As a Chicago native, I should have a strong opinion on hot dogs, but I don’t. I grew up on boiled Oscar Mayers, so I guess I’m easy to please.
Usually I’ll add a smear of ketchup and a smear of mustard - not too much of either - and I’m fine. The “classic” Chicago dog just has way too much crap on it.
My very favorite hot dog ever was the half-pound Best’s Kosher dog they used to sell in the right-field concourse at Comiskey Park, covered in caramelized onions.
I have the Bernina I learned to sew on. My mother gave it to me when she upgraded to their fancy pants quilting machine. My quilts are not fancy pants, so it works fine for me. They really do last forever.
Nellie. When I had the fake nails I still had them rather short so no learning curve. It was a pain to have to go weekly or maybe it was every other week for maintenance and it was expensive. Like **FCM ** I don’t bother with all that foolishness anymore though I probably should. I haven’t had my hair done since February and it really needs coloring. Now would be a good time to go natural I guess. I will eventually seek out a new hairdresser or make a trip to the Keys to my old one.
I and my dog couldn’t stand it any longer so I drug, literally, a ten foot ladder into the house from the garage and took the detector down and all the way outside. My son came in and got mad at me for doing that and he replaced the battery and took the ladder back out.
I took ibuprofen and made my chicken rice soup and feel better now.
Tomato worms devastated my squash and zucchini again so I have given in and sent the kids to Lowes for some Sevin dust spray and ordered more seeds. I tried real hard to do it the organic way but if I’m to have any veggies I will have to resort to pesticides.
Cheeseburgers and fries on tap for tonight with the kids cooking.
I grew up with hot dogs either roasted over a campfire or cut up in baked beans. If I eat them these days, they tend to be a Nathan’s or Hebrew National , grilled, on a toasted bun with mustard and sweet relish. Either that or a corn dog. I never have been a ketchup person for anything.
Last evening, a package from da Jungle was delivered. It was small enough for a padded envelope, but not flat. When I picked it up, it had not been sealed and was empty. I went through the return process and chose to drop it off at the service desk at Kohl’s. I chose to have the funds credited to my account. Now, I nees to order the item again.
I had coffee with the freethinkers and visited before dropping it off, then stopped by UGO to pick up this month’s meat. TBH, I shouldn’t have to buy meat for a couple of months, given what was already in the freezer. Came home and slothed until time to put the rice on for supper (red beans and rice). I’s stuffeded! After KP, more sloth shall ensue.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated had a huge First Sunday brunch, got back to da cave, achieved nappage, got woke up by a big thunderboom, then day drank out on the back porch while watchin’ a tstorm. All in all a good day. Any need to feed will be via forage. I had some crackers and diet Coke a little while ago. I can’t explain exactly why, but I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for a hotdawg. Oh, and the biiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.
We wound up DoorDashing iHop for dinner. I wanted an omelet, didn’t feel like making it myself. DH went with French toast. My order turned out to be at least 2 reasonably-sized meals’ worth. NBD, both the omelet and the hash browns will reheat fine. Didn’t make sense to try to stuff down more, when I should be more careful about portion sizes anyway (need to lower the calorie intake a bit, there’s more of me than there ought to be). DH did eat all of his order except the scrambled eggs. They’ll get consumed in the next few days, either by me or by Buddy (pretty sure Allie isn’t interested).
Would have been nice if the DoorDash interface had given an option to request sugar-free syrup for DH’s French toast, but we had that on hand. Biggest grumble was that iHop does not offer biscuits as a side dish. Wound up digging a bag of Grands out of the freezer, which are now in the oven.
Hippy that’s a nice machine. I have my mother’s cast iron Singer from the 40s. She was a good seamstress but didn’t have the patience to teach me.
I use Trader Joe’s organic no sugar added ketchup on my dogs. Tonight’s dinner was very hot dog retro. Oscar Mayer all beef sliced down the middle. Velveeta in the slit, then wrapped in a Pillsbury crescent roll and cooked until the roll is brown and the cheese is ooey gooey.
For a while now, I’ve been after my property manager to fix some of the concrete around my house: the front top step is seriously sloped and there’s an unusually big step up into the house (I think the steps have sunk since they were first poured), and the back steps have started to crumble while the small patio — broken up since I moved in 8 years ago — is downright unusable these days. His brother, who does a lot of the work in their properties, finally came out a month ago to look at everything. I haven’t heard a peep since then…until 3:30pm today, when I got a text from the brother saying that work in both the front and back will start at 7am tomorrow (!). Not a lot of warning, especially when both entrances are going to be tied up at the same time and I have a dog who needs to go out several times a day.
He says they will put a ramp out front for me to use, but I bet it will be a piece of bouncy plywood and the dog will be afraid of it. *sigh* It’ll be challenging enough taking her out front vs the back yard to do her “business.” Oh, and he doesn’t know how long the work will take, because he doesn’t even know yet when the concrete is going to arrive (and it’s supposed to rain Tuesday and Wednesday, which would further delay things). Don’t get me wrong, I’m super glad that they’re making the repairs…but more of a heads up would have been appreciated!
I briefly considered kenneling Bailey — dropping her off this evening and picking her up on Thursday evening or Friday — but she just spent nearly a week there and (selfishly) I really don’t want to be here without her. And, who knows when the work will actually be done. So, I figure that the two of us will just figure it out.
At least I’ll be home all day tomorrow, when hopefully most of the jackhammering/removal will happen (?). And, I’ll be able to talk to the crew if whatever they rig up for a ramp doesn’t work well enough.
The worse knee, the one with screws in it, is being grumpy. It doesn’t hurt, it just isn’t behaving. Very strange feeling, it kinda is saying get weight off me as soon as possible.
Nappage turned into several hours of sleepage and I didn’t get up until after 5pm, went to the gym for a brief workout and then returned home and fixed a couple of sammiches, so all is well. Mowage will have to wait until mid-week, the lawn doesn’t look too bad compared to a couple others, so I’ll get it done during the week. Soccer resumes tomorrow, so that and the fitness place will keep me entertained.
Butters, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Oopsie, hope the repairs go fast.
VanGo, knee problems are the worst; hope it gets better soon.
OK, that’s all for now. take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
