed to unlock both free characters, you’re looking at a best-case scenario of just barely being able to pull it off before the timer ends, assuming you can run the 4-hour task 5 times in 24 hours and get 4 points of damage each time. Spending money makes it somewhat less of a grindfest, but you’re still looking at a minimum of 12 hours and if everything goes against you the timer could still run out.

I’ve had that happen on a couple of earlier tasks. Usually logging out/logging back in clears it. But by now you’ve probably figured that out.

Looks like the Kwik E Mart isn’t paying out money and XP now. The scratch tickets are still there but not the normal payout.

You mean logging out of Origin and then back in? No, I haven’t - in fact, I wasn’t aware that there was a way for me to do it “manually” (as opposed to waiting for the game to log itself out). I have shut my tablet down and then powered it back up, but that had no effect.

Pawn Stars has a Facebook game and app that has this same sort of issue. Buy and sell stuff and you accrue $$. But eventually you have a pile of money and nothing really compelling to spend it on. The store improvements you’d actually want or that make a real difference are purchased with “candies”, which basically are the same as Simpsons doughnuts.

New level just dropped. I have three or so words for you: Krustyburger oil rig.

Is that the one that cost 8 million $$? Because fuck that.

I logged out of Origin and then logged back in, but that didn’t fix the problem.

I did get a strange message when I logged back in; the game claimed that I had been playing on “another device” (I do have TSTO installed on an iPad that I had turned on for some app testing, but I didn’t actually play the game on it).

That happens almost every time I log back in. I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you.

No new land???

Make do with what you have!

That said, I’ve had to become much more choosy about which buildings get parking lots, and I’ve basically got no good spot for all the stupid parade floats and balloons.

There’s a glitch where every time you enter springfield, your writers’ studio pays out. It’s a decent payout anyway, then with bonuses… Made a lot of money today when I was doing other things and idly hitting friends, then home, tap building, friends, home, etc.

I’m debating the oil rig. It’s so ridiculous I can’t NOT have it, but I was saving up for the chocolate thing. I’m not sure how much I’m going to push the level, as I’d rather have Lisa earn presents than free Janey. I’m doing really well on present-gathering, but I’ve heard you get the level-up donuts box when you collect 2000 presents after the nativity scene. I like free donuts.

Hey, that complaint belongs in the (long-dead) Family Guy thread.

I guess there’s nothing wrong with Janey, but she’s definitely a tertiary character.

And Nelson’s mother isn’t? What “secondary” characters are left?

I’m glad we got Janey. She’s our only non-premium girl besides Lisa, plus she’s another non-yellow character.

I did get the Krusty Barge. It’s RIDICULOUS. I love it for its ridiculousness. It gave tons of xp upon placement.

Gotta say that when I saw yesterday’s award was “Christmas Sanjay house” I was confused, but when I earned it and turned them on I giggled.

Woo-Hoo! I have achieved maximum friend level!

How many presents do you need for the final prize? I have a little over 9600 presents now, so I think I am on track to get it. i’ve been getting the bonus presents from the elf tunnels too. I am on leave from work because of my back surgery, or I never would have been able to keep up with it.

What exactly does the nuke button do? I am thinking it “resets” your Springfield and puts all of your items in storage so that you can re-arrange the whole town, right? It doesn’t permanently delete everything, does it?
The reason I ask is, once I have all the land expansions I’m probably going to want to re-arrange everything so it looks nicer. Right now I am still kind of strapped for space and am jamming buildings in wherever they’ll fit.

Nuke button does not delete anything. As you suspect, it puts everything in storage (except Simpsons house, I believe).

The current final prize (the one that ends on Christmas Eve) takes 14,000 presents.
